Jess the Mess K9 Training Throw your dog a bone, we train them like our own

It's Independence Day. Although there is a lot of turmoil going on in the world, I want to remind everyone how much we can learn from the unconditional love of our dogs. There is a reason dog spells God backwards. Hoping to see everyone with all of their fingers, toes, and paws intact on Monday! Have a safe weekend 🖤

I'm beyond thrilled, truly humbled, and so genuinely grateful to announce that we've officially WON BEST IN THE VALLEY 2025 for BEST PET TRAINER! 🎉🏆 You, the people of the valley voted, and honestly, my heart is bursting with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and profound accomplishment. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This isn't just some award; it's a testament to the incredible trust and support you've all given me in the last 2.5 years, and I can't express how much that means. Every single day, I get to wake up and do what I love – helping amazing people like you better understand and connect with their furry best friends. Being able to help people and their pets every day truly is a gift.

And speaking of gifts, I have to give a HUGE shout-out to my sidekick, Slug. 🐾 He's the reason for everything I do. There was a time when I lost everything including my sanity, he saved my life. Now, he's not just my best friend and service dog, but he continues to inspire me to help save countless others through the work we do. His endless enthusiasm, patience, goofy antics, and the sheer joy he brings into my life are the constant reminders of why I'm so passionate about what I do. Being able to combine my love for pet training with my dedication to animal well-being truly is a dream come true, and Slug is at the very heart of that dream.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to everyone who voted, who trusted me with their pet's journey, and who believes in the power of a strong human-animal bond! I'm so grateful for this community and for the opportunity to make a difference every single day. Here's to many more years of learning, growing, and helping each other and our beloved pets succeed! You guys are the best! ❤️

The concept of routinely altering dogs borrows heavily from the logic of livestock husbandry—controlling reproduction and managing behaviour for human convenience. And yet, the same people who would lose their minds at the idea of dogs being treated like livestock are the first to push early spay and neuter.

S*x hormones are an integral part of any animal’s development. Your dog cannot grow into the dog it was meant to be without them. These hormones shape bone density, muscle development, behaviour, and even how neural pathways form and function. Altering a dog before it’s fully mature disrupts critical biological processes that evolved for a reason. It’s time to move North American culture away from routine spay/neuter and toward responsible dog ownership.
