K9 Taz wanted to remind everyone about the "Dog Days of Summer" and provide some tips to keep your dog cool and safe on hot days:
Provide shade - Set up a shaded area in your yard with a comfortable bed or kiddie pool for your dog to rest in. Shade is essential to prevent heatstroke and keep your dog comfortable.
Provide water - Make sure your dog has access to cool, clean drinking water at all times. In the summer, water can evaporate quickly, so check on your dog's water bowl often. If you're walking your dog, bring a water bottle or flexible bowl to give them plenty of water.
Wet your dog down - Wetting your dog down before, during, and after walks can help prevent overheating because dogs don't sweat like humans do.
Avoid hot surfaces - Dogs have sensitive feet that can burn or get injured on hot surfaces like concrete or sand.
Provide other cooling items - You can also try giving your dog frozen treats, an ice pack, a cooling mat, or a wet towel to lay on. You can buy frozen dog treats at the grocery store or make your own pupsicles. You can also try using a cooling collar or vest.
Avoid the heat
Try to avoid exercising your dog on hot days and stay out of the midday heat.
Never leave your dog in the car
Even with the windows down, the temperature inside a car can rise quickly and lead to heatstroke or death.
