Introducing Rupart, a tall, tan, and undeniably handsome pup ready to find his forever home! Unfortunately, Rupart was surrendered by his family, who could no longer care for him, but he’s not letting that dampen his spirits. He embodies the perfect blend of playfulness and relaxation—embracing cozy moments indoors while seeking thrilling adventures outdoors. Rupart walks beautifully on a leash, is housebroken, and knows his basic commands, proving that he’s not only loving but also well-mannered. With a gentle and affectionate nature, Rupart has reportedly done wonderfully with kids. He will thrive best in a cat-free home, as he’s not fond of felines. If you’re looking for a loyal and loving companion who’s ready to share adventures and snuggles, Rupart is the pup for you! Come meet him and see why he’s destined to be your new best friend!

Meet Sunshine, a wonderful Rottweiler/Boxer mix full of love who is eager to find her forever home! She was surrendered to the shelter when her family had to downsize, and now she’s ready to share her joy with someone special. Despite this significant change, Sunshine radiates love and excitement as she searches for her new family! Her previous owner shared that Sunshine is fantastic with children aged 4-12 years and small dogs, although she hasn’t had the chance to meet any cats yet. Having lived indoors and in a fenced yard, she may need a little help with her housetraining, but with patience, consistency, and the abundant love she gives in return, we believe she can thrive. If you’re looking for a furry companion to brighten your dreary winter days, Sunshine is the perfect choice. Come meet her—she’s eager to wiggle her little nub tail into your heart!

It’s crucial to get outdoor pets ready for the impending cold snap this week! Highs in the 30's and lows in the teens are coming!

BRING THEM INSIDE: The best option is to keep all pets indoors. However, if they must stay outside, ensure they have adequate protection from the harsh cold. Breeds like Huskies are equipped to handle winter thanks to their thick double coats, which provide insulation. On the other hand, dogs like Pit mixes, with their thinner coats and exposed undersides, are more susceptible to the cold and should either be brought inside or given insulated shelter. Puppies and older, frail, or sick dogs are particularly at risk in cold weather and require additional protection.

PROVIDE SHELTER: When temperatures drop below 45 degrees, having access to an insulated doghouse, garage, or shed can help keep your dog warm. Dogs that are used to living indoors or in milder climates should not be left outside during freezing conditions. Make sure the shelter is readily accessible, as you may not be home when the temperatures plummet.

INSULATE SHELTER: While a plastic or wooden doghouse can shield them from wind, it won't keep them warm without proper insulation. Use straw bedding—not hay—to insulate outdoor shelters. If you’re using straw to insulate a doghouse, it should be packed tightly along the sides and back. The dog should be able to burrow down into the straw for warmth. Bales of straw typically cost $10 or less at local feed stores and can fill 3-4 doghouses.

Dogs MUST have UNFROZEN water. Be sure to check on this several times a day.

And as a reminder, the shelter, as well as other community organizations, have a food pantry for those in need (while we have donations of food). P

If you are able to help a neighbor in need by donating either food or a dog house, please bring all donations to the shelter. If donating food, remember it must be new(unopened) and in date. Any brand is accepted and large bags of dry food are most helpful. You can have delivered to or bring by the shelter at 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville, NC 28677.

It's pupdate time!! Olivia's mom reached out to let us know that she is doing great, since she found her forever home with them in August of 2024. She loves dog parks and LOVED playing with her fur brother Jingles, pictured with her, who sadly passed away at 13 years old, in October. They all miss him, but wanted to make sure to include him in her pupdate, since he 'trained' her and loved her, as soon as she found home. Olivia's family wanted to share her DNA results with all us, with Olivia making sure to let everyone know, she's just OLIVIA! 🥰 She knows her mom has been visiting us some in that last few days, as she smells new friend smells when she arrives back home. Who knows? Maybe we will see Olivia sometime in the near future with a new fursibling! Thank you for sharing this with us and for adopting Olivia.

In our 'already adopted corner'... it's time for a pupdate!! Sweet Ruth was adopted at holiday time in late December and her forever family wanted to give us all an update on her new life! "Ruth is doing great! She's super smart, already knows commands like sit, stay, come and up! She loves her big brother Hoss and is still trying to get used to her cat brother, but she's learning. She's a cuddler and almost down-pat with potty training!"
We love these pupdates! Thank you for adopting and loving sweet Ruth! Looks like her love for cuddling is totally embraced with her family, both her two-legged family AND her four-legged family!
