Today is National Take Your Cat To The Vet Day!
Your kids go to the pediatrician once a year, you see your dentist every 6 months, and even your car gets an oil change every 5000 miles; so why aren’t people taking their cats to the veterinarian for routine care? It seems hard to believe, but according to the American Humane Society, cats go the veterinarian half as often as dogs and many people only take their cat to the vet when their cat is sick.

The fact is cats get sick too! While they are masters at hiding illness, they also suffer from many of the same disease as their canine and human counterparts.

Many people only take their cat to the vet when their cat is sick. August 22nd is Take Your Cat to the Vet Day and it’s a great time to remind everyone about the importance of preventive care!

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Ashley Nelson will now be offering acupuncture services to our large animal patients. Dr. Nelson became a certified veterinary medical acupuncturist (cVMA) in January of 2024 after an extensive training course through CuraCore Vet.

Acupuncture has many uses in large animal practice. Acupuncture is a drug free approach that can be used to address musculoskeletal pain and enhance performance. Acupuncture has also been proven to aid in the relief of chronic pain, GI disease, lameness, respiratory problems, and in healing nerve paralysis.

Please call our office to discuss the possible benefits of acupuncture for your large animal patient(s) or to schedule an appointment.

Viva Raw LLC, Hillsborough, NC is voluntarily recalling dog and cat foods, including the Viva Turkey for Dogs Ground, Viva Turkey for Dogs Chunked, Viva Turkey for Cats, Viva Pure Turkey, and Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies all manufactured under Lot 21244 because this lot, which includes these five products are contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and is a potential health risk to people and pets.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pets eating contaminated products. People can become exposed to this pathogen through multiple routes such as handling the contaminated products, contact with pets that have eaten contaminated products and/or contact with surfaces that have touched contaminated food, such as bowls, utensils, or countertops. Risk of human illness from Listeria monocytogenes contaminated pet food increases if people do not thoroughly wash their hands after handling the food or having contact with their pet, or by not thoroughly cleaning contaminated surfaces.

Keep pets indoors during peak heat hours and ensure they have access to shade and plenty of fresh water when outside. Never leave pets in parked vehicles, as temperatures can quickly become dangerously high.
Limit exercise to cooler times of day and avoid hot surfaces that can burn paw pads.
Be aware of signs of heat stroke in pets, such as excessive panting, vomiting, or collapse, and seek immediate veterinary care if symptoms occur.
Pets with flat faces, elderly animals, and those with health issues are more susceptible to heat-related problems, so take extra precautions with these animals during hot weather.

For Father's Day, let's honor the caring cat and dog dads who open their hearts and homes to furry rescued friends. Shout out to the dads snuggling kitties for lazy Sunday naps or tossing tennis balls for paw-some playtime with their pups. From endless belly rubs to creating forever families filled with unconditional cuddles, these dads make the best fur-ever companions. Cherish the special bond between dads and their four-legged babies curled up in laps or by their sides - simple moments of pure love.

To better serve our furry friends and their owners, we're transitioning from walk-in visits to a drop-off system starting today! 🐾
Here's what you need to know:
🔹 **Drop-Offs Only**: For all non-scheduled visits, please drop off your pets. Our team will care for them and give you a call once they are ready to be picked up.
🔹 **No Change to Emergencies or End-Of-Life decisions**: Emergencies and End-Of-Life decisions will be handled as they currently are and will take precedence.
🔹 **No Change to Regular Appointments**: All scheduled appointments will remain as they are. If you have an appointment, please come in at your scheduled time as usual.
This change will help us provide more efficient and focused care for all our patients.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
