Jemma using the hose to floss her teeth.
Jemma gently gnawing on my ear
As we showed in a couple of videos with Jemma over the past year, teaching bite inhibition to a single puppy can be especially hard because they donât have other pups showing them how it feels.
At 1 year old, we are proud to show Jemmaâs âadultâ bite inhibition. It took a LOT of redirection, yelling Ow! Ow! Ow!, and/or leaving the enclosure to teach her in a gentle, patient manner but the system works.
Hand feeding is an excellent way to develop a deep trust bond with a wolfdog and it also teaches them that human hands are not competition. Jemma had 7 chicken quarters this morning, check out that belly!
We have clearance from Stafford zoning to officially open for tours and classes. We created Lupine Grove so more people can learn the truths about wolfdogs first-hand but please understand, that does not mean petting zoo or entertainment for your family. We donât breed, foster, adopt, or rescue wolfdogs but as an IRS-approved 501c3 educational nonprofit, we use our personal pets as a way to show others how to raise this type dog happy and safe. If you are legally an adult and genuinely interested to learn about our earliest versions of a domestic dog and compare that to what 20,000+ years of living with humans has done to todayâs dogs, we would like to share our wolfdog knowledge with you. Please reach out to us by Private Message with your specific interest in wolfdogs and veterans, police officers, animal control officers, county government, state government, veterinarians, veterinarian technicians, or other canine professionals that may come in contact with wolfdogs should let us know that as well.
Each one of our eight wolfdogs has a different way of showing affection and as youâll see in this video, Marley likes to rub his face on ours.
Jethro dug up this rotting cow femur bone after letting it marinade in the ground until it was good and stinky. I wouldnât hold it for him but Cindy Holmes Grove saved his feelings with a spare chicken-feeding glove she found in her coveralls pocket while Sassy was checking mine.

This is John posting.
The older Jemma gets, the more sheâs turning into Cindyâs lapdog. She was on Cindyâs lap for at least 10 minutes before this video and as always, Jemma climbed up by choice. We love how she is turning out because she absolutely adores human contact.
For educational purposes, please pay attention to Jemmaâs excellent bite inhibition at only five months. Wolfdogs are VERY mouthy but by mimicking another puppy and squealing loudly in their face if they bite too hard, all eight of our wolfdogs now think human skin is as delicate as paper. It takes patience and lots of bandaids but it works without injecting any forms of dominance or discipline that the puppy doesnât naturally understand.
