Got a tad distracted this week thanks to an amazing celestial event. Meanwhile on April 9th, the 2024 maple sugaring season came to a close. A record for us and the sugar makers at Shaker Maple - you rock Stevie and Stevo! 1,140 gallons of maple syrup this year for woo hoo!! 🙌 💥👏

2024 maple syrup production here just surpassed 2023 totals. Mother Nature sent winter our way again tho, temporarily shutting down the sap flow. No worries; it will be back!

we’ve been tracking annual natural events here on the farm since 1987…things like: peepers, wood frogs, fiddleheads and birds in the spring; bears, moose and otters in the summer; Canada geese formations and peak foliage in the fall; and frosts and snow fall in the winter. this morning the first of the spring birds arrived: grackles, red-winged blackbirds, American robins. earliest arrival yet 😳

with the cold temps this past week and weekend, we spent some time cleaning up the sugarwoods and getting some firewood. the temps are rising today tho and the sap will be flowing again shortly!

A week of bluebird days and 80 deg F temps, shut down the 2023 maple sugaring season and brought on spring. Last boil was April 13th. Season stats to follow soon.
