As you know by now Hygain is stopping US deliveries. We are bringing in a substantial amount to help people during the transition. We found out same day you did!😪. Their nutritionists are going to give us comparison charts to share with you. We are considering looking at KeyFlow which does seem fairly comparable to Hygain. Call Monday to reserve your feed. We have 4 pallets of showtorque and munga coming in 1 of zero and a pallet of trugain.

This is so true right now. It is also true for veterinary technicians

Currently across the Country we are experiencing a significant shortage of practicing veterinarians in all settings. For many years we have faced a shortage of large animal veterinarians including equine practitioners. In the large animal and equine setting this has become a critical situation in Virginia. Only 1.4% of new veterinary graduates are opting for a career in equine medicine, and 50% of them are leaving equine practice within 5 years.
The Virginia Horse Council, Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, VAEP, and other groups are committed to solving the issue in the Commonwealth, and the AVMA and other groups are doing so nationally, but there is no short fix to this, only a long one which may take many years to solve.
We ask that horse owners understand the state of overwhelming burden this has caused for your equine practitioners who are doing their best to serve you. The long hours, overwhelming number of cases, and stress of equine practice with so few practitioners demands understanding, cooperation, and support from our horse owners. If you note changes to your veterinarian's practice such as needing you to trailer your horse to the clinic, not being able to take emergency call for non-clients (because they cannot keep up with the emergencies of their existing clients), or long waits for a farm call, please understand it is because they are overwhelmed, but want to serve and get to you as soon as they are able.
Your equine veterinarian has chosen one of the most difficult areas of practice because of their compassion, and love of equine medicine. They need your understanding to continue to practice under these challenging circumstances. Please help to support them as we navigate these issues.

Equine herpesvirus (EHV) is a family of equine viruses named by numbers including EHV-1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 with EHV-1,3,4 posing the most risk for domestic horses. EHV is a common DNA virus that occurs in horse populations worldwide. The two most common species are EHV-1 and EHV-4.

As a heads up, our physical office will be closed intermittently on Fridays. What does this mean for our awesome clients? Feed and medication pick ups will only be available Monday-Thursday. A horse in Augusta County has been euthanized after contracting Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM), a mutation of Equine Herpes. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has quarantined the farm where the horse was and seven other horses that were exposed.

We stand by the products we carry, and we are absolutely thrilled with the results Hygain Feeds are showing us! This horse recently came into a client’s barn in real need of groceries, and she started on Hygain Showtorque and Hygain TruGain earlier this month. In just a few weeks, the difference is tremendous.

The bottom picture was taken the first week of January 2023 and the top picture is the most recent.
