Visited one of our favorite guys at Stamford Animal Control & Care Center
ENZO is truly an amazing dog, and we are very surprised that he hasn’t been snatched up yet.

He walks beautifully on the leash and knows his basic commands. He is very food driven. It would be so much fun to teach him tricks- he’s soooo smart. Enzo is a loyal friendly dog and seems ‘dog social’ as well.

If you are interested in Enzo, please contact the shelter or reach out to us. We are hopeful that this beautiful boy will be adopted very soon🤞🏻

As the weather begins to get nicer and you take your kiddos to a local pond or lake to feed the ducks and geese, please keep this bit of info in mind.🙏🙏🙏
Another FYI
Feeding bread causes permanent damage to ducks and geese. They develop angel wing. They can not migrate or fly to avoid predators. PLEASE DO NOT FEED BREAD to ducks and geese. Cracked corn, corn, peas, mealworms, romaine lettuce, watermelon, grapes CUT into pieces, cantaloupe……are a few good options!

🚨 Hot Summers Means Hot Pavement!

Did you know that asphalt and sidewalks can heat up higher than the air temperature? Here's a quick test: hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your dog's paws! 🐾

Tips to Keep Your Dog's Paws Safe:

✅ Walk earlier or later in the day when it's cooler.
✅ Use Paw Protection: Dog booties can protect their pads.
✅ Walk on the grass instead of the pavement.
✅ Check your dog's paws daily for signs of irritation.
✅ Try indoor enrichment games.
✅ Opt for activities in or near water, like swimming or walking along a creek.

Keep those paws safe and happy! 🌅🌿🐶

💥 FIREWORK SEASON IS HERE 💥

⭐️ Walk your dog early in the day, tire them out.

⭐️ Keep your pets home and indoors. Do not bring your pets outside during fireworks even in fenced in yards.

⭐️ Provide your pet a quiet safe space.

⭐️ Keep soothing music or tv on.

⭐️ Distract them with their favorite toys or treats. A kong stuffed with peanut butter or frozen yogurt to keep them busy.

⭐️ Make sure you outfit your dog with collar and ID. Make sure your microchip information is up to date.

⭐️ Take updated photos of your pet. Full body shot and face. Should the worst happen.

⭐️ Startled frightened dogs are known to jump through screen windows and porches.

BE PREPARED, LETS KEEP THEM SAFE !!

For PET OWNERS that take their dogs to lakes and creeks, please read this warning from Morgan & Patrick Fleming.

This morning we thought, it’s so hot! Let’s go to the lake! We took our sweet Arya to the lake and had the best day playing ball and swimming around! About 30 minutes later on the drive home, we noticed her making weird noises and she threw up and pooped in the car. We called our vet on the drive and they suggested we take her in. By this point our girl couldn’t even stand. They told us she was in critical condition so we took her to the ER. By the time we got there, she was brain dead. Today was absolutely awful. We lost our fun, loving, and crazy girl to what we can only assume was a lake toxin such as blue green algae. Arya, no dog will ever replace you in our hearts. We already miss you more than you could know. I hope you’re running around like a wild girl with all the other boarder collies in doggo heaven ♥️

The last few months have been very challenging for us at ACC. Every day, we have struggled with no open kennels for incoming dogs, and when one dog leaves to go to a home or into foster, their kennel is immediately filled with a new dog from our intake area. We've also had multiple litters of puppies coming through our doors. Dogs in crates line the hallways and offices.

In the past 19 days, over 800 new animals have come in to ACC. This includes 517 cats, 253 dogs, 39 rabbits and guinea pigs and hundreds of other animals that all require care and support from our dedicated team. This is in addition to the 800 animals already in our care at the start of the month. We are asking for your help to get through these summer months. Here is how you can get started today:

Adopt - We have hundreds of pets that are available for adoption today. Adoption fees start at $25 and include vaccinations, microchips and spay/neuter surgeries.

Foster - Taking a pet or a litter of kittens into your home temporarily will help us save lives by opening up new kennels for incoming pets. You can find out more information on our website: https://www.nycacc.org/foster/

Help Lost Pets Get Back Home: If you find a stray pet, help them get back home by walking through the neighborhood, posting their photo to , and taking steps to get them back to their families before bringing them to the shelter. Visit https://www.nycacc.org/services/lost-and-found/ to learn about how to help lost pets get back home.

Donate: All of these pets need supportive care through sheltering, staffing, medicine, and so much more. Your donations go straight toward the care of the hundreds of pets that have come to our shelter in the past 19 days.

Our handsome boy Rylo is back at our shelter but of no fault of his own. Rylo needs an experienced owner that is wiling to take the time out to train him. He can get overly excited at times and pulls on leash but takes correction well. Rylo is super food motivated and will do just about anything for a treat. He will thrive in a home with an experienced owner, no cats and older children.

Wow, a record. Glad you made your pet safer.https://conta.cc/45D81kX

Warning: Heat Advisory Info

It has been 30 years since we have had this kind of prolonged high temperatures like we will experience this week!

Dogs with congestive heart failure, other heart diseases, respiratory diseases, obesity and all short-nosed dogs should be on high alert.

When the humidity is high, combined with high temps, these dogs cannot cool themselves as well and can quickly succumb to the heat.

PLEASE stay safe out there!
🙏❤️🐾

06/21/2024

☀️Heat warning this week, summer is here!☀️
Dogs and cats cool off primarily by panting - not by sweating and their systems can become overwhelmed quickly. Even with the windows cracked, the inside of a car can heat up to life threatening temperatures dangerously quick. Please leave your furry friends at home now that the temperatures have risen.

06/21/2024

Be aware of risk of heat stroke in dogs with the severely warm temperatures we are having !!
