🕯️ It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus… 🕯️
This shy 1-year-old dodged animal control for weeks like the Sanderson sisters were after him. 😱

Now safe at the shelter, he’s learning that not all humans are scary—some even give gentle pets (and we’ve got the sweet video to prove it 🥹).

Hocus Pocus needs a patient foster or adopter to help him believe in love, safety, and soft landings. No brooms required.

🚨 Mission Critical: Spock Needs a Foster or Forever Home by Sept 14! 🚨

Stardate: 172 days since intake.
That’s how long senior officer Spock has been waiting for a permanent assignment. He’s spent nearly half a year bouncing between the shelter and foster care—and he’s still waiting to boldly go home.

His current foster family is heading out on extended travel, and Spock needs a new place to crash—whether it’s temporary or (fingers crossed) forever.

🖖 Spock’s Command Log:
❤️ Senior, low-maintenance, and deeply snuggly
🥰 Lives for the company of humans—especially teens
🦴 Must be the only pet (he’s a solo-mission kind of guy)
🥔 Master napper, certified couch lounger
🐾 Minimal stairs only — arthritis makes climbing illogical
👑 Kind, calm, and ready for the cozy life

He’s been patient. He’s been polite. But 172 days is a long time to wait for someone to say, “You're home now.”

Set phasers to cuddle and let’s make sure Spock doesn’t have to beam back into the shelter.

Ace Deserves His Second Chance – From My Heart to Yours

I want to tell you about Ace, a 3-year-old Rottweiler who has stolen my heart.

Ace spent most of his young life tied up outside as a guard dog. That was his whole world — no toys, no soft beds, no one to love him. When he first came to our shelter, he was so shut down that it broke my heart to see him lying there, scared and confused.

But here’s the beautiful thing about Ace: when he gets out of the shelter, he lights up. He turns into this big, wiggly, playful boy who loves fetch, belly rubs, long walks, and just being near his person. He’s good with kids, doing well with potty training, and incredibly food-motivated — which means he’s eager to learn.

Ace isn’t perfect — none of us are. He doesn’t like other dogs, so he needs to be the only dog in the home. He doesn’t like crates or barriers, and he struggles with being left alone — sometimes chewing things when he’s anxious. But when someone is there with him, he’s calm, happy, and at peace.

He was adopted once, but it didn’t work out. Not because he’s a bad dog — but because Ace needs time. Time to learn, time to trust, and time to finally feel like he belongs.

That’s why I’m asking for your help. I want to send Ace to a sanctuary program, where he can get the training, structure, and love he needs to thrive. This will give him the best chance at finding his forever home — one that truly understands him.

However, this kind of care comes at a cost — $4,500 for a year of daily care, training, and transportation.

I believe with all my heart that Ace is worth it. I believe he deserves this chance to leave his painful past behind and step into a future where he is loved and accepted exactly as he is. I believe Ace’s life is worth every penny. He has come so far, and with your help, we can give him the chance to heal, grow, and finally find a loving home.

Will you help me give Ace this chance?

Every dollar you give brings him closer to a safe, healing place and the future he’s been waiting for.

Donate today and be part of Ace’s journey.

From my heart to yours — thank you for helping me give Ace the life he deserves.

Sincerely,
Weng Horak, Founder & CEO, CARE STL

“No, no shelter mother, I’ll do the work for you” - Winnie The Pooh and his honey gold paws.

He spent the morning meeting all of the outcomes team, hanging out in a meeting, and then finishing up my admin work. What a good boy 🍯

Word on the street is that the shelter dogs are requesting to be tucked in at bedtime. Ilana took that very seriously. 🌙

She’s just a baby—6 months old—found in O’Fallon Park less than 2 weeks ago with another young pup. She’s sweet, gentle, and ready for the kind of home where bedtime stories and goodnight kisses are guaranteed.

✨ Come meet Ilana tomorrow at CARE STL, 2700 Walnut Place, St. Louis, MO. We’re open 1–7 PM on weekdays and 1–6 PM on weekends. 🐾💙

✨ Dovie Update ✨
Our sweet girl is back to her happy, goofy self and eating well on her own! She’s taking all her oral medications like a champ and no longer needs IV treatments. 🐾

She’s still not completely out of the woods, but these are all very positive signs just 2 days after surgery. 💙

If you don’t think your $5 donation matters, Dovie would like you to know it does. This kind of lifesaving care is only possible because of donations from our community. Every gift helps us give dogs like Dovie the chance they deserve. 🥰

Don’t forget — every gift this month is being matched up to $25,000. Double the care. Double the love. 💙

Lucki wants to know… how many of you can do this with your tongue? 👅

She’s only a little over 1 year old and she’s already got all the personality. But behind the bleps and goofy ears, Lucki is really struggling in the shelter. Her brain is craving enrichment, training, and a “job” to do. She’s the type of girl who will thrive with someone who can channel her smarts into fun and focus.

If you’re looking for a best friend to laugh with, train with, and show off those tongue skills… Lucki’s your girl. 💙
