Sharing for a friend. This pup is located at Saving Barrow County Animal Control Pets

She is a 3 year old Great Pyrenees. Like most Great Pyrenees.... she is lazy & very affectionate. She is heartworm positive but is being treated for that currently. The volunteers at the shelter says she has good leash manners.

They are currently looking for a foster home while she goes through treatment. Please contact Saving Barrow County Animal Control Pets for more information!

We appreciate you sharing & spreading the word!

Happy 4th of July eve!

Did you know 1 in 5 dogs go missing after being scared by fireworks? Here are some tips on how you can keep your pet safe and lower their stress this upcoming 4th of July:

What You Can Do In Advance:

1) Have Your Pet Microchipped
It can be very easy for your pet to get startled and escape outside, and very difficult to catch them when they’re scared. Making sure your pet is microchipped will help get them home easier and faster. If this isn’t an option, make sure they have on a correct fitting, safe collar with an ID tag with your phone number.

2) Set Up a Safe Haven for Your Pet
Cover their crate with blankets to block out the flashes and dull the sound, set up a bed in a closet, and put their toys and some of your clothing in this safe place so they’re surrounded with calming and familiar scents. Whatever you think would be most comfortable for your pet.

3) Medicate Your Pet, in Accordance with What Your Vet Recommends
If you think your pet will need anti-anxiety medication, go ahead and speak with your vet in advance so they can fill a prescription or you can purchase the recommended items. Give the medication as per the instructions you’re given. This will usually include giving the medication an hour or so in advance so it has time to be in their system, so prepare accordingly.

During The Fireworks

1) Take Your Dog Out Before the Fireworks Start to Prevent Needing to Go Outside Later
2) Play Calming Music or the TV to Drown Out the Sound
3) Close the Curtains or Blinds in the Room Your Pet is In to Block the Flashes
4) Stay Near Your Pet, Whatever That Means For Them. Some pets might like to curl up in their safe haven you set up with you in the room, while others may want to spend the evening in your lap.
5) Try Distracting Your Pet with Toys or Treats, but Don’t Force Them If They Aren’t Interested

We couldn’t help but share some amazing pups who are staying with us and are in need of loving homes! Their weights are listed, but as you can see they all can stand to gain a few pounds, which we are working on! If you're interested, you can find their foster's contact info at the end of the post!

Bailey (4yo, spayed, pitbull mix, ~45lbs) - Bailey is such a chill girl! We don’t mix pets/families here, but she gets along well with Cleo, who she was introduced to before arriving here, and other dogs along the fence lines. She loves getting attention and lounging around.

Oreo (2yo, neutered, lab mix, ~46lbs) - Oreo’s name not only fits his facial markings but how sweet he is! He’s such an energetic and playful boy, he loves playing with his toys and running around with our staff. He is heartworm-positive and is currently in treatment. Please contact his fosters (contact info below) for any questions concerning his treatment plan.

Cleo (10mo, female, lab mix, ~35lbs) - Cleo the cuddle bug! She’s another very playful and sweet pup, who loves giving hugs and kisses. We don’t mix pets/families here, but she loves hanging out with Bailey, who she was introduced to before arriving to us and running along the fence line to play with other dogs. Her fosters are planning on having her spayed soon!

Ginger (3yo, spayed, terrier mix, ~40lbs) - Ginger is a total ball hog! She’s very energetic and can entertain herself by throwing a ball around and chasing after it, but she really loves for someone to play with her! She’s super sweet with our staff, but she would probably do best in a home without other dogs. While she hasn’t interacted directly with other dogs here, she does seem to have some dog reactivity

For any adoption inquiries, questions, or meet and greet requests, don't hesitate to get in touch with their fosters for the rescue, Safe Haven Furever, Tom & Gena at 770-744-9549 or [email protected]!

If you're looking for a very sweet, very playful pup, Sadie is your girl!

