The yearlings got their first exposure to a spray bottle today and took it like champs! Thoroughly enjoying working with these babies #lovethislife #horses #yearling

Here’s a few cuts from the first ground driving session with Kid, a 2 year old gelding I’ve had in training for a few weeks. We’ve been riding him for a little while now and he’s been a joy to work with. I can definitely say that when I take them back to the ground just to test and refine them that it’s one of my favorite things, especially when it goes as smoothly as this!
A lot of people talk about groundwork these days like it’s some “hip” thing to do…lunging mindless circles, just physically wearing out the horse before you get on and I’ve been guilty of it along my path as well. But over the years I’ve learned to not over use groundwork, I definitely make sure I can move my horses feet before I throw a saddle on, and make sure I can safely move them once they are saddled before I throw a leg over. I also go back to the ground before I use two hands from their back and teach them what that feels like in a controlled environment where they have time to process and will continue to go back to this periodically with them throughout their first few months to keep them as soft as possible.
We are finally putting the goats to use.
Spring is in the air and beautiful riding weather is on the horizon. I have spots available for 2 year old performance prospects as well as limited space for tune ups and problem solving. Sent me a text or give me a call to book your spot. (479)207-4074
Cow pens are coming along and are currently being used for turnouts for the 3 year olds. No more cold weather freshness, hopefully. 😅🤠 Soon as they are finished the arena will be going up. 💪🏼💪🏼
I couldn’t resist the temptation to take the bridle off Goose the other night. He’s been doing so well lately, super proud of this little 2 year old. I can’t wait to watch him blossom through his 3 year old year!! 💪🏼🤠
When you don’t have lights over your flag this time of year you gotta make sure your two year olds are broke. #nightride #2yearold
I haven’t jumped on the challenge bandwagon until now. So let’s get it.

Sugar sure has come a long ways from a terrified little rescue horse. This little CD Olena filly is gonna make a great sorting horse and I can’t wait to watch her continue her career.
This is her first time working the flag and I couldn’t be more proud of how she’s progressed over the last few months.
It’s been waaaaayyyy too long since I’ve swung a leg over this boy. He had a major accident two years ago and lost a bunch of weight during the vetting and healing process. Finally at 21 years young I was honored to get to start light exercising my old man again. 😇🥰
One thing I’ve always loved doing with young horses is laying them down. There’s just something about it that builds trust in a way you can’t any other way. Laying down is the most vulnerable position a horse could ever be in, and for this little filly who was untouched and terrified of the world a few months ago to allow me to walk completely around her while laying down without anyone holding her is HUGE!!
Sugar is coming along really nicely. Today was her first experience with the “floating tarps” while under saddle and she took it like a champ. She’s really gonna make a nice sorting horse!
I never did introduce this little filly, so meet Sugar. When she got here a couple months ago she was absolutely terrified of the world, she wasn’t halter broke and her owners had only been able to touch her a couple times. We’ve been using a saddle horse to help her gain her confidence and her first few rides were being ponied beside a saddle horse. Sunday was her first ride alone and she did amazing!
Her rider had never ridden a horse until he came here, he’s a marine veteran so he’s tough as nails but is good at taking direction. I wouldn’t normally put someone on a filly like this the 3rd time they’ve ridden a horse, but these two really clicked. He’s been dedicated to helping me with this filly and is also helping me prepare to open an equine program specifically for #veterans ‼️ If you’re interested in checking it out or donating to help us get started with fixing up some mobile homes head over to Freedom Acres Equine it’s just a startup so anything helps!
Goose and I got to spend a few days this week riding with my former boss. He got to experience several new things, seeing cattle, working the mechanical cow and here is a video of his first time being ridden one handed and having a rope swung around him. I’m really happy with the progress this colt has made over the last couple months.
Learned a new trick from a fellow trainer and had to give it a shot. One lesson yesterday on it and Miss Hannah is almost a pro at it today! Man, does this trick come in handy!?!
Joey’s Transformation part 3
I have been blessed with the opportunity to continue Joey’s training for the next 30 days! We have been taking it slow to ensure he retains what he is being taught, and it has definitely been the best option for him! As the great Pat Parelli says “take the time it takes to take less time.” Rarely do we have to start back over on an exercise. This handsome fella has been an absolute joy to work with! Please feel free to comment and share!
