All schools will start 2-hours late today due to ice and snow. While some roads may be clear of snow, ice, and slush, road crews are still clearing secondary streets — especially on Camano Island and in the Warm Beach area — to help make them safe and accessible for our buses.

All buses are operating on snow routes this morning. There will be no preschool and no out-of-district transportation.

All afterschool activities and athletic events will proceed as scheduled.

Please remember that during a two-hour late start, students need to add two hours to the time posted online for bus pick-up. Find bus route information on our Transportation webpage (https://www.stanwood.wednet.edu/departments/transportation), and find school start times on our School Hours webpage (https://www.stanwood.wednet.edu/about/calendar/school-hours).

For those driving, please exercise caution and allow for extra travel time this morning.

Secret’s out – construction along I-5 over Secret Creek near Stanwood is coming soon.

Over the next two years, we’ll remove the smaller, aging culverts (fish passage barriers) under both directions of I-5 and Old Highway 99 and install three new fish-approved bridge structures to enable safe fish and wildlife passage under the freeway and highway.

During construction, northbound and southbound I-5 will both shift over to a two-lane, temporary bypass along the mainline until the end of December 2025. This will bring I-5 in each direction from three lanes, down to two and decrease the speed limit in the area from 70 mph to 60 mph. In 2026, construction will switch over to Old Highway 99, which will be closed for part of the year and a detour will be in place.

Learn more about the project benefits and what to expect during construction, and submit your questions at the online open house here: https://engage.wsdot.wa.gov/i-5-secret-creek-fish-passage/

Downtown businesses like Pure Smoke NW BBQ & Catering are transforming thanks to the City's Storefront Improvement Program! Buildings are sporting fresh coats of paint, dated awnings and doors are being replaced and new signs are being installed. The program works by offering businesses up to $20,000 in matching grant funds to make exterior improvements to their buildings.

Just last winter, Pure Smoke NW received a $13,000 grant allowing Jim and Dan to restore the commissary kitchen to its 1950s origins and create a vibrant patio space for customers to enjoy year-round.

The city has $50,000 in available funding this year and encourages downtown businesses and property owners to apply. Read Pure Smoke’s success story at https://bit.ly/stanwoodsip and learn more about this exciting opportunity. By working together, we can create an economically robust and vibrant downtown.
