💫💫Fun Fact Friday💫💫

The American Quarter Horse is the oldest American breed and can be traced back to colonial times, but did you know that they can also be traced back even farther to the North African Barb and and Spanish stock?

This breed is truly full of history. Their long history has made them into the versatile breed that we know and love today!

You can always learn more about the American Quarter Horse at https://www.aqha.com/history-of-the-quarter-horse

Well, we’re not going to lie y’all… it’s pretty cold 🥶
You know what isn’t cold though?! The boarder barn!

This barn was designed to keep heat in during the winter and keep the heat out during the summer, making it perfect for the extreme heat as well as the extreme cold.

As you can see below all of the windows have plexiglass just for cold snaps like this! The plexiglass helps keep the barn closed up as warm while still allowing for plenty of natural light.

The wood shudders you see are perfect for in the spring and summer! These shudders are closed when we get those spring and summer rains, keeping all of the stalls dry! Then, once the rain passes they are opened and you get a great breeze through the barn on those super hot summer days!

Are you interested in coming and seeing the barn and getting a tour of the property? Shoot us a message or call us at (254) 918-1095

🐴Have you wondered what our stalls look like?!🐴

🐴 Each stall is 12x12
🐴 Each stall has access to water hoses and blanket racks
🐴 In the back of the stalls you will find outlets for fans or heat lamps. Worried about horses messing with the cords? We thought of that too! There is a gap between the stall and the wall where you can tuck electrical cords to keep them out of your horses reach!
🐴 Boarders are welcome to keep tack trunks and or saddle racks in front of their stalls!

Curious about pricing on stalls? Please feel free to message us or call our office at (254) 918-1095

It’s winter in Texas!
Do y’all know what that means? Nasty cold fronts, and you know what those nasty cold fronts bring? The dreaded C word…. Colic. It makes your bank account hurt just thinking about it doesn’t it?!

It’s to start preparing your horses now rather than later! Need some tips? Well we have some for you!

1️⃣ Feed electrolytes or salt! This will help ensure your horses are drinking plenty water, which in turn will keep them hydrated!

2️⃣ Make sure horses have access to forage such as free choice hay, a round bale, or grassy pasture. Consuming forage will keep the metabolism up, which in turn keeps them warmer.

3️⃣ Be sure that horses have plenty of access to clean water. Waters may freeze during the lowest temperatures last week, but a water bottle or milk jug with some salt water will help prevent water troughs from freezing by floating around the top of the water!

It’s January 1st y’all! Do you know that that means? It’s a great time to update your coggins!

Did you know that horses are required by Texas state law to have a current negative coggins test? These tests are required for horses traveling within the state, horses that are competing in events, horses that are stabled within the state, and horses that are changing ownership.

Coggins, or EIA (equine infection anemia) is a highly infectious disease that is extremely contagious and is fatal.

A coggins test helps to identify horses that are carriers and helps prevent the spread of the disease.

While it may sound scary, a coggins test is a great way to help keep your horse safe!
