A New Endeavor
FUZZY BRITCHES FIBER·SATURDAY, MAY 11, 2019·
Fuzzy Britches Fiber is a small hobby farm located in Stanwood Washington. As a spinner, I was intrigued by the notion of raising my own fiber. We currently raise Blue Faced Leicester and Tunis Sheep along with Angora Rabbits. We strive to raise our animals on a small scale in a healthy setting. All of our animals are humanely raised,
and are first and foremost pets. They are lovingly cared for, and in return supply our small farm with fiber for spinning, compost for the garden, and hours of enjoyment. We work hard to advocate for these amazing animals, and all of the resources they can provide. Our dream is to build a viable fiber business using locally sourced wool, while providing a loving and forever home to the animals who have provided us with so much!

What’s on the wheel Wednesday:
A combination of Romeldale and angora rabbit. I had a bit of a learning curve with this new combination. However, it all settled in and I am excited to see the finished yarn.

Calling Local Fiber Farms!
Local wool is a beautiful asset for every community to have. Each individual fleece is truly special and tells a unique story. Buying wool locally not only helps to support a farm but also builds and strengthens the entire fiber arts community. We are happy to highlight our local farms and their wonderful fiber through our new “Local Wool Resource” project. The intention is to create an online source which enables local spinners and fiber artists to network with wool farms in their vicinity. If you are interested in being added to the “Local Wool Resource” list please email or message us with: farm name, location, contact info, breed info, what you provide (raw wool, roving, yarn, etc) and any additional information you would like to have provided.
Together let’s spin a brighter future for our local fiber arts community!

We have been all things angora the past week…so lets take a moment to highlight our Tunis sheep
Here are five facts about them:
1 - Tunis are a rare and endangered breed of sheep
2 - Lambs are born red. As they age their faces and legs remain red, but their fleece will turn ivory or cream colored
3 - Tunis came to America in the late 1700’s as a gift from the Ruler of Tunisia to the United States government
4 - The Tunis were brought to the brink of extinction during the civil war
5 - These sheep produce a versatile medium grade wool that can be used on its own or blended with other fibers
