Not all working breeds necessarily "work" but sometimes these very smart dogs can require a little extra stimulation to feel settled. What can you do to help your working breed dog (or any breed dog) settle their busy brain?
We highly recommend puzzle feeders, and interactive toys, such as lick matts and snuffle matts. Another great option is scent work, you can find scent sticks online or in your local sporting stores; mark the scent around your home and reward your dog with a treat when they find it.
Even dogs not bred for a job can enjoy agility work! You can create homemade jumps and obstacles for them to work around in your yard, or look online for sets sold!
All this aside, even 10-15 minutes a day of basic training can be enough to keep your pups mind sharp and steadfast! Keep in mind temperature when exercising outside, we encourage evening outing's to avoid temps too high and hot.

Mostly we do many spays, neuters, dental cleanings and extractions, mass removals and other soft tissue surgeries. On occasion we welcome outside surgeons to come and care for more advanced hip and knee repairs.

As your pet ages you may notice small changes over time that don’t cause alarm, but over time these small changes can cause a big impact. Did your pet use to run and now they walk? Did they use to climb stairs swiftly, or jump with gusto onto the couch, but now they find comfort closer to the ground? This can be a sign of arthritis, a common cause of slowing down in senior pets. We have the solution to decreasing discomfort and pain in your pet; consider talking to your Veterinarian about Solensia for cats or Librela for canines!
These products are a once-monthly injectable monoclonal antibody therapy, which helps reduce canine or feline osteoarthritis pain. It is metabolized and eliminated like naturally occurring antibodies, with minimal involvement of the liver or kidneys. We have heard great feedback from our clients with patients on these products. Canine influenza, or “dog flu,” is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can be passed from dog to dog. It typically starts with a cough and can be mistaken for the more common and well-known Bordetella. In some cases, canine influenza can progress to pneumonia.

Learn how to prevent your pet from getting sick, and contact your VCA veterinarian if your dog shows signs or symptoms.

Puppies are absolutely adorable, sweet and small, but come with big responsibilities and amounts of effort! If you’re thinking about adopting or purchasing a puppy there are some things we’d recommend prepping and preparing for!

Puppies require consistency and constant care, it’s important to provide your puppy ample opportunities to go outside for potty breaks; redirect teething onto toys; positively encourage basic obedience; get your puppy use to having their limbs, ears, mouth and feet handled regularly, and engage in enrichment as often as possible; be that mental stimulation, playing and using puzzle toys, and/or physical exertion. It’s important your puppy be appropriately socialized with people, and other dogs (once vaccinated) so they build confidence and feel calm in a variety of environments.

Puppies need supervision as to not get into trouble with trash, chewing on things they shouldn’t be, and eating inappropriate items; puppies are experts at getting into so many sneaky shenanigans. We’d recommend crate training your puppy so they have a safe space to retreat to and are kept out of mischief overnight or when home alone; this will also help them feel more comfortable while kenneled here; or at a boarding facility, should they ever have the need.

Your puppy will need to be fed an age and size appropriate diet, usually 3 meals a day is recommended while they are little, then merge into two meals as they become bigger. Your puppy will likely need to visit us several times over the first few months of their life, to make sure they are fully vaccinated, de-wormed, provided preventatives, and protected!
