🌟❄️⛄️🎁 GOAL: LETS GET 20 DOGS IN A WARM HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS THIS WEEKEND! CAN WE DO IT?!🎄🎁⛄️❄️🌟

While we’re all heading home to fuzzy blankets, hot cocoa, and family traditions… they're alone on concrete floors waiting for the sun to come up. But you can change that!!

And guess what? It doesn’t have to be forever. Unless you want it to of course! ;)

✨ Even a 2–3 week foster is HUGE. ✨
That short stay keeps them warm, lowers their stress, and opens space for us to help more dogs during the coldest days of the year!

You bring the love! ❤️
We bring everything else — food, supplies, vet care, and full support. 🙌

…there is a dog here who would love to spend Holidays with you!🎄🎁⛄️❄️

💫 Imagine waking up to a wagging tail on Christmas morning!
💫 Imagine being the reason a dog doesn’t spend the holidays in a cold kennel.
💫 Imagine knowing you changed a life — just by opening your door!

🐾 Come to CARE STL today and meet your holiday houseguest, or forever family member! :)

If you cant foster, or adopt SHARE to spread the word! 🐾🐾🐾

Happy Facebook Friday!!

Introducing, Cookie Butter!!! 🍪

Our sweet, shy girly came to us back in January of 2024. Yeah, LAST YEAR. She was originally named “Wasabi”, but those who know her, know that she’s sweet as cookie butter. So out with the old name and in with the new —
✨Cookie Butter ✨

Cookie is recovering from a tail amputation. No dog should have to recover from surgery at the shelter. She needs a comfy home to recover in. She’s looking to be your one and only fur baby! Please come take her home ❤️

Give 20 DOGS a Warm Home for the Holidays — Even Just for a Couple of Weeks

As the temperatures drop and we all head home to cozy blankets, warm meals, and family traditions, our shelter dogs are hoping for the same comfort — even just for a short time. ❤️

This holiday season, you can give a dog the greatest gift of all: a warm, safe home.

Even a 2–3 week foster makes an enormous difference. It helps them stay warm, reduces shelter stress, and gives us room to respond to emergencies during the coldest days of the year.

You provide the love.
We provide everything else — food, supplies, and support.

Whether you’re staying home for the holidays, working remotely, or just want some extra joy in your life, there is a dog here who would be so grateful to spend the season by your side.

Come to CARE STL today and meet a dog who needs you. We will be open at noon.

Let’s make this a holiday where every dog feels the warmth of home.

If you cant foster, or adopt SHARE to spread the word! 🐾🐾🐾

Howden came to us last year over the Christmas Holiday. He was confiscated from a cruelty case & the shelter he landed at placed a lot of the dogs removed from the property he came from - but he was unable to be placed in rescue due being “essentially feral”. Some people were pushing (hard) for euthanasia due to them being labeled as feral by the medical director at the shelter & citing public safety concerns if they left the building.

—- “We both believe that these dogs should be humanely euthanized as soon as possible to end their suffering. Their fear is severe, not responding to medications, and they have poor quality of life. Additionally, most veterinarians agree that long term warehousing of dogs is inhumane, ultimately due to the quality of life.

Is there anything I can do to make you more comfortable with what we are advising? I know that euthanasia is often perceived like a failure, but often it is one of the kindest things we can do, especially when we are put in difficult situations like this.”/—-

Instead, others rallied & reached out to us as a last resort, Hail Mary. We decided to help.

It’s been a year of recovery for Howden & he is far from feral at this point. He is living with a foster, comes to daycare every day, he helps other dogs in rehabilitation programs & most importantly he has an amazing quality of life. He needs no medications to function. He needed to get off the debilitating drugs so he could be with us mentally to learn to trust & understand he was safe,

We have raised nothing to support the costs of his year-long rehabilitation program, boarding, medical expenses… but even if we don’t recoup the costs & aren’t able to continue to help new cases, even if we end up closing & just supporting the dogs we have committed to.. I am ok with it. Howden is a very cool, sweet, gentle & caring dog - he needed us & we were able to help him relearn what relationships with humans can be. He knows love / he loves. It was worth it.

Update: Makani left today for foster!💕🐾🎉🎊

🚨 URGENT: We Need 26 Dogs Out Before Single-Digit Temps Hit 🚨

With dangerously low temperatures coming, we are working so hard to keep every animal safe. But, the sad thing we heard today was " the second heating unit is now becoming compromised" — not surprising after trying to warm an entire 8,500 sq. ft. building. Our vendor is aware and will be here ASAP, and they’re bringing additional space heaters to help stabilize the temperatures.

But right now, we need the community more than ever.

We have 26 dogs who urgently need to leave the building so we can keep them warm and be able to respond to emergencies next week.

We are preparing for the worst:
• Calling boarding facilities in case we must move dogs off-site (a cost we never budget for)
• Buying extra crates for fosters stepping up
• Creating emergency plans to keep every animal safe through the cold snap

Can you foster a dog for a couple of weeks?

Even a short-term foster saves a life and frees space so we can protect the most vulnerable animals.

Come today to CARE STL and take a dog home. We will be open at noon!

We will match you with a dog that fits your home and lifestyle.

Can’t foster but want to help?
Please consider donating so we can:
• Cover emergency boarding fees
• Purchase additional crates
• Keep our animals safe during this extreme weather

Thank you for always showing up for the animals of St. Louis. Together, we will get them through this. 🐾

The kennels are getting quieter…
Not because spirits are low — but because dogs are finally going HOME.
And now we’re closer than ever to something we’ve only dreamed about!!

✨ A shelter with no dogs left waiting. ✨

Picture it: walking down a hallway where every door is open, every blanket has been packed up, every pup is already snuggled on a couch somewhere…
Warm. Safe. Loved.

We’re not imagining anymore — we’re almost there.
And you could be the reason the next kennel goes empty!

All it takes is a soft place to sleep and someone willing to let a dog exhale for the first time in a long time!

If you’ve been thinking about helping — this is your sign.
These dogs don’t need perfection.
They just need a human who’s willing to open the door!

Not in a spot to foster or adopt?
A simple SHARE can help that next tail find its way home. 🐾
