SOME CATS ARRIVE CARRYING SO MUCH SUFFERING that you can see it the moment you lay eyes on them.

Dash was one of those cats.

He was found by a DoorDasher on the side of a road. She could see he was in bad shape. She reached out for him and he climbed right into her arms. Cuddled with her in the car as she drove worriedly, and sought help.

We are glad she found us.

Dash was skeletal. He was half the weight he should have been.
His right ear was gone from an untreated hematoma.
His eyes were infected.
He was covered in live ticks.
He was severely hyperthyroid.
He was SO, SO friendly and quirky and vocal and loving.

He had been suffering for a long time. He had been doing it alone.

And he arrived too late for us to save him.

Did we try? You know we did. We gave him warm blankets, offered him a smorgasbord of foods, got him the best veterinary care, gave him attention. He LOVED to walk around our lobby, even though he didn't have too much energy. He loved pets and scratches - and we loved to give them, though under his skin he seemed to be just bone. We medicated him. We weighed him and his food. We syringe fed him. We cleaned him. We pulled ticks off of him. We told him we loved him. We encouraged him. Then we pleaded with him.

We fought for him right down to the moment our vet said those dreaded words "It's time." We cannot begin to tell you how painful it was to lose this fight.

Sometimes we cannot right the wrongs of those who came before us. We couldn’t change Dash’s ending. But because of you - because you are our partner in this wonderful, meaningful, heartbreaking work - he did not leave this world cold, unseen or in pain.

We made him warm.
We made him comfortable.
We made sure he was not alone.
And above all, we made sure his suffering finally ended with dignity and love.

Tonight, as we close out Giving Tuesday, we’re asking you to help make sure we are ready for the next Dash — the next cat who shows up with no time left to wait.

Your Giving Tuesday gift will be DOUBLED thanks to a generous match.
Your support ensures that the next cat who arrives in crisis gets the chance Dash didn’t — or at the very least, the peace he finally found with us.

Will you be there when the next cat shows up?

❄️CATS ARRIVE AT OUR DOOR BLIND AND ALONE

Cats like Gordie, a tiny kitten who had been navigating the city streets without sight, relying on instinct and luck to stay alive. He showed up blind, alone, and completely vulnerable — but determined to survive - and somehow he made it far enough to reach us.

When he arrived, his eyes were severely damaged, non-functional, red and watery,
infected, with his third eyelid showing — the kind of condition that certainly would have become life-threatening very quickly. He was disoriented and shy, unsure of everything around him.

But when he showed up, we were there.

Gordie got the specialized medical care he needed immediately, and he will continue to need more. His eyes can’t be saved, and for his long-term health and comfort, they will eventually need to be surgically sewn shut to prevent dangerous infections.

But right now?
Gordie is thriving. He wanders our lobby happily. He loves to play and to be pet.
He’s still blind — but he's finally safe - thanks to the care your support enables.

Cats like Gordie will keep showing up. Will you be there for the next one?

🌙 CATS ARRIVE AT OUR DOOR SICK AND SCARED

Twilight came to us from an under-resourced shelter where she cowered in the back of a small box hoping if no one could reach her, no one could hurt her. She was sick, congested, eyes crusted over, and trembling, waiting for something bad to happen.

She was scheduled for euthanasia simply because she was too scared and too sick. That shelter had no space, no staff, and no resources left for her. They couldn't see how wonderful she was.

So we took her.

And little by little… Twilight bloomed.

She now greets everyone with soft eyes and gentle purrs. She comes forward. She leans into pets. She trusts. She’s ready for her family.
This is what your GivingTuesday gift makes possible.

💛 YOUR DONATION TODAY IS MATCHED and will help us be there for even more cats like Twilight. They are waiting.

🐾 CATS ARRIVE AT OUR DOOR EVERY DAY IN CONDITIONS YOU CAN'T IMAGINE

They show up:
• in trash bags
• wandering alone with ringworm
• blind and starving in a parking lot
• covered in fleas and ticks
• trembling in a crate left beside an outhouse
• injured after being hit by a car
• dumped behind gas stations
• abandoned when their people move away
• sick, weak, or fighting a deadly disease like FIP

They show up when no one else comes for them - and your support makes it possible for us to open the door.

