The time is here!
It is Gnat Bite Season...
Often, these are "grass gnat" (also called black fly) bites. These biting insects emerge and create worrisome bite marks on dogs. The bites usually appear on the belly or groin area where there is less fur. The bites are red, round, and flat to the skin. Many dog owners notice small (less than 1 inch diameter), bullseye patterned marks on the underside of their dog. There may be just one or several. These marks are often caused by a species of gnat that emerges from the grass and bites the dog, they are harmless bites and require no treatment. They are unrelated to the "bullseye" that people can get associated with Lyme disease. They bother the owner but not the pet, i.e., are rarely itchy.
👉Please text or email us a picture so we can confirm that is is a gnat bite.

May is Arthritis Awareness month
Here are the signs of arthritis in your pet to watch for:

👉Increased sleep or rest: Pets with arthritis may sleep or rest more than usual due to the discomfort caused by stiff, painful joints.

👉Weight gain: Arthritis can limit a pet’s mobility, leading to less exercise and subsequent weight gain.

👉Limping: Pets may start limping due to the pain in their joints.

👉Poor grooming in cats: Cats with arthritis may have difficulty grooming themselves properly.

👉Reluctance to jump or climb stairs: Pets may avoid activities that put pressure on their joints, such as jumping or climbing stairs.

👉Licking or biting the skin over a sore joint: Pets may lick or bite at the area of the body that’s causing them pain.

If you notice these signs in your pet, it’s important to consult with a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis and treatment options. Remember, early detection and treatment can help manage the symptoms and improve the quality of life for pets with arthritis.

WORLD BOOK DAY
Reading offers a multitude of advantages! It serves as a practice tool for children’s literacy, fosters compassion towards animals, and aids in the socialization of our beloved pets. For adults, it provides education, strikes a chord with our experiences, and occasionally transports us to realms that lie well outside the scope of our imagination.
