Not sure when I posted last, there have been many animals in for rehab this year and I have trouble getting up to date posts on FB. More up to date on Instagram. : )

This one made me get on and post though! LOL.

Great day for a release! This eagle is the Golden eagle who was hit outside of Craig last April. She had lead poisoning and a leg injury. After going to the eagle specialist, Heidi Bucknam, at Birds of Prey Foundation and her wonderful staff, she was sent to the skies again yesterday! She has a transmitter on her from a Federal Program so we will be able to follow her flight. She was a surrogate to two other Golden eaglets brought in from the Craig area as well. So grateful! Such an incredible feeling being in the presence of an eagle. She flew by and circled in gratitude.
Thank you to Karen Mack for her wonderful photos!

Happy fall! Many releases happening this fall. 🙏✨We've had in over 120 animals in for rehab in another year of no volunteers due to COVID. (the reason for the very few posts) So grateful for the abundance of wild things in my world. Here are a few photos and videos of a sampling of all we have been blessed to have gift our lives this year.

Two bald eagles in for rehab in less than 24 hours. 😔 Both eagles had lead poisoning which was really making them feel awful. One also had a broken leg which most likely was due to the fact that lead poisoning effects their depth perception and causes them to land poorly. Very precious cargo on my way to the eagle specialist Heidi Bucknam. So thankful for the support, compassion and caring, and wisdom of Heidi and Paula Birds of Prey Foundation! The unique and knowledgeable way they treat lead poisoning in all raptors is amazing. They are my heros and are angels on earth in my eyes and in the eyes (and hearts) of ALL the eagles and raptors they have helped to survive. ❤🙏❤😇

Pickle is charging into The Year of the Ox. It is said to be known to give good things to the world. I know Pickle is one good thing with definite strength of character and huge determination. A role model for how to live life. Cheer him on as he heads back to living his life in the wild after a full recovery. Such a sweet guy.

This sweet girl had a trap stuck on her foot. She also has mange. Such a strong spirit to keep going. After getting the trap off, cleaning her wound, getting medicine and a good meal . . . she sleeps peacefully. In the words of Charlie Mackesy - "So much beauty we need to look after." Please be wise when using traps.
* She came in about two weeks ago - this was her first day. Now she is feeling so much better and her coat is coming back in nicely, her foot is healing and soon she'll be ready to go back to her family.

Nina Rogers is competing in The Voices of Steamboat annual competition. She is graciously doing a fundraiser for Born Free. As you know, I am not on FB very often, but this one won my heart. This is Pickle.

Porcupines get a bad wrap. Look how cute they are! A mother porcupine and her young are considered a family group called a Prickle. 😄 Now that's super cute too. Pickle was hit by a car, head injury and couldn't see for a bit, left paw sore and he lost all his quills. The quills are growing back quickly.
Porcupines form lifelong partners. I have to say, I'm a fan! 🌟❤️😊

This year, so many times, I have read and re-read this poem by Wendell Berry. It gives me peace, especially when I am lying by a river or hiking in the woods or just sitting in the presence of wild animals. Things are in unrest, but the Peace of Wild Things brings us back to center - life is beautiful.

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives might be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
*Wendell Berry

If you remember last November we planted two Osprey nests. Both have Osprey pairs in them as of Easter Sunday and week. So much fun to watch! Very grateful these birds have a safe place to raise their young. I will try to post a few pictures from beginning to end of the process.

Many thanks to John Cromer of Cromer Contracting Cromer Contracting, Tyler Jaycox of CPW Shelby Jacox, Bill Gay, John Cromer of YVEA, Allan Reishus, Grey Barbier, and Noah Brinkman.

The clear photos taken with nice lens and camera📸by Mark and Marilyn McCaulley Marilyn McCaulley, Mark Edward, the not as clear ones are taken with my little point and shoot camera or my phone.

The two nests are named: River Road Osprey Bed and Breakfast and B and B Osprey Marriott (off Hwy 131)(Brinkman and Barbier)

It's been a LONG time since I have been on FB. Here are just a few beautiful friends who have been in for care since January 1. I keep more current on Instagram, but will try and do better on FB. Keep healthy and balanced through this time in our world. Sending love and healing to all and thanking all the people who are working so hard healing and caring for people who are sick with it.

11/08/2019

The first picture is of the Ospreys I saw last spring looking frustrated after trying to build a nest on that pole for over three weeks. There was a lot of wind, snow, rain, and they chose a crooked pole. I promised them I would get a nest up for them. Yesterday - we put up two osprey nests!!!

It couldn't have happened without the help of Tyler Jacox of Steamboat CPW, Cromer Contracting, Alan Reishus, YVEA, Bill Gay, Michelle of Hot Sulpher Springs CPW, Noah Brinkman and Grey Barbier. Special thanks to John Cromer of Cromer Contracting who went above and beyond!

In this time of extra awareness of being thankful . . . I am so, so grateful for all of the good people who helped make this happen. The Osprey couple will be surprised when they come back in April and find someone has built them a nest.😊❤️

This American Avocet should be in Florida by now. Poor guy was caught in the big snow storm and -10 degree weather. He is so cool and so fun to watch eat brine shrimp, tubifex and blood worms and feeder fish. My garage is kind of a beach retreat at the moment . . . even with sand included. Thanks to the help of the International Bird rescue people who were great at calling me back and giving me information on how to help this guy. I also appreciate the help of Grey Barbier who identified him for me. Feeling grateful for this little gift from the snowstorm.

This juvenile bald eagle had a weird thing happen to her. She got her foot caught in an Adirondack chair made of old skis. Her foot and wing have deep cuts and she has superficial cuts on her other wing. It was her lucky day to have two of the greatest guys in Steamboat, Steve Goldman and Nick Metzler of Colorado Group Realty help her get unstuck.

Thanks also to the eagle specialist, Heidi Bucknam of who is always willing to help!
