Well, we named Ripley perfectly. Because believe it or not - it's a girl after all. There was so much matting, we couldn't really tell until we got in there.
This poor, poor baby. This was a horribly disgusting shave job that took three people. Her hair is full of maggots and feces. Her skin has a severe infection and urine burns.
We believe this dog was kept in an outdoor crate, where she couldn't get out of her own waste. What probably started as a hot spot that went untreated, turned into a full-fledged skin infection. Her skin is wet under the hair, and she's literally being eaten alive.
It's going to take her awhile to heal, this is just horrible. She's also emaciated under all that hair. Whoever tied her up this morning...
On top of it all, she's only about 1 year old. We're giving her pain meds, fluids, a catheter, and IV antibiotics. Stay tuned for an updated photo, but we're going to let her sleep as long as she needs. So if you don't hear anything for a few hours, don't worry. We created a webpage for Ripley if you'd like to donate to her care, she is going to need it: Strayrescue.org/Ripley
Surviving in the shadows
Just 10 months old and living all alone. Surviving in the shadows, it’s safer to be alone than to ask the wrong person for help.
Until we found her.
You’re coming with us. You will never be alone again. Just take this leap of faith with us. It’s ok if you have to crawl. We’re so proud of you. We can’t wait to show you toys, treats, puppy friends, and all the love you’ve been missing. You’re so worthy, little one.
We named her Kukala. What a special little soul.

Delmar Gardens helps homeless animals in STL
The kind, loving people at Delmar Gardens Family are helping animals! They are covering adoption fees for all of our loving dogs and cats this month - Any baby over 6 months old. Add a member to your family, it is a wonderful time to do so as summer comes to an end! Strayrescue.org/adopt
We could watch this all night. Such bliss, so wholesome. This is mama Rhaenyra and her littles. They feel so safe because they are in a foster home.
If you'd like to foster a mother dog or mother cat and their babes, please let us know so when one comes in, they can go right to your house. ♥

Teamwork and collaboration gets the job done!
A few weeks ago, there was severe flooding just across the river. Several shelters gathered together to help one that was flooding bad. We filled our spay/neuter bus with animals and helped transport them to Gateway Pet Guardians, who took the majority of them in. It was a scary day, but all animals got out safely, thank god.
For this month's spay/neuter event, our sponsor cares deeply for collaboration and teamwork. He wants to remain anonymous, but we thought it was a perfect oppportunity to help spay/neuter those animals that were taken in from the flooding, and help our friends get caught back up on surgeries! We picked up a bus-load of animals, got them all spayed/neutered, and returned them at the end of the day so they are all now officially ready for foster and adoption!
It's going to be a beautiful weekend this weekend. Please take the opportunity to foster or adopt a beautiful dog from a shelter near you! These animals need you, and we promise you will meet some very sweet souls, all just begging for their chance:

Dog with 3 broken legs is full of GRATITUDE
I think Prairie is starting to feel a little better....What do you think? 😍
She is so full of GRATITUDE. She came to us with not one, not two, but three broken legs after being hit on a busy highway. Because you believe in us, trust us, and sent a donation, she was able to have two major surgeries already. She had plates and pins put in her two front legs by a specialist and is healing beautifully. Follow her journey with us, we can't wait until she's strong enough to walk for the first time. Prairie returns after her surgeries!
Prairie had her two massive leg surgeries yesterday, and she gets to come back and heal with us! Wait until she sees her favorite nurse, Stephanie...
There were so many scenarios in which she would not have a positive outcome or ever be able to walk again. But we should be able to get her running again with a wonderful quality of life, without having to stay in the clinic for months and months. We are excited for her future and will keep everyone updated on her progress!

Excessive heat warning - hot rescue
We have another excessive heat warning today in St. Louis until 7pm. It is too hot to keep your dogs outside, bring them in! Make sure they have fresh, cool water, access to shade and can get off the hot concrete. 🥵
This pup showed up at a scrap yard. The workers gave her water but realized she was in poor condition and needed rescue. We picked her up and fell in love with this gentle girl! We named her Sherbet and got her in the nice, cool Jeep.
We need foster homes!! Can you foster a pup or cat so we can keep rescuing?
If you have fostered with us before, please email [email protected].
If you have not fostered with us before, start here: Strayrescue.org/Foster
Thank you!

Pup found with wire wrapped around neck
Pup found with wire wrapped around neck
Pup found with wire wrapped around neck, this is Scrunchie's story
Imagine you’re a puppy and someone ties a cable around your neck. Then they forget about you. As months go by and you grow into a young adult, the cable gets tighter and tighter. So tight that it cuts through your skin, causing searing pain that you can never escape from. It twists around itself and gets caught on everything. After awhile, this cruel prison becomes part of you as you try to block out the pain and just survive another day. Every time you move you step on it, sending another sharp pain into your neck.
We received a call about a dog with an embedded collar so went to check it out. Hiding deep in the bushes, we spotted a young pup, probably just one year old. She looked at us with big, scared eyes. She turned her head to the side and we could see her neck…oh my gosh. All of the skin on her neck had been cut open by a very tight cable. We couldn’t put a leash on her wound so patiently coaxed her to come with us, doing our best not to do any pulling. She was frightened but so brave, and came with us...(continue reading and please give!): Strayrescue.org/SOS
"This is maybe the sweetest dog we have ever had in our studio"
Take it from Kent Ehrhardt! He (and the KMOV staff) fell so in love with Tapioca when she got to be the Pet of the Week!
She came to us so sad, covered in old scars and new wounds. Her head hung low - she was defeated. But she's not looking back. This fun-loving girl knows she's been given a whole new life and she's READY for it! Her entire body wiggles and she comes up to our knees. She's an absolute doll with a shining personality.
To be the very lucky person who takes Tapioca home, fill out an app right here!
Thank you Kent & KMOV for this great opportunity!

Yellow Submarine loving the beach
Yellow Submarine from the Beatles litter is living the good life! We watched this three times. It's so peaceful. What a lucky dog - this is what it's all about 🩷.
Adopt your family member here and start the greatest adventure of your life. You'll look at things differently, through their eyes. Strayrescue.org/adopt
It’s SPAY NEUTER DAY!! 🧡💛
Many thanks to The Culture Club for your generous sponsorship of this very important program! We’re so grateful for you!!
Coming next, the reveal!
You saw the before pictures.
Here is the now. It feels so good to get all this disgusting, matted hair off of her little body. Next...the REVEAL! Stay tuned!...
Loving on Lycan
Lycan is miserable. His skin is hot and raw, and he still can't stop itching. He's covered in scabs and sores, but we gloved up and gave him what he craves most - human touch. It's all he wants.
He is such a sweet guy and deserves the whole entire world. We know he can beat this infection and heal. He has a wonderful attitude and disposition.
Lycan, we LOVE you! Please give to his care if you are able: Strayrescue.org/Lycan
