Last Walk & Train with Walter today and he’s graduating with a big walk around Downtown Stamford! Walter used to bark at EVERYTHING out on walks, but today we saw EVERYTHING and Walter didn’t bark once or even acted like he wanted to bark. I was so proud of him!
Through a mix of Private Sessions and Walk & Trains, Walter has really made a complete turn around. Although I will miss him, I couldn’t be happier that Walter walks so happy and comfortably now on-leash. Yay Walter!🐾♥️

Practicing your front door routine, like Archie here, is SUPER important when training your puppy! It helps your puppy learn Impulse Control: the impulse to run our the door, the impulse to jump on your guests, the impulse to bark like crazy and so much more.
You don’t just want to practice opening and closing the front door though with no one there and sometimes having a real person behind the door is just too hard at first for some puppies, so practicing with “imaginary people” behind the door is really a great baby step to help your puppy get to the next level of this technique. By practicing this technique, you’ll also notice how your puppy has already picked up on specific words and phrases you say when you answer the door that get them excited because they know that means a person is ACTUALLY behind the door. To help, just like in this video where we pretend Archie’s NoNo (grandpa) is behind the door, this technique will also help your puppy learn how to Control their Impulses better when they hear these specific words. Keep up the great work Archie!🐾♥️

I always love to post videos demonstrating how to utilize different Interactive Dog Toys to keep your pups busy when the weather gets bad. Seeing me interact with both Goliath and Marcelo is also a great way to see how I deal with two dogs with very different personalities 😂. Enjoy!❄️🐾♥️

The Gentle Leader Head Harness is an amazing harness that utilizes instinctual pressure points on our dogs to give owners the best control, deter pulling the best as well as help you dig feel calmer when out on walks. It isn’t easy for all dogs to transition to this harness so by practicing fun and easy exercises, like Kismet is doing in this video, the harness is seen as more positive than negative!🐾♥️

Benji loves his Private Agility Sessions!
I love to promote the mental stimulation, confidence building and relationship strengthening effects of agility, but I’m sure Benji’s parents would promote how tired Benji is after only a 30 minute session, the special time he gets now that they just had a baby and how much fun Benji has throughout the session!
Find out more about my Private Agility Sessions on my website samiamdwandt.com 🐾♥️

Tuck is a 2 year old rescue beagle who spent the first two years of his life in a crate. I can’t believe not just how friendly and social he is, but how well he is picking up commands already! Tuck proves that for dogs, it really is never too late. Keep it up Tuck! 🐾♥️

Leave It is such an important command, but it can take a lot of training to really help your dog fully learn the command. Working with leashes, like we are with Kismet in this video and practicing with all different types of objects, is just one way to help train and strengthen the command Leave It. Keep up the great work Kismet!🐾♥️

Notice how throughout this video Walter “Checks In” with me by glancing at me every now and then. I don’t reward him all the time for this behavior because I don’t want him to think it’s a game, but I do reward him every now and then because “Check Ins” are very important. The most important part about “Check ins” though, is that it tells you your dog still has you on his mind and is still somewhat focused on you outside where there are a lot of other things to pay attention to and be distracted by. Great job Walter! Keep up the good work!🐾♥️

Stay is one of the most important commands to teach your puppy, so make sure you work on it and keep strengthening your dogs knowledge of this command like Maisy is here in this video. Great job Maisy!🐾♥️

Front door routines are so important for pups! It gives your dog a specific job to always do as well as helps them learn Impulse Control!
Sadie is a very active dog so this wasn’t easy for her, but I’m so proud with how she never gave up and eventually started to really get it. Great work Sadie!🐾♥️

The most common harness I usually recommend is a “front clip” harness and it always brings such joy when I see its immediate results. The week before Biscuit was not able to walk with his “sisters” because he pulled too much and it was very difficult to have control over him. As soon as this harness was on, Biscuit walked completely different and this walk was immediately possible. Great work Biscuit! Keep up the good work!🐾♥️

Utilizing the command STAY to help teach Walter and Bailey to take turns is important because this helps decrease both dogs trying to eat the others reward as well as teaches both dogs that they are equals and therefore decrease any instinctual “sibling rivalry.” Keep up the hard work Walter and Bailey! 🐾♥️

When you have a puppy like Sadie who would rather be doing anything else than just staying still, rewarding staying still even just for a second, will help her start to see that maybe staying still isn’t so bad. As Sadie gets better as Stay for just a second, we can start challenging her with a couple seconds, than a few, than several, than A LOT etc etc. Keep up the great work Sadie!🐾♥️

Harlem’s getting pretty good at Stay so I wanted to challenge her more by having her owners see if she could hold her Stay while walking around her in a circle. Going behind a dogs back, especially a herding dogs back, can he very difficult because they always want to be with their owner/shepherd!
Due to it being so tough, I taught her owners how to break it down into baby steps so that Harlem can strengthen her knowledge of the command in a fun, positively motivating way. Keep up the great work Harlem! 🐾♥️

Summer gets so excited to greet people at the door. We know Summer knows the commands Sit & Stay, but is just too excited to be able to focus. This is why I like to show my owners how to break these types of scenarios down so that they are easier to practice: like first being able to hold a Sit & Stay while most jiggles the door k**b. Keep up the practice Summer!🐾♥️

10/18/2023

As you can see Maisy is working very hard learning the command Touch! When working with such young pups, I always focus more on keeping the learning process stress free and fun because that’s what’s going to help build focus and motivation as they get older. Keep up the hard work Maisy!🐾♥️
