Great reminder about what Leptospirosis is and why we vaccinate for this disease in our mountain environment!

Leptospirosis is a potentially fatal disease that can be transmitted to all mammals, including humans, through wildlife urine. This disease can most often be found in areas that wildlife frequent, such as streams or trails. If you take your pet on hikes frequently or have wildlife on your property, vaccinating against Leptospirosis is a good idea.

The most common carriers of Leptospirosis in Montana are deer, elk, cattle, rodents, and racoons. If you have any questions about whether this lifestyle vaccine is right for you and your pet, give us a call and we will be happy to answer any of your questions!

Our cat Sunny has been missing for about a week. We are located across from the Steamboat Airport near Game Trails. She’s very scared of all things in this world and rarely leaves our yard/deck. She is microchipped, 8 lbs petite, and is greatly missed. Please let me know if anyone sees her!

Hello, I’m Dexter! I was brought in after my owner passed away, so am now looking for a new home. I love people though the old man in me can’t resist yelling at people to get off my lawn when they approach. I quickly warm up and love to get chin and head scratches and treatos! I did used to live with another cat but I prefer to be alone with my human, receiving all the love. I have opted out of every cat interaction, much preferring to snuggle into my bed, or watch from above. I am looking for a home that can give me plenty of attention, wants to hear all the current events that I see going on outside the window, and can give me plenty of time to nap! If you are looking for a sweet middle-aged kitty to snuggle on your lap, follow you around and meow at you with my raspy voice, and feed broth and churu ice cubes, come adopt me today!

Scary.

Scary.

8 in 10 pet owners want a licensed veterinarian, not a midlevel employee, to oversee their pet’s care. Proposed Initiative 145 introduces an entirely new role in Colorado called a Veterinary Professional Associate (VPA), whose training would be mostly online with minimal hands-on instruction and allowed to perform surgery after only a one-semester internship.

Our dogs’ paws are just as sensitive as our feet. Here are some ways to protect your dog’s paws on hot pavement (or artificial grass):

🐾 Check the weather and take precautions before you take your pet outside. Asphalt temperatures can vary with air temperatures, cloud cover, wind, etc. For example, 77°F air temp could result in 125°F asphalt temp - and it only takes 60 seconds on 125°F asphalt for a dog's pads to burn.
🐾 Place the back of your hand on the ground for 10 seconds, if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog.
🐾 Walk early in the morning or late in the evening when surfaces are cooler.
🐾 If your pet can easily adapt to them, invest in a pair of booties to protect your pet's paws.

Symptoms of paw burn may include limping, refusing to walk, darker than usual or discolored pads, excessive licking or biting of feet, visible blisters, extreme redness, and missing skin or parts of pads.

Update: Pending Adoption!

Rescued by one of our Oklahoma veterinarians, this 1-1/2 yrs old, 52 lbs, Australian Shepherd was seen being je**ed around in her parking lot by his owner who said that the dog's energy was annoying and they wanted to get rid of him. Dogs are so forgiving. Jax presented in the clinic as a happy, fun and very well-behaved dog. He can come to Colorado on our next transport if we have a person/family ready to welcome him as a foster or potential adopter. Please text us 9702817381 if you can help.
