πΈ Indoor Cat Exercise πΈ
Encouraging your indoor cat to stay active may take a little creativity on your part but will benefit your feline friend for years to come. Indoor cats that exercise are shown to have decreased risk for osteoarthritis, heart & liver issues, diabetes mellitus, and other diseases.
Not sure how to get your cozy kitty up and moving? We've listed a few ideas below to get you started!
π Get involved! Human interaction while playing not only engages your cat physically but also provides them with lots of mental stimulation.
π Play hide and seek with your furry friend's favorite treats hidden around a room.
π³ Provide spaces that encourage climbing, such as a cat tree or window hammock.
πΎ Cat toys can be as simple as a crumpled up piece of paper or more complex like a treat puzzle. Whatever toys you choose for your feline companion, try to select ones that engage their natural hunting instinct.
π¦ Put all of those delivery boxes to use! Create a cardboard box playground for your cat to explore.

β΄οΈ Pet Training Tip β΄οΈ
β
Practice, Practice, Practice β
Practicing skills in new environments is a great way to continuously work toward and reinforce how you expect your pet to behaveβno matter where you are and regardless what is happening around you. Check out a local park together, visit pet-friendly stores, or take a trip to your friend's house. The more places and variety of ways you practice the desired positive behaviors with your furry companion, the more you will set your pet up for success as you face new experiences and go through life together.

Alvin and Theo were great at supervising our work during their boarding stay with us. They even had some input as to how we could improve the workplace environmentβsuch as cuddle time breaks, more warm blankets fresh from the dryer, and increasing the amount of cat treats we keep on hand.

π‘ Trivia Thursday π‘
Did you know that a greyhound πΆ could beat a cheetah π in a long distance race?
While cheetahs can run up to 80mph, they can only sustain such high levels of speed for around 200-300 yards. Whereas, greyhounds can keep a speed of 35mph for up to 7 miles. If a greyhound and cheetah were competing in a long distance race, our bet would be on this incredible canine!

β΄ Pet Training Tip β΄
π Use Positive Reinforcement π
Pets respond best to positivite experiences, especially when they are learning a new behavior. Now is the time to break out those high value rewards, such as their favorite treat, a new toy, and all of the "goodest boy"s and "that's my girl"s you can give.
It's important to remember that just as it takes you time to learn something new, your furry friend will need repetition and patience before they master a new skill, so it's important to reward your pet for trying. As you learn and improve together, you can gradually raise your standards for an expected behavior and your pet will respond to your positivity by feeling safe enough to learn a new skill.

In honor of International Cat Day, which was earlier this week, we're sharing a fun fact about our feline friends. Also, if you missed our post on Tuesday about your cat's special day, it's not too late to celebrate! We consider any day of the year a great time to show your furry companion some extra love.
π‘ Trivia Thursday π‘
What does a π±, πͺ, and π¦ all have in common?
They all walk by moving both feet on one side of their body and then both feet on the other side. If you watch closely, you will see the cat's back left and then front left paw touch down, followed by the back right and front right paws, and finally the back left and front left paws again.

π‘ Trivia Tuesday π‘
A dogβs nose print is as unique to them as your fingerprint is to you. So the next time one of your furry friends sneaks a few extra snacks from the treat jar and you can't tell which one is guilty, consider dusting for nose prints. π

π Pet Water Safety Tips π
π¦ Take Breaks π¦
Your pet burns a lot of calories while swimming. Provide them with frequent breaks throughout the day to rest and recharge before hitting the waves again.
π¦ Wear Life Jackets π¦
Fitting your furry friend in an appropriately-sized life jacket can help keep them afloat in deep water and allow you to more easily assist them in and out of the water. Picking a brightly colored life jacket also allows you to keep a better eye on them as they swim.
π¦ Check Water Conditions π¦
Choppy water, rip tides, and other water hazards can pose a risk to your pet. Water conditions can change quickly, so be sure to stay up to date and follow all posted water recommendations. As a general rule, if it is not safe for humans to swim, then it's best to keep your four-legged companion out of the water.
π¦ Rinse Off Afterward π¦
Salt or pool chemicals can irritate your furry friend's skin and may make them sick if injested through licking. Rinse off your pet in clean water after their swim before heading out for your next adventure together.
