Hi everyone! Because of the weather coming in tomorrow, and because the schools are closed, we have decided to be closed tomorrow. ❄️

In other news, we got our freshwater shipment in! We are in the process of calling those who had special orders, but we will be open again on Saturday, so come check out what we have tonight before 8 PM or anytime Saturday from 12-8!

Rooney says “Welcome to my crib!”

At Reef and Leaf, we feed many different kinds of foods. Once or twice a week, the fish get a full-protein breakfast from different sources such as blood worms, beef heart, and shrimp! Having a quality, well-rounded diet for your aquatic friends is always recommended, keeping your fish healthy, happy, and extending their captive lifespan.
Many breeds take a rest after a big meal and this is Rooney’s favorite leaf to nap on after getting a belly full, complete with his snail friend to keep him company!
You may notice this even more after a feeding a food with a larger source of fatty content. Sometimes, you’ll see a boost of energy and they will be zooming around your tank with more activity when fed a protein-rich meal. All fish are different.

It is also important to make sure you are feeding the correct amount. If you see build-up at the bottom of your aquarium, you may be feeding too much. If your fish show signs of weight loss or a visible lateral line down their bodies, they may need more.

Fish are great pets whose needs are able to be read quite like any other pet. So, kick back, hang out with your fishies and watch their personalities come to life.

Rooney, in particular, has had quite a bit of experience with people and is happy to show off his long fins for people who come into the store. For those of our team with clean hands, he’ll even nuzzle up for a pet sometimes.

Hey Reef and Leafers! We just got a call from our fish distributor, and while our order has been processed, there is an artic storm headed towards our distributor’s center, so we will not recieve our order until sometime between Wednesday and Friday. We are very sorry for this wait, but we appreciate all of you for being patient and supporting our business. We will make a post once the order gets here, so keep an eye on our page!

If you did not have a special order with us, we will also be getting in a new freshwater stock and a large aquatic plant selection.

AND WE’RE BACK! (For real this time.) As a reminder, we are open 12-8 Monday-Saturday until January 12, when we will resume our usual hours.

We will be getting a new shipment of freshwater fish next week, so keep an eye out for that post! We do have a few newer plants in stock, as you can see here.

Thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes, as our team is still struggling to recover from this nasty virus.
We will be open this week from 5pm-8pm or until further notice.
Thank you, again, for all of your patience. It really takes each of us to make this business run smoothly and we appreciate every single one of you for supporting us since we opened. We are so proud to be able to bring the love of plants and aquarium creatures to our sweet town of Starkville.

Friends! We have officially been open for THREE MONTHS! 🎉🎉 What a whirlwind it’s been. We are so grateful for all of you. Come say hi, buy some fish or plants, or just hang out today with Taylor and Kati! We’ll be there from 12-8PM today. 🤗

It has been brought to our attention that some customers may have been by the store while we were closed during stated busienss hours.
Payden, one of our co-owners, is the person you will meet when you visit Reef and Leaf during the day on week days. During this time, she tries her best to pick her daughter up from school and make it back as quickly as possible to help you with all of your fish and plant purchases and questions. Because of the current road work, this takes more time than we would like.
We really appreciate your patience, as we are still in our soft opening stage and working to improve our schedule as we navigate appropriate hours amongst our team to best serve you.
If you have any questions or concerns, we would be glad to respond in our direct messages, as we always have someone ready to reply.

A nano tank would be PERFECT for you!🤏🏼 Nano tanks are typically around 10 gallons of water, and have extra small fish in them. Examples include celestial pearl danios, as seen in this video, but also ember tetras, green neon tetras, and scarlet gem badis to name a few.
