Sweet Warrior Boy Spartacus came in for his 2nd and 3rd heartworm treatments this week. Our heart hurts that he has to endure this on top of everything he's already been through, but as usual, he was a wonderful patient and SO EXCITED to see all of his friends, doctors, and nurses. He went through it like a champ.

We would love to take this opportunity to remind everyone that heartworm is absolutely no fun. It is very expensive to treat, it very hard on your dog, takes MONTHS to get through it, and yet it is 100% preventable. Heartworm disease is carried by mosquitos, and your dog can get it from a single bite. So no dog is safe, especially during St. Louis summers. So get your pups on monthly preventative. We PROMISE the cost of preventative is worth it!! Cross our heart.
Every 2 in 5 dogs we rescue suffer from heartworms. It is extremely common and let us reiterate it one more time - it is so hard on your dog and so expensive for your wallet. Treatment is more than a thousand dollars! 😳

THOSE ears belong to Barley!
Barley is a 10 year old girl, 47 pounds, and very sweet. She's been in a home all of her life, so the noisy shelter is quite scary. Especially because she prefers to be your only dog. So coming back to the shelter after a life in a home, and having dogs barking on both sides of her is so nerve-wracking. But she's so sweet, so kind. She is easy to leash up, good on walks, and great in the car. She LOVES getting out of here, and is so thankful to our volunteers who have been taking her places so she can breathe deeply and be herself. Please let us know if you're interested in adopting or fostering our darling Barley girl! Delmar Gardens Family will cover her adoption fee!

One year ago today our clinic patient, Tuscany, was soooo skinny and fighting for her life. She LOVED attention and we found out quickly she didn't mind dressing up - in fact, she loved it. One year later she's having a wonderful life. She's adopted, she's a part of a pack, and she's loved. She prances around in little dresses, gets to sleep on a lap, and is spoiled in her golden years. She's 13 now and thriving!

Happy 4th of July everyone! Have fun, be safe, and remember - today is our pets' least favorite holiday. So let's keep our best friends safe! The best way to do that is **bring them in tonight.**

This sweet girl needs a loving foster home!
Meet Woosley, 9 months old and 32 lbs.
She came to us with a big swollen head and facial wounds. Someone hit her with something, ugh. She was found tied up to a street sign. Thanks to a Good Samaritan who pulled over, untied her, and called for help, this sweetheart is healed and ready to leave us. She's an angel and will NEVER be abused EVER again. EVERRRRR.
Woosley is very playful and dog friendly, too! And cuddly. She's wonderful.
Let us know if you can scoop her up!

Oh my goodness, this poor little one just came to us from another shelter who couldn't help her medically. What looks like burns on the back of her head is actually mange, and she's scratched it absolutely raw. It's infected and so painful for her. We'll get her on antibiotics, pain meds, medicated shampoo, and help her begin healing. We cut her long, curly nails, wrapped her up like a baby, and Dr. Ortiz comforted her and told her she's going to be okay now. She's just 1 years old, what a sad year she's had! We promise life is better than this, little baby!
We named her Elisa. Please sign up to give $19.99/month to help Elisa and so many others coming in every single day! Strayrescue.org/1999

We are very excited to introduce Dr. Ortiz to everyone!
Dr. Ortiz joins our incredible medical team as our first-ever "Community Veterinarian." We have lots of great plans coming and can't wait to share them with you! Adding Dr. Ortiz to our life-saving team, along with Dr. Oliver and Dr. Schulz (who you all know well), is going to help us change the game in St. Louis. We hope to offer low cost spay/neuter and expand our Shelter In Place (SIP) Program. Of course we save the injured, the wounded, and our city's most vulnerable animals, but being able to help more families keep their pets at home, loved, and healthy is essentially going to keep more animals out of shelters and keep more families together. Stay tuned for exciting announcements coming later this summer! ☀
Please consider signing up to give $19.99/month. With your support, we will continue to push the line and make St. Louis a far more compassionate city. There is LOTS of room to grow and so many more ways we can help. This is just the beginning. Strayrescue.org/1999
