What started out as a way to better clean my own personal skulls with out boiling them soon turned into a hobby. That hobby has since turned into a passion.

Watching these dermestid beetles work so quickly and efficiently is simply amazing!
It's been a while since we posted but don't let that fool you! We are still keeping our little helpers well fed with an abundance of Bucks and Does! We are still accepting and processing skulls. So if you would like to have a cheaper alternative to a standard shoulder mount to remember your hunt by then reach out to us and let us help you keep those memories alive with a beautiful European Mount!

Finishing up the last of the bucks from this season. 3 that are not pictured are in the bugs or being Whitened. We had an abundance of large deer brought in this year which were a blast to work on! I would like to thank each and every person who has worked with us through this past season. Covid gave me a bit of a hiccup where we were down for almost a month. But thanks to everyone's patience we are just about done just in time for the next season to start!
Sorry for the lack of content! We have been busy this season, not only here in the shop but with other life endeavors as well! Here a few of the latest projects we have been working on. Other than whitetail deer we have also had an opportunity to work on a hog from out west as well as a Jacob's Sheep for a special project! We have a few more left in the shop from this past year yet and we are close to wrapping it up until next season.

Yesterday afternoon I had the honor and the privilege to speak to the youthful minds and their teachers about what we do here at Bare Bones. There were great questions and amazing discussions that were had. I think the kids and teachers had an amazing time getting to pick up and inspect all the skulls and fur and most importantly broaden their knowledge!
A special thanks has to be given to Mr. Prusinowski, for giving my contact information to Mr. Pragle, and Mrs. Coolbaugh and making this happen!
Year after year Chris has sent us in a buck for our bugs to feast upon. Along with being a return customer he has also brought other people to us, with deer and this year a bear. This year is no different. Each animal has its own story just like each hunt has its own. Making each harvest special in its own right. If you are looking to keep those special memories around have your trophy processed correctly. Longevity is the name of the game when it comes to those memories. A few south western fowl fresh out of the whitening. Our good friend sent us a few ducks to be cleaned up before heading overseas for the Air Force. I think they are looking pretty good! Time to let them dry and then they will fly once more where they will be awaiting his return stateside! Thanks for all you do Kevin, and we wish you and yours are doing well!
Pork is on the menu for our beetles tonight! This big ole sow was taken last year. And is a first for us here! So we are almost as excited to process this our customer is to have it done!
Something is a little fishy around here!
So its been a while and we are still working on the last of this past seasons skulls. Not too long ago I went out with a shoulder surgery, so a few of these had to be put on the back burner. But now that I have more than 1 arm to work with, (it's like 1 1/4, but still better than 1) here are a few that are near completion, plus a small side project that the wife and I did with a coyote skull of mine and some succulents. With that we are near completion of all of our customer skulls. We have one more finishing in the bugs and one in the degreasing stage. And we are looking forward to this next year's season already!

Congrats Ricky on your first buck and first deer! We have had lots of first time hunters in the woods this past season. And hopefully they continue to enjoy the pleasures of the hunting world!
A little late but hopefully everyone had a safe and happy holiday! We have been keeping the beetles busy with a few deer. And we finished a beautiful black bear skull!
A few first time bucks and a few from seasoned hunters. Reguardless of size a trophy is as unique as the hunter! Congrats to all that have harvested their trophies this season!

Its never too late to bring that buck/bear/coyote (or whatever!) thats been sitting next to your garage in. You know that your wife has asked you about 100 times what you are doing with it. Bring it in we can get em cleaned up for ya!

Bear is coming along quite nicely! And almost time for a degreasing bath. We had a NY Archery Buck dropped off to us tonight as well Lots of work these beetles have!
The dead head is looking good! Time to untape and get some vitamin D going! The young man that found this is going to be pleasantly surprised when gets this gift!
So we are working on a time-lapse video. It is being taken in multiple segments. The first segment is done.... it contains roughly 10000 images and is roughly 4 minutes long. It consists of the first 8 hours of time the bear head has been in with the bugs. I moved the camera closer for the next segment as the original was a little distanced.
New project came in today. A New York State Archery Black Bear!
Working on some small game skulls. A few raccoon and a fox. These animals were harvested last trapping season and kept frozen which is highly important. Freezing these skulls prevents unwanted insects into our colonies which could carry mites. These mites would be detrimental to our demented beetles. So remember always freeze your skulls before bringing them to your taxidermist if you plan on getting a European mount!
Tonight we put the last buck from last years harvest into whitening, as well as a dead head that was found mid summer by a young man and his grandfather.....shhhh its a Christmas present 🎁!!

Tonight I was honored to go and talk to the young men at Troop 44, in Penn Yan, NY about my business. These young men were full of energy and questions and showed some real interest in my passion. They were able to get their hands on some skulls, mostly fur bearers, and a couple of deer, and look at the intricacies of what makes up all of these amazing animals. I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did. It was truly a honor being able to get up in front of the troop and discuss what we here at Bare Bones Skull Cleaning is all about! Thanks again Troop 44! We are seeing a lot of deer being taken already and it is only the 3rd day of the southern zone bow season! Congrats to all those who have been able to get an early harvest. There are a lot of first time hunters out there as well and welcome to the best group of people in the world! We love to make memories while afield, and what better way to remember those memories than to have an awesome conversation piece! Give us a shout if you would like to have a Euro done!
Hopefully all is going well with everyone! It has been a very rough year so far, but things are looking up! Its hunting season after all!!
We are still rocking and rolling with a couple last heads from last year. But we are just about finished up! If you have any bear, deer, boar, coyote, fox, etc heads that you are looking to have done give us a jingle!
