Today I want to talk about a young lady who reached out to me a bit over a year ago. She was looking for a barn that would allow her to bring horses in to train. I have pretty strict requirements as far as what I consider appropriate training and treatment.
Tia Erdmann of Happy Hearts Horsemanship came by so we could chat and see if we would be a good fit.

She is delightful, open minded, willing to learn and has the horses best interest at heart.
Not many people are allowed to have access to my horses, especially when it comes to training. I don't trust easily, she works with 4 of my 6 expanding their world to include the woods and neighborhood. She has done wonders with the minis and Elora loves her mare Lacey and the time they spend in the woods.
She offers riding lessons, and training for both horse and rider.

Todays spot light is on in a hard working young lady.
In the last 2+ years we have done a lot of improvements to the property. New footing in the arena, each paddock has new gravel, the shop/stall area has new footing as well. We also had trailer parking created on the north side of the barn. One person did all the work, Abby Byers. She is a successful horse woman who competes at the highest level in the gaming arena. She specializes in horse properties, creating arenas(indoor & outdoor), paddocks, retaining walls, property maintenance etc.
I highly recommend her and her top notch work for projects large.and small.

Today I would like to tell you about the person that keeps my horses bodies aligned.

Monica Uruchurtu of www.cascadesherpas.com
Was recommended for saddle fitting. She came out to help a small group fit their horses properly to the saddles they had. I didn't know at the time she also did body work(structural integration), I honestly can't remember if she told me or if it was someone else. I realized that as much as chiro and acupuncture helped my Andalusian mare she needed more. I knew she had major issues with her pelvis and right hind. After Dr. Viv did her 3rd acupuncture session I had Monica come out and start working her magic. 3 sessions made all the difference in the world. She re-aligned her lumbar/sacral/pelvic area, her right shoulder was also messed up.
She has also put my Morgan gelding back together. "Concrete on fire" is how she described him. So much physical and emotional abuse held in a very tight, guarded body. I believe she did 5 sessions on him while Dr. Viv 6 acupuncture sessions. Between the 2 he is muuuuch happier and more comfortable.
She has fit saddles to both of them, the Morgan has been ridden a lot(not by me), the Andalusian is just starting that part of her new journey.
I am so thankful I reached out to her all those years ago, she is an amazing person and my horses are so much better off.

Hiking or Backpacking in the Mt. Baker Ranger District of the Cascade mountains will be effortless with Cascade Sherpas.

Todays spot light is on the team that is as important as the vet... my farriers.

Daphne Jones of The Bare Horse and her partner Andrea Champion are super stars. They keep my horses feet in great shape and make sure they stay healthy. The saying "no foot, no horse" is 1000% accurate. Changes in health show up in the feet, chronic issues will present in the feet. They do barefoot trimming, glue on shoes/boots, transition from shoes to barefoot and special needs maintenance.
A good farrier is so important, my club footed gelding is so much better off with Daphne in his corner, he requires glue on boots as soon as things start drying out. He has completely asymetrical feet, different sizes and shapes. He battles to stay sound and costs me a small fortune in maintaining his over all health(one of the reasons I work full time), without her he would be a pasture pet/therapy pony only. She is most definitely worth her weight in gold. As costs continue to rise(shockingly fast) I pray she doesn't decide to retire any time soon. GOOD Farriers are hard to come by!

Today I would like to talk about the team that keeps my horses healthy and sound. My life would be far more stressful(helicopter mom) without the cadre of vets at NW Vet Mt. Vernon.
I am so thankful for Viveka Rannala, Claire Tungseth, Chris Hanson and Jennifer Allen.
I have taken advantage of most of the services they offer, I haven't had Dr. Allen out for chiro but that's a matter of time.
The care, compassion and respect, not to mention their professionalism, is the best. The patience they have shown me and my challenged filly has been greatly appreciated. The life of any vet at this time is very difficult, large animal vets are even more taxed as clinics reduce services or eliminate ambulatory staff completely. It is heartbreaking the number of vets that have been lost to su***de due to crushing demand, emotional blackmail, falling numbers of new vets entering the field, and unrealistic expectations of clients(be that cost or outcome of treatment).
My greatest fear is losing these amazing people to emotional/physical burn out/exhaustion. I love my vets, I go out of my way to make sure they know they are appreciated. I caffinate, feed, treat, when I can.

I would like to highlight some of the services the barn uses on a regular basis.

Today I want to talk about the woman who has worked with my horses for the last 10 years.
Matney Cook of Hoofbeatattunement.
She started her training journey helping her mom, Terri Cook, work with horses on their farm. They got their Master Training Certificates from Ken McNabb, after years of working as a team at different barns Matney stepped out on her own. Her base was at her moms place working with a couple of horses at a time. This is when we started working together. She uses Equine Facilitated Learning as a starting point for new clients and it opened my whole world to new possibilities. She has certifications in several different equine therapy models- H.E.A.L, P.A.T.H and EFL as well as constantly honing her craft and learning as much about equine communication, learning patterns and herd health as she can.
She has changed my life and my horses lives in the best possible way.

She travels to train, has offered individual and group lessons at the barn. If you are looking for someone to work with your horse, I can't recommend her highly enough.

This isn't a post I wanted to make. However, it's time. As of this moment the arena is closed to haul ins and non-boarders. Training clients, Centered Riding participants and guests of boarders are still welcome. Thank you for your understanding.

We have done some upgrades including a parking lot on the North side of the barn. We needed more trailer parking and it made sense to have it done at the same time we graveled all the paddocks.

With the upgrades we have increased or parking fee to $10 per trailer. If the arena is used it's $10 per horse.

The Tree Farm is open as of today. Trailer parking is welcome on the North side of the barn. It's still wet enough that staying next to the road is best, getting stuck is a possibility otherwise.
We have a $5 parking fee, if you use the arena we charge a $10 haul in fee. There is a black box next to the stairs to the hay loft and envelopes/pen for giving us your license #.

Beginnings

I’ve had horses for 25 years. I boarded at a place in Monroe where the idea of having my own facility first took root. It took another 20 years for everything to fall into place to make it a reality.

We had the chance to purchase this farm 3 years ago. We have large paddocks, large stalls, and indoor arena that’s 60x130 and we are a short walk to the tree farm and thousands of acres of trails.

We treat each horse as if they are our own, blanketing, fly mask and fly spray as well customized feeding depending on needs. We feed owner supplied grain/supplements, alfalfa or timothy, or a combination of both.
