🚫 Shelter Closed Today and Tomorrow - January 7 & 8 🚫

We want to let everyone know that our shelter will be closed today and tomorrow (January 7–8) due to a viral infection circulating among some of our cats.

This type of illness is very common in shelters and fully treatable, but to keep it from spreading further, we need to limit foot traffic for a couple of days and let our kitties rest and recover.

We have so many wonderful cats who can’t wait to meet you — we just want to make sure they stay healthy and happy.

👉 Please plan a visit this weekend if you’re looking to find your perfect feline match!
Thank you so much for your understanding and support. Our cats appreciate you, and so do we. 😽

🎄 Merry Christmas from Fuji, Esmeralda, Strawberry, Streaker, Corduroy, Sunflower and Ballerina Girl!

Whether they’re snoozing, playing, or soaking up a little extra love today, these sweet faces are sending you holiday wishes straight from the shelter. They aren’t in a home, and they aren’t curled up on a couch—but they are safe, warm, and cared for. And while that isn’t what we wish for them, they are surrounded by something incredibly important: people like you who care.

Thank you for being part of their story—and for caring about cats who are still waiting for home. Wishing you a warm, gentle, very Merry Christmas from all of us (and them). 💚✨

🎄 As you’re wrapping up your last-minute Christmas shopping...we hope you’ll pause for a moment and think of the cats who will be spending Christmas with us at the shelter.

These are cats who are safe, warm, and loved — but still waiting. Waiting for homes. Waiting for families. Waiting for their turn. And while Santa hasn’t made it to our shelter yet this year, you can.

We are in desperate need of Squeeze Up treats and toys. These small things mean everything to our cats. The treats help us medicate cats that otherwise refuse; and toys provide moments of joy, comfort, enrichment, and reassurance during a season that can be especially hard when you don’t have a home of your own.

If you’re able, please consider purchasing one or two items from our Amazon wishlist. It’s a simple act that helps make Christmas a little brighter for cats who need it most.

Thank you for being part of their Christmas story — and for helping us remind them they are not forgotten. ❤️🐾

OUR HOLIDAY PARTY IS ALMOST HERE!! ✨

This Wednesday at the Ritz-Carlton - and if that makes you think “oh, this is going to be all fancy ” - think again.

Whiskers Wonderland is a true come-as-you-are kind of evening. Some people dress up, some don’t. There are twinkling lights, music, good food, and a room full of people who care deeply about cats.

There won’t be cats at the party — but everything about the night is for them.
For the cats who show up hungry.
For the cats who show up sick or scared.
For the ones who need us to be ready when they arrive.

We’ll have food from Imo’s (pizza, toasted ravioli, mozzarella sticks, and salad) plus other snacks, cookies from The Cup, a 50/50 raffle and other raffle prizes, and just a really lovely evening together.

Tickets are free. We do ask guests to bring one or two items from our wishlist and/or a $50 donation per person if they’re able — and if not, you’re still welcome! Doors open at 6pm, close at 8:30pm.

If you’ve been on the fence, this is your sign. We’d love to see you there.

✨ Whiskers Wonderland is almost here! ✨

Join us for our Second Annual Holiday Party — a magical evening where compassion, community, and holiday cheer come together to support the cats who need us most.

📅 Wednesday, December 17
📍 The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis – Solarium
⏰ Doors open at 6:00 PM, close at 8:30
🎟 FREE tickets: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/whiskers-wonderland--2025
🛒 Wishlist gifts welcome: https://a.co/72hZWPW

This is one of our favorite nights of the year. Twinkling lights, holiday music, a live musician, good company — and a shared commitment to helping the cats who arrive at our shelter every single day. Come as you are and enjoy an evening that feels warm, joyful, and full of purpose.

While tickets are free, we kindly ask guests to bring or send one or two items from our wishlist and/or make a suggested $50 donation to support the medical care, shelter, and second chances that our cats rely on.

🌟 Volunteer Opportunity!
We’re also looking for 3–5 volunteers to help greet guests, direct flow into the Solarium, and occasionally circulate with a donation box or iPad. If you’d like to lend a hand, we’d be so grateful — and you’ll still get to enjoy the celebration!

