Happy Holidays from Ready to Ride

As our year comes to a close, we would like to thank you for being apart of the Ready to Ride Family! 2024 was a wonderful year packed with lessons, horse shows and special events. The dedication from our students,

support from parents and awesome horses makes us grateful everyday for the privilege to work in the equine industry. We have big plans for this next year and look forward to continuing our journey with you in 2025!

Our horses put their heads together and came up with their Christmas wish list! They promise they are on the nice list this year! If you would like to support our four legged teachers, click the button below to see what they want most!

Winter Weather

This time of year, the weather is unpredictable. In the event of extreme weather such as heavy rain, high winds, hail etc we may need to switch to unmounted lessons in order to keep everyone safe. Unmounted lessons will be skill appropriate, and range from blanketing horses, to showmanship, to video review!

Fingers crossed mother nature plays nice this Winter!

Cancellations: We do our best to avoid cancellations due to inclement weather. In the case that we do need to cancel, we will update as soon as possible to let you know. In the event of extreme weather (hail, wind, snow, smoke, freezing temperatures) we may have to cancel to keep everyone safe. We will text, email and post to our social media when this happens. Notifications will come through our billing program square, if you have opted out of our communications you may not receive our notifications. Please make sure to opt back in and check Facebook!

Billing: We are happy to try and reschedule lessons when there is availability, otherwise your credit due to weather will be applied to any camps, clinics, events, etc.

Winter Riding Attire: Layer up! The temperatures are dropping, we recommend wearing multiple layers as well as riding gloves. We ask that our riders wear their hair back, ideally in a ponytail or braid if long enough, and avoid baggy sweatshirts to prevent clothing and/or hair from getting hooked on tack or in the way of reins.

Please be sure that you are following our page for updates: facebook.com/readytoridetraining (https://www.facebook.com/readytoridetraining)

Billing updates

If you would like to join the quarterly billing, let us know by December 20th. This quarter will be January, February, and March. If you are on the quarterly billing you get $50 off!

During her time with Auburn she has helped them win three national championships, and seven five Southeastern Conference championships. During "Dedicated December" our team is focusing on personal development, goal setting, and dedication in their riding. This looks like an increased focus on equine body position, and building their partnership for next season as many of our riders level up!

Halloween Party

Join us October 19th from 4-6 pm for fun and spooky delights! The party will include a costume contest, apple bobbing, carnival style games, and much more! If you lease or own a horse feel free to dress them up, we can’t wait to see your creative attire!

Our monthly theme is......

Spooky Season!

For the month of October we will be focusing on desensitization for our horses! A horse's primary instinct to new stimuli is fear. This month we will be working with our riders and horses on overcoming their fears both in and out of the saddle.

What is something that makes you nervous when you ride? Maybe it is the departure to the lope, or maybe the wind gets your heart pumping. This month we will be putting our focus on working through those areas of difficulty to create more confident proficient equestrians.

Lesson Horse Spotlight...

The Draft Pick (Preston) - Preston is an up and coming member of Ready to Ride. Over the past year he has shown at CPHA Spin to Win in California, and the PtHA World Championship Show in Oklahoma. We are excited to welcome him into a larger role in the program this fall.

We want to feature YOU in our newsletter! Respond to this form bellow to be featured in the coming months. All students welcome, no matter if you have been riding for a few weeks or been part of the Ready to Ride family for years!

Equestrian Development

Trust and mutual respect are the foundation of any significant relationship between horse and human. We are one of the only predator prey relationships that exists, which when done well is an amazing thing to witness. This month as we dive into conquering our fears as riders and for our horses, it is crucial to acknowledge the foundational elements of our relationship with our horses that is necessary for success. Here at Ready to Ride we require all riders to participate in at least weekly lessons if not more. This build consistency for our clients, staff, and horses. When you work with the same animal every week you begin to read each others body language. This goes both ways, horses have exceptional long term memory and recognize human facial expressions. When we come into their space in a hurry, or with anger in our body language, they react. The same is true for us, we learn to read our horses and analyze their cues. Read more about how to desensitize your horse in this article from AQHA, the next time you are at the barn, talk to your instructor about how to build on your relationship with your equine partner!

Fall Schedule Update

We are working hard on our Fall Schedule. In order to accommodate after-school availability, we will be making adjustments and may have to combine private lessons. We appreciate your flexibility as we navigate this schedule change!

This month’s theme is…

Continuing Education

This month’s theme is continuing education! The kids are headed back to school and we are focused on ways to supplement your education both in and out of the saddle. On the road to mastery as a horseman, there are many tools that can be found off the back of a horse. We are fortunate to have many resources that can continue your education on riding techniques, training, horse care and much much more!!!

Watch for our latest launch of Barn Buddies this winter which will emphasize horse care and well rounded horsemanship.

Ask your trainer for articles, videos, or reputable sources that you can access outside of lessons to further your knowledge. It can be on a specific thing you’ve been working on while riding, or something about horses in general that you would like to understand better (tack/tacking, handling, showmanship, etc).

Here is a great place to start:

https://www.horseiq.com/

Will Douros, our dedicated, valued team member at Ready to Ride, has been diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma 3 cm by 3.5 cm on the right side of the brain. Brain surgery is needed in early October, which will be a big procedure. Difficulty with walking and balance are expected after surgery because of the location of the tumor, requiring extensive rehab over a period of months. As a community, we hope to come together to support Will’s recovery through this Silent Auction or via venmo -douros. Thank you for your support!

We are thrilled to share the latest news with all of our clients and friends—baby Nash Magee has arrived! Join us in congratulating Amanda and her family on their new little cowboy!

Lesson Horse Spotlight

This month’s featured lesson horse is Shiloh! Shiloh is a jack of all trades and a staple in our lesson program. From beginners to advanced riders, he can do it all with ease. He loves poles and bridges and is a trail extraordinaire in the arena.
