https://www.aplos.com/aws/give/ErathCountyHumaneSociety We cannot accept animals outside of Erath County.

The Erath County Humane Society is a very active influence in the county offering shelter to homeless and unwanted animals. There is no charge for bringing in animals from within the county but all donations to the organization are very much appreciated. As we are usually at or past capacity, acceptance of owner surrenders is contingent on space available & there is a charge of $35. We are a no-ki

ll facility and there is no time limit on healthy, non-aggressive animals that are in our care. All dogs and cats adopted from the shelter must be spayed or neutered within a reasonable period of time, depending upon the age of the animal. This is in accordance with state law. Other requirements coincide with those ordinances on the books of the city of Stephenville such as vaccinations, tags, number of pets in the household, etc. Stephenville Police Department employs two officers to enforce those regulations. Law enforcement agencies work with shelter employees and volunteers to bring charges against anyone who cruelly mistreats or improperly cares for animals in their custody. The ECHS was organized on September 16, 1976 and is a chartered, non-profit corporation. The first shelter was the city pound to which the humane society added a small wooden building. During 1977, ECHS began to do cruelty investigations of animals, particularly staged dog fights. During the following session of the state legislature, a bill co-sponsored by Senator Bob Glasgow, Stephenville, was passed making this practice a felony in the state of Texas. In November of 1984 a climate controlled animal shelter was completed. The 40 by 16 foot building was constructed by a local contractor and cost $17,500 the cost of which, was donated by private citizens and businesses, with the help of fund raisers. ECHS works together with the City of Stephenville and the County government in controlling the animal population in this area. Monetary support for the shelter includes $17,000 annually from the city of Stephenville and $18,000 from the county. ECHS owns and maintains the two buildings constructed on the property, the second structure having been completed in 1992. The Humane Society is staffed by one full time and three part time employees. They are assisted with the help of volunteers and some individuals doing public service. The city has two salaried officers who make investigations inside the city limits concerning animal welfare. They are also responsible for capturing and bringing strays to the shelter. Animals are then processed by the shelter staff. ECHS business hours are 2:00pm to 6:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 12:00 to 5:00 on Saturdays. We are closed on Wednesdays and Sundays and some holidays. Donations are greatly appreciated:

MEET KENTUCKY
This sweet little girl is ready for her forever home! Kentucky is very sweet, cuddly, soft and will be very loyal. She is 98% house broken, crate trained, and is making progress learning basic commands. She loves running around, playing fetch, being silly and does well on a leash for walks. She is quiet in the house, likes to snuggle and take naps in the sunlight. Does well with our dog, but can get competitive for attention. She does ok with our cat, but needs supervision when they are together. She doesn’t seem aggressive towards him, but the cat doesn’t appreciate the attention she gives him. Come visit Kentucky, you’ll fall in love!

Last night, the PD brought in a medium-sized female dog that was white with black/gray ticking along her body. She had been struck by a vehicle near the hospital on Graham St. and unfortunately did not survive the ride to the shelter. She was not microchipped. If she is yours, we are very sorry for your loss. We do have pictures if you believe she may be yours that we can send, or compare to pictures that you may send us to let you know if that was her. She did come in with a brown female pit, who's owner we've left a voicemail for, and do not know if they belong to the same person or not.

Re*****on is a 3-year-old neutered male Black Mouth Cur mix.
Re*****on was found as a stray and not reclaimed. He is very nervous at the shelter and would do best in a quieter home without children. When he is fearful, he is not snappy and is much more likely to run and hide. He does okay on a leash, but will panic whenever there's a loud noise or sudden movement. Once he feels comfortable, he likes to hover next to you and will rest his head against you for comfort. He does seem to be kennel trained and tries not to potty in his kennel. He has not been reactive towards dogs through the fence, but has not been formally dog tested. He has not been cat tested. Re*****on has received all his vaccines, de-wormer, a neuter, and a microchip. He is heartworm negative and on prevention.

Baby is a 3-year-old spayed female Husky/Great Pyrenees mix. Baby was adopted in 2022 and returned due to the owner moving. She has spent the last 2 years chained outside and has not been an inside dog. If she is to be an inside dog, she will need patience and time to learn. She is good with other dogs, but cannot be around small animals like cats, bird, or smaller wildlife. She is very people oriented and does great with strangers and kids. She does not know her size and likes to jump up to hug you. Because of this, she may need a home without younger children she may knock over. She never showed interest in jumping over fences but is pretty adept at digging under them. She rides well in a car and walks well on a leash. Baby loves going on walks and runs. She knows "shake," "sit," and "stop." Baby is spayed, vaccinated with DHPP and Bordetella, and microchipped. She has started dewormer. The adopter will be responsible for getting her rabies vaccine updated. Baby did test positive for heartworms and has started the slow kill method of treatment. She has a 30 day course of antibiotics and will need to stay on a monthly ivermectin based heartworm prevention until she can be retested in a year.

Fo-Shizzle is a spayed female 6-month-old DSH.
Fo-Shizzle was brought in from the county and not reclaimed. She is still a little mistrusting of people and will need just a little more time and patience to become a friendlier cat. While she initially runs from you, she loves head scratches and will sit for a little bit letting the lovin's happen. She does growl while being held but does not try to bite or swat at you. She loves toys and will often bat them around her kennel. Fo-Shizzle is spayed, rabies vaccinated, and vaccinated with 2 of her 3 FVRCP vaccines. She is pending a microchip.
