The Hornbostel family has been milking for almost a hundred years. Their herd consists of 5 of the 7 dairy breeds--specializing in Brown Swiss. Shiloh Lane Farms Dairy was bought in the early 1900's on the Land Grant Act by Adolf William Hornbostel and his two brothers. Back then, they cared for only enough livestock to support the family. Adolf's son, Jr, bought more dairy cows and they were milk
ing 12 in 1942 when they became a charter patron of the Prairie Farms Co-op. They have always milked Brown Swiss cattle but have kept a few Ayrshires and Holsteins along the way. They began registering their animals in the 1980's and the herd is fully registered today. Jrโs grandson, Mark, is currently owner and herd manager and is working on production and type in his cattle.
