Hi Everyone, from Rhapsody. đź’–
We can barely handle this face. We would do anything for you, sweet angel. We'll help you heal your giant wound. Then we'll find you a glorious family who pinch themselves every day wondering how they found a soul like hers to share their lives with. One day at a time.
Bandage changes, wound cleaning, and laser treatments are what the doctor ordered for Rhapsody's large, third degree burn that covers a large portion of her lower back. We'll keep everyone posted on this warrior girl's healing journey. Strayrescue.org/saving-rhapsody

Ready to meet your new best friend?

We recently shared Lumi's rescue story with you. She spent months on the street and now that she is safe with us, she is looking for her perfect family! This girl has surprised us all at just how perfect she is. Lumi can be a little shy at first, but she will be your loyal and constant companion. She loves soft blankets, toys, treats and is great on a leash and enjoys her walks. She literally prances down the street wagging her tail on her walks. It's the cutest, she looks so happy and proud to have someone that takes care of her and loves her. She sniffs and explores to take in everything that is new to her.
Now that she has also had a taste of what it's like to have people around, she will be your shadow! She has decided she absolutely loves us, loves attention, and is not willing to give it up. đź’›
We have tested her with a few dogs and she seems to prefer dogs that are calm and not right up in her face. She would probably be fine with any dog that matches her lower energy level. She's very chill.
Mostly, we think she just wants a couch to share with her person and to have their companionship.
If you think you might be her perfect family, fill out an application and we can contact you to set up a meet-and-greet.
Lumi is a 4.5 year old female, 64 pounds.

It's Thursday! You know what that means - It's TNR Thursday and we are spaying/neutering feral kitties today!
Many neighborhoods are full of cats. They are feral, meaning they were born on the streets and will not let a human touch them. They've learned to survive and typically stay in the same safe place, with their colony. But they reproduce, so we work with local groups who do the trapping, and we help with medical!
We have just released our TNR Thursday calendar for those who would like to help by sponsoring the costs of one of these days! Sponsorships are $500 and cover the costs of the kitties we are sterilizing. They each receive a compassionate surgery, and then are returned to their colony by the groups we work with. When you sponsor, you're making this program possible, helping the kitties live much healthier lives, helping to control the population, AND you'll get a shout out on our social media, so it's really fun do it for a birthday or in honor of a loved one.
Check it out and sign up today! Strayrescue.org/TNR

Our volunteers are so special to us. They give their most precious resource to our animals...time.
This precious boy is Veto. He's 2 years old, and full of energy. A lil wild man and we love him. It's important for him to get lots of exercise and not be cooped up all day. Our volunteers Maria and Marci took him and another dog for a car ride, a walk through beautiful Cemetery and Arboretum so they could sniff their hearts out, then a pup cup on the way back.
This one afternoon out was a fun day for our volunteers, but for Veto it meant everything. Look at his happy content smile.
Veto would do great in a home with some structure and training, as many 1-2 year olds need! A place to run off some of that energy before they turn in to snuggle all night. He has excellent house manners, is quite charming, and of course has the cutest face. He's just 45 pounds and absolutely loves learning new things.
Give Veto a home! If you aren't in a position to add to your family, or maybe you live somewhere pets can't...consider becoming a volunteer and donating your time to adventuring with shelter pups! It is time well-spent!!

The wholesome content we ALL need.
The family who is adopting Wallace came to visit him again, and one of our volunteers was in the lobby and grabbed this video for all of us! 🥹 We won't judge if you watch it on repeat...(we did the same thing!)

This is what all of our hearts need. To know he's going to be so loved.

And, because Wallace is dedicated to helping us clear our shelter, he wants to remind everyone that even though he is lucky enough to have a family who loves him already, our shelter IS FULL of sweet babies just like him! Our shelter is sadly still on an emergency rescue freeze, so we are offering another emergency foster class this Saturday at 12:30pm, and have added more emergency matchmaking appointments for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!
If you have a dog, bring them to your matchmaking appointment and they can help you choose your new family member.

And thank you Susan for grabbing this video!! You were in the right place at the right time! đź’–

The call came in and it was a race against time.

World, meet Rhapsody! This girl was in another state, soon to be euthanized in a shelter that wasn’t able to give her all the medical care she was going to need. And she would need a lot of it. Because of YOU, our supporters, we ARE a place that can help her. Cassady said “YES” and she was on her way! The shelter workers were so happy. No one ever wants to have to euthanize, but it’s a part of our world due to severe overcrowding and underfunding. We help each other as much as we possibly can.

Rhapsody came in with a huge, horrible third degree burn covering her lower back. She also had some burns on her paw pads. We don’t know what happened. We can guess that something may have been poured on her based on the shape of the burn, but we really don’t know. All we do know is she is safe here and now getting the emergency medical care she desperately needs. And on top of this horrible injury, she is also battling heartworm disease.

