Stomatitis stinks, but you can better the lives of cats with this painful oral disease when you make a gift to Tenth Life.

Gemini was recently diagnosed with stomatitis. Her gums were red and sore, and it became really hard for her to eat. While the exact cause is unknown, cats like Gemini can get stomatitis when their little bodies overreact to the normal bacteria in their mouths. Sometimes viruses or other dental problems play a part, too.

The good news is that with the right care, there's hope! Treatment usually includes antibiotics and/or anti-inflammatory drugs, and sometimes removing some or all of their teeth. In Gemini's case, she underwent a partial tooth extraction just last week. We're happy to report that she's recovering well, back to eating regularly, and enjoying cuddles with her foster mom and the kitties she shares a home with.

While there isn’t always a complete cure, cats with stomatitis can still have the best lives with the right treatment. Without our supporters like you, though, we simply wouldn't be able to provide such necessary veterinary care. Gemini's recent dental care - an emergency visit, x-rays, surgery costs, and medications - cost nearly $1,700.

There is hope for Gemini's future - a future free of pain and suffering that stomatitis causes - because people like you care about cats like her. Your support makes helping cats like Gemini possible. We can't do it without you.

Donate today for cats in need like Gemini. ❤️

Maggots.

That is one scary word that anyone working in animal rescue dreads, but we had to face our fears last weekend when baby Miso's foster mom called.

Month-old Miso and her three siblings (all here on their foster mom's lap) were just transferred to Tenth Life from another shelter that very day. Their foster mom was giving them baths, gently washing caked f***s away, and quickly noticed that little Miso had an open wound on her tiny butt.

Even worse, maggots had made their way out of that open wound.

Just hours before, she was at risk of unnecessary euthanasia. Now, she's being rushed to the emergency room.

Things could have been far worse for this little kitten. Her wound was cleaned well (and thankfully, no more maggots have appeared!) The ER vet felt that she was too small to repair the wound with a skin graft that day, but was optimistic that her tiny body could heal with antibiotics.

Miso is safe. Miso is maggot-free. Miso has the opportunity to continue healing and grow into a happy, healthy cat.

There are countless others like Miso. Countless others who need a chance at a better life. When you make a gift to Tenth Life, you're giving them that chance, and we are so, so grateful.

donations are still being matched! Donate now and save kittens like Miso.

Thanks to your support, Tenth Life’s adoption lounge exists! As a small, foster-based rescue, our cozy space in South City serves as our headquarters and a safe haven for cats in need. Without our community, we simply could not cover its operational costs. From rent and utilities to enough litter to keep 20+ litter boxes fresh and clean, your donations make it all possible.

Hundreds of cats come through our lounge each year. Many stay at the lounge throughout their entire journey with us. Having a dedicated space allows us to save more lives than foster homes alone can accommodate. Our lounge is essential to our mission, but we could not keep it running without your continued support!

Today is . Your gift ensures we can maintain our lounge and provide care, comfort, and love to all of the cats who call Tenth Life home.

Right before Thanksgiving, our director and a dedicated volunteer packed up a car full of carriers and headed down to the "bootheel" of Missouri. Why? Well, yes, they were tempted by the rolls and dumplings at the famous Lamberts, but more importantly, there were cats in need at a local animal control.

This year, Tenth Life was honored to receive a grant from Best Friends Animal Society. The funds were earmarked to partner with specific animal controls in Missouri to help reduce unnecessary euthanasia. We were thrilled for the opportunity, and are proud to share that the project has been completed, and the grant helped us reach our goal of saving 35 more cats than we likely would have been able to without it.

Back to the trip down south. At the time, we had only two temporary kennels and a single foster home available. Our capacity was limited, but we were eager to help however we could. We were able to bring home two adult cats, both healthy and just recovering from flea infestations, and an adorable mama cat with her three kittens.

Without further ado, meet Mama Hollyberry, Latke, Sugarplum, and Candy Cane! This picture was snapped right when we met them, but check the comments for a new one of the kittens settling in at their foster home.

Their lives were saved thanks to this grant, but we are eager to continue the partnerships we formed going into 2026. To do so, we rely on the generosity of our community!