Cats Like Pearl and her kittens: Anchovy, Sardine and Shrimp. They were found in a trash bag.

On trash collection day.

A sanitation worker saw the bag move—and inside were a terrified mother cat and her three tiny kittens. Pearl, Sardine, Shrimp, and Anchovy, all flea-infested and starving. Their little bodies were nothing but skin and bones.

They hadn’t eaten in so long that we had to syringe-feed the babies just to keep them stable. This is what real cruelty looks like.

Today, on GivingTuesday, we’re asking one thing: Will you be there when cats like these show up?

💛 Your donation is DOUBLED all day:

🐾 Will you be there when they show up?

Every day, cats arrive at our door in all kinds of ways:
Some show up starving.
Some show up sick.
Some show up abandoned in parks.
Some show up blind or injured.
Some show up terrified after losing the only home they’ve ever known.
And some show up hurt so badly or so late that all we can offer is gentleness, warmth, and comfort in their final moments.

They don’t wait for the “right” time. They show up when they need someone.

Because of you, we can open the door.

This GivingTuesday, we’re asking one simple, powerful question:
Will you be there when the next cat shows up?

Early giving is already in progress — and your support today will ensure we can be there for the cats who will arrive tomorrow...and the day after that...and all winter long.

If you believe every cat deserves warmth, nourishment, medical care, safety, and love the moment they arrive, please make your early GivingTuesday gift now. Thanks to a wonderful donor, EVERY DONATION WILL BE DOUBLED!

Your generosity makes every rescue — and every moment of comfort — possible.

❄️ Weather Update ❄️
For the safety of our volunteers, staff, and community, The Cat Shelter is closed to the public today due to the winter storm. We may also be closed tomorrow depending on road conditions.

Our cats are safe and cozy inside, and our essential caregivers are still making sure everyone is fed, warm, and loved.

We’ll post an update tomorrow as soon as we know more. Thank you for understanding, and please stay safe out there. 🐾

🏠BEST WISHES TO FRANK!

Frank’s story started in a window well—soaked from the rain, huddled with his 7 "hot sauce" siblings, far too close to a high-traffic road. A home renovation crew spotted the kittens cowering together and called us right away. Our volunteers switched into high-gear rescue mode, carefully trapping all eight tiny bodies and getting them out of danger and into safety.

When Frank arrived, he was scared and very unsure of this whole “people” business. But like so many of the cats who come through our doors, he just needed time, patience, and a whole lot of gentle consistency.

And wow—did he blossom.

Frank became a playful, sweet, affectionate little guy who discovered that hands aren’t scary… they’re for pets. And scritches. And more pets. The photo says it all: Frank on his cat tree, soaking up all the attention from his person—because Frank finally found his someone.

Join us in wishing this once-terrified window-well kitten the happiest new beginning.
Safe, loved, and exactly where he belongs. 😻

🐟A HUGE THANK YOU FROM ANCHOVY, SARDINE AND SHRIMP!

We want to thank everyone who donated kitten food for our “trash bag kittens" - Anchovy, Sardine, and Shrimp. When they arrived, they weren’t eating on their own at all. Their little bodies were so thin and depleted that every little bone in their body could be easily felt. We had to syringe-feed them just to make sure they were getting enough nutrition to stay stable.

The response to our request for chicken kitten food was more generous than we could have imagined and we are extremely happy to tell you - it is helping!

The kittens are still fragile and have a long road ahead - they don't have a lot of energy and mostly want to be warm and cuddled - but they’ve started eating more on their own since we've received your donations… and they even show some enthusiasm while they do it.

This may sound small, but for kittens who arrived in such rough shape, it’s a big and very hopeful step.

Thank you for caring about them, for acting so quickly to get food to us, and for giving these three tiny fighters a real chance.

You all are an essential part of their journey and we will keep you updated on their progress.💙