She may be a little shy at first but she is quick to warm up and loves getting attention! She's very playful and energetic so an active family would be the best fit for her. We love having her stay with us, she's always a joy to be around! Sadie is about a year old, spayed, up to date on all her vaccines, and has no known health issues or allergies.

Sadie unfortunately needs to be rehomed due to her current owner not being able to give her the care and attention she needs due to extenuating circumstances. If you think Sadie would be a good fit for you, you can contact:

Craig Bishop at 678-414-1481 for more information.

Looking for a happy furry companion to add to your family? Taco is looking for his forever home but doesn't have much time left.

Details from Barrow County Shelter Below:
Taco is a happy 1 year old lab mix. He’s been at the shelter for 9 months, and he is a big excitable puppy. Taco is on the euthanasia list because he has been at the shelter for a long time without any interest. He is scheduled to be euthanized March 19th. He’s going to need training and lots of exercise, but is otherwise a great happy pup! If you are interested in Taco or want more information, please call the number below. If they don't answer, please leave a voicemail & they will get back to you!

Happy February! We hope everyone's new year is off to a good start! This past year at Winding Creek Kennels has been very exciting and 2024 is shaping up to be even better!

Some changes we made recently included:
- We've begun repainting our buildings. The first building is almost done and the others are scheduled to be painted in the future.
- We installed new automatic emergency generators in all our buildings so the entire kennel can still function as normal and without interruption, as they turn on within seconds if the power goes out. Our water well also has it's own emergency generator, so we don't have to rely on city water in case of an outage. These emergency generators can continue to power the entire kennel's electrical system for several weeks if needed.
- We got two brand new Pet Taxi vehicles that have a lot of safety features included.
- We upgraded our air conditioning units with a system that helps cool our buildings faster in the hot summer months.
- We also had a purification system added to our heating/cooling systems that uses ultraviolet light to kill and sterilize most airborne viruses, bacteria and germs.
- In our groom room, we have a new bathing system that's designed to help get a deeper clean in those thick coated dogs. We also got a new hydraulic lifting table to help with nail trims and other bathing services.
- In addition to our PUPkin cookies and Frostbites, we also offer Stuffed Kongs for your dog to keep your dog occupied overnight.

We are always working on improving your pets' experience during their stay here at Winding Creek as we continue to grow as a business!

This month marks the 30-year anniversary of Winding Creek Kennel's opening! That's 30 years of caring for your beloved dogs and cats with the same care we'd show our own. We'd like to give a big round of applause to Ed and Joan Klink for their dedication and commitment to giving individualized care to every guest since the beginning. We look forward to continuing to care for many years to come!

1) Most “treats” are not good for animals, so make sure to keep your candy stored in a safe place they can’t reach
2) If you’re dressing your pet up, make sure the costume does not restrict their movement. If your pet seems uncomfortable, it’s best to remove the costume. They’re cute enough without it!
3) Frequent opening of the door creates many opportunities for your pet to get out accidentally. Make sure they’re microchipped, or at least wearing a collar with your most up-to-date information.
4) Cats, black cats especially, can be targets for people who may wish them harm. It would be best to keep them inside for the night.

***MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT***
For years, Winding Creek has dreaded major storms, extreme cold, and other situations that could potentially cause a power outage. Sometimes the power would be out for only a few hours, but other times it would be out for several days. We have always been able to keep our guests safe and comfortable, but it required a considerable amount of additional work (dragging out our portable generators, portable heaters, temporary lighting, etc).

We are very pleased to announce the completion of the installation of our new permanently installed automatic Emergency Generators that will deliver power directly to our kennel electrical system, backing up the entire kennel operation. The system is designed to turn on automatically and will continue to produce the power needed for several weeks or more if it should ever be necessary.

Did you know the first American military dog was a Boston Terrier mix named Sergeant Stubby, and he actually earned that ranking? He was the 102 Infantry's mascot until he was smuggled into battle where he learned to alert his companions of surprise attacks!
This Memorial Day, we at Winding Creek Kennels are honoring all those who have given their lives for their country, both human and animal. We hope you have a safe and happy weekend!
