There’s a lot to do as patients prepare for discharge. Prep ranges from getting instructions about follow-up care and appointments as well as arranging for continued recovery with home health care or outpatient therapy.

Discharging patients always trek over to staff areas to bid farewell to everyone who helped their recovery. Furry staff members are treated the same way. This patient, Natalie, couldn’t leave without one last visit with Duo Dog Kia. Kia’s presence helped ease Natalie’s pain and relieved her stress so she could focus on recovery.

March is Disabilities Awareness Month!

At Duo Dogs, we believe in the power of independence, confidence, and companionship. Our highly trained mobility, hearing, and PTSD Assistance Dogs provide life-changing support, empowering individuals to navigate the world with greater freedom. Duo Dog Red demonstrates turning the lights on if a client needs assistance with completing that task.

But our impact doesn’t stop there—some of our Facility Dogs bring comfort and motivation to therapeutic settings, helping patients achieve their therapy goals with a wagging tail and unwavering encouragement. Duo Dog Blaze at MU Health Care, and Duo Dog Kia at SSM Health Rehabilitation Hospital assist people of all ages during their daily therapy sessions.

Charlie Check-In. Last weekend Charlie graduated from Duo Puppy Class and started Basic obedience on Monday. We typically have a short break between sessions, but snow played a role in rescheduling classes. Charlie and his owners have improved their communication with one another and continue to build that special bond. Check out our stories to see what he's been working on!

“Did we just become best friends?” You would never have guessed that this was the first time Duo Dog Kia met this patient. Upon entering the treatment area, Kia hopped right onto the mat and immediately cuddled up next to him. Kia can be a great distraction to patients who may be completing difficult exercises while in therapy.