Today is , and every dollar raised goes toward our Hope for the Holidays fundraiser, which allows us to continue this work, giving cats who are so often sick, injured, and in desperate situations the lives they deserve year after year. Cats like Hollyberry and her holiday kittens are counting on you.

Will you join us and make a gift today?

It's , and when you make a gift to Tenth Life, you are showing the world that cats like Loyola deserve love like this.

Loyola’s story with Tenth Life goes way back. We first met her just a day or two after she was born. She and her littermates came to us from a local shelter that could not provide care for newborn kittens. With round-the-clock attention in a Tenth Life foster home, Loyola grew into a strong, healthy little kitten and was quickly adopted by a loving family.

Fast forward to this October. Now two years old, Loyola ended up at another shelter after her family could no longer keep her due to circumstances out of their control. We picked her up right away. She was shaken, unsure, and it took over a week before she even wanted pets or attention. She had been through a lot in a short time and just needed reassurance.

Cats adopted from Tenth Life always have a home here. We were able to connect with her previous family and could tell how much they'd cared for her. We promised that Loyola would find another loving home.

We are very happy to share that even before her adoption profile was completed, Loyola’s new family met her at our adoption lounge. She was hesitant to leave her integration kennel, but they could already see her sweet, gentle personality shining through.

This , every gift goes directly toward providing care, comfort, and unconditional love to cats like Loyola.

Today is Giving Tuesday, and we have a special story to share. Carl's story.

It is not unusual for cats to seek refuge in the gated backyard at our adoption lounge. Our back porch is stocked with fresh food, water, shelters, and a constant stream of staff and volunteers ready to provide care and attention. When friendly strays make our yard their haven, we check them for a microchip, try to find their families, and if no one claims them, we welcome them to Tenth Life and provide all the veterinary care they need before adoption.

Sometimes, though, the cats who come to the backyard are feral and do not want anything to do with us. That is okay. We trap them, get them spayed or neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas and other parasites, and return them, hoping they will keep stopping by for meals and a warm, safe place to rest.

This past January, Carl started coming around. A neighbor and Tenth Life foster family had been feeding him, and somehow our backyard and porch became his territory. When we trapped him to be vetted, he was terrified of humans and did not want to interact. We thought he was feral. He was surviving well outdoors and generally healthy, though he had some digestive issues we were helping him manage, so back to the yard Carl went.

Carl had other ideas. Over the months, his world slowly opened up. He began approaching people and eventually discovered the joy of pets and attention. A tiny touch to the head became head butts and full-on leaning in for pets all the way down to his tail. Watching him trust humans and seek affection gave us so much hope.

Could Carl be happy indoors?

A couple of weeks ago, we brought him inside, and it was clear he was ready. He is thriving as an indoor cat. And, we're especially happy that he's not outside during this winter weather!

Carl's story wouldn't have been possible without supporters like you. This Giving Tuesday, please consider making a gift in Carl's honor. Every dollar goes toward saving lives like his! ❤️

Lil Bitty needed emergency veterinary care this weekend, and because of you, we didn't have to hesitate.

This tiny girl was born in a feral colony and eventually made her way to one of our partner animal control facilities. We support these partners to help reduce overwhelm during crisis moments and to prevent unnecessary euthanasia. Thanks to you, Lil Bitty is now safe, loved, and healing here at Tenth Life.

Until this weekend, her care had been pretty straightforward. She had been treated for several parasites, including coccidia, roundworm, and lungworm, and she was spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated on Wednesday. She was on the right path!

Then came a worrisome call. Her spay incision had rapidly become swollen, red, and hot to the touch. These telltale signs of infection meant she needed urgent care, so we sent her straight to the ER Saturday evening. Her incision was cleaned, and she was started on antibiotics and pain medication. She will see her regular vet tomorrow. While her incision still has a long way to go, Lil Bitty is already feeling much better.

Tomorrow is , and you can help us continue providing safety, healing, and hope to sick and injured cats by making a gift to our Hope for the Holidays fundraiser. Your generosity truly changes lives just like Lil Bitty’s, and we are so grateful to have you rooting for cats like her.