This evening lifts up the work that carries us through the year — caring for cats who show up hungry, hurt, abandoned, or simply needing a safe place to land. ✨

We can’t wait to celebrate the season — and the lifesaving impact this community makes possible.

❤️ See you at Whiskers Wonderland!

SOME CATS ARRIVE CARRYING SO MUCH SUFFERING that you can see it the moment you lay eyes on them.

Dash was one of those cats.

He was found by a DoorDasher on the side of a road. She could see he was in bad shape. She reached out for him and he climbed right into her arms. Cuddled with her in the car as she drove worriedly, and sought help.

We are glad she found us.

Dash was skeletal. He was half the weight he should have been.
His right ear was gone from an untreated hematoma.
His eyes were infected.
He was covered in live ticks.
He was severely hyperthyroid.
He was SO, SO friendly and quirky and vocal and loving.

He had been suffering for a long time. He had been doing it alone.

And he arrived too late for us to save him.

Did we try? You know we did. We gave him warm blankets, offered him a smorgasbord of foods, got him the best veterinary care, gave him attention. He LOVED to walk around our lobby, even though he didn't have too much energy. He loved pets and scratches - and we loved to give them, though under his skin he seemed to be just bone. We medicated him. We weighed him and his food. We syringe fed him. We cleaned him. We pulled ticks off of him. We told him we loved him. We encouraged him. Then we pleaded with him.

We fought for him right down to the moment our vet said those dreaded words "It's time." We cannot begin to tell you how painful it was to lose this fight.

Sometimes we cannot right the wrongs of those who came before us. We couldn’t change Dash’s ending. But because of you - because you are our partner in this wonderful, meaningful, heartbreaking work - he did not leave this world cold, unseen or in pain.

We made him warm.
We made him comfortable.
We made sure he was not alone.
And above all, we made sure his suffering finally ended with dignity and love.

Tonight, as we close out Giving Tuesday, we’re asking you to help make sure we are ready for the next Dash — the next cat who shows up with no time left to wait.

Your Giving Tuesday gift will be DOUBLED thanks to a generous match.
Your support ensures that the next cat who arrives in crisis gets the chance Dash didn’t — or at the very least, the peace he finally found with us.

Will you be there when the next cat shows up?

❄️CATS ARRIVE AT OUR DOOR BLIND AND ALONE

Cats like Gordie, a tiny kitten who had been navigating the city streets without sight, relying on instinct and luck to stay alive. He showed up blind, alone, and completely vulnerable — but determined to survive - and somehow he made it far enough to reach us.

When he arrived, his eyes were severely damaged, non-functional, red and watery,
infected, with his third eyelid showing — the kind of condition that certainly would have become life-threatening very quickly. He was disoriented and shy, unsure of everything around him.

But when he showed up, we were there.

Gordie got the specialized medical care he needed immediately, and he will continue to need more. His eyes can’t be saved, and for his long-term health and comfort, they will eventually need to be surgically sewn shut to prevent dangerous infections.

But right now?
Gordie is thriving. He wanders our lobby happily. He loves to play and to be pet.
He’s still blind — but he's finally safe - thanks to the care your support enables.

Cats like Gordie will keep showing up. Will you be there for the next one?

🌙 CATS ARRIVE AT OUR DOOR SICK AND SCARED

Twilight came to us from an under-resourced shelter where she cowered in the back of a small box hoping if no one could reach her, no one could hurt her. She was sick, congested, eyes crusted over, and trembling, waiting for something bad to happen.

She was scheduled for euthanasia simply because she was too scared and too sick. That shelter had no space, no staff, and no resources left for her. They couldn't see how wonderful she was.

So we took her.

And little by little… Twilight bloomed.

She now greets everyone with soft eyes and gentle purrs. She comes forward. She leans into pets. She trusts. She’s ready for her family.
This is what your GivingTuesday gift makes possible.

💛 YOUR DONATION TODAY IS MATCHED and will help us be there for even more cats like Twilight. They are waiting.