And wait until you hear about her personality….WOW this girl is AMAZING!! She smiles, she slowly wags her entire body (not just her tail), and she gives thank you kisses. She’s beyond gentle. Perhaps an angel wearing fur?

If you remember Aria’s story from last January, another burn survivor, Rhapsody will need bandage changes, laser treatments, and her wound needs to be kept very clean. We will keep everyone updated on her healing journey. It’s going to take some time but this sweet girl is worth every effort, every penny.

Please consider making a donation today for Rhapsody! We made this page for her so you can check for updates in case you miss anything on our pages! We’ll keep you all updated! https://www.strayrescue.org/saving-rhapsody

Mila, the beautiful, good natured, sweet-to-everyone Rottie is ready for adoption!

She’s an 80 pound female, and as kind as they come. She’s a go-to for our new volunteers, because she is such a pleasure to walk and spend time with. Every new volunteer that brings her back always says, “Wow, I love her!” She walks beside you on her leash, and sits pretty for a treat. She’s an absolute treasure.

Mila came to us with large mammary tumors (grade 1 and grade 2) that had to be removed. The grade 2 tumor metastasized into the lymph nodes. She did great in surgery and is recovered. But, since it was in the lymph nodes, you can assume there are still cancerous cells in there. There is a 15% chance it will metastasize to her lungs or other organs. So she’s not officially a hospice dog, but her family would need to know this so they can enjoy every moment together.

Stray Rescue will cover her inflammatory medications for the rest of her life, and anything related to her cancer treatment, should it return.

And! Because she’s about 7-8 years old, she makes an excellent candidate for our Seniors for Seniors Program! With this program, we match laid back pups with seniors, as well as offer additional benefits. In Mila’s case, her medications will be covered for any adopter.

Apply to meet this beauty here and break her out of the shelter, where she is living in a crate because we are SO FULL!

LIKE if you agree that a house is made of wood, beams and a foundation, but does not truly become a home until you have a dog. ❤

This is long-timer Lil Ray. He's currently the project manager for one of our volunteers' new homes. He can't wait until he can help someone turn their quiet house in a loving home, full of laughter, cuddles, and wiggles every time you get home.
Lil Ray is a part of our One Love Club and is seeking a home where he can be your one and only furry love! Strayrescue.org/adoption-application

To everyone who stomped around St. Louis on December 13th, drinking and being merry for @12 Bars of Charity ...YOU did THIS!!!
We just opened an envelope with a check inside for $72,818!! Thank you, thank you one and all for joining the bar crawl that does so much GOOD in St. Louis! Even though it was very cold (and it even started snowing! ❄️), it is THE most fun day of the year! Thank you for loving our animals and joining Team Stray Rescue, thank you to the bars who braved the crowds and poured drinks all day and all night, and thank you to our staff and volunteers who were slinging sweatshirts the night before and the day of, and of course a HUGE thank you to the 12 Bars team for being so absolutely amazing year after year (special shout out to Emily Savage!). 12 Bars is just about as big as Mardi Gras lately!!

We cannot wait until next year! If you missed it this year, you DEFiNITELY don't want to miss it next year!

Yes, we're still on our rescue freeze and taking in emergencies only!!
We had a great weekend with adoptions and fosters, but we need another great weekend. We're hosting another emergency foster class and emergency matchmaking sessions this weekend, updates to come!!

This is El Paso. He was scared to death, huddled on Hwy 70. Highway rescues are our absolute LEAST favorite. So many things can go wrong as cars fly by so fast. But we were able to get El Paso off the highway and into the Jeep. He slept for about two days straight. He had some wounds, scabs, and scars, but thankfully nothing too serious. He's just about all healed up now and ready for a home.
Imagine being rescued from the highway (thank god) and then going into a crate in a noisy room with dogs barking. The fact that he's safe is what matters, but he's very ready to relax before the cold comes this week!

Please let us know if you can help!

HANDSOME!!
That's not his name, it's actually Gorgonzola. But he'll go by "Good Lookin'" or 'Cutie Pie," too!
Gorgonzola is a super good boy. He's 3 years old, athletic and lean at 40ish pounds, and ready to get out of here and go home! He's dog friendly and super delightful. He hasn't met a human he doesn't love! He lovessss to play with other dogs. He's a hugger with his human friends. He is so athletic he'll accidentally use his doggy friends as hurdles during play time LOL.
When he sees one of 2-legged or 4-legged friends coming, he does this super cute jump-in-place and it's very impressive! And makes us feel special 🥰
Let us know if you're interested in fostering or adopting Gorgonzola. He's waiting for you! Cassady is covering his adoption fee (and all dogs/cats over 6 months old this month!)
