Congratulations to Daisy (Gunner x Ripple puppy) and Janet Troyer! This team scored a 98 out of 100 in rally advanced A and a personal best fast cat (100 yard dash) speed of 20 mph this weekend. It was Daisy’s first rally event off leash and first time jumping in competition.

Way to start off 2025, ladies! Thanks for the photo.

We had a great time at Mini American Nationals this week! Sparkle was injured the first day, so got to rest the remainder of the show.

We’re happy that we were there to cheer on our friends, Best of Breed winner Oshi, with owner Val Nilsson, and Select winner Kiara, with owner Jerisha Ganske! Congratulations to all the connections to these wonderful representatives of our breed! And congrats to the rest of the winners.

The dogs got a field trip today, and participated in a clinic held at Animal Chiropractic Training Source, where doctors learn the specialty of animal chiropractic care. Here, Dr. Bill Ormston instructs a student on adjusting Sparkle. Thanks for letting us attend!

Congratulations Poppy!! Coaldust Got It In Spades at Bandana finished her fastcat title (for sprinting 100 yards). She seemed pretty proud of herself. Any dog—purebred or not—are eligible to run in this event, and it was really fun!

Thanks to Jerisha at Coal Dust Kennel for breeding this awesome dog!

Today, Poppy and Sparkle both tried a new sport, fastcat (100 yard dash).

They each had qualifying times on their runs, so got an official mph rating! The track was a bit muddy from the rain, but the dogs thought that made it extra fun!

Good news! We have NAD health test results back for all breeding dogs, and happy to report none at Bandana Kennel are affected. Affected is the only category of results that exhibit the disease, and this test allows breeders to have information to determine their breeding choices moving forward.

Several previous puppy owners and others have asked when we might have another litter available, and the a big part of the answer was, we were pausing because we were hopeful a NAD test was coming soon. We’ve made no secret of the fact that one NAD affected dog was bred here in the past, before the disease had a name or we were even aware of its existence. That spurred the drive to do our part to help create a genetic test, and while that work was ongoing, breeding here took a break.

If you’re looking for a pet now, we have one or two select young adults retiring from the show ring. And hopefully, new litters in the future. We’re happy to discuss finding what you’re looking for, even if it’s not here.

Good news, everyone! A new breed health test is available to the public from Purdue University for Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (NAD). Find testing details, along with info about the disease, here: https://vet.purdue.edu/addl/tests/fees.php?id=489

Bandana Kennel is proud of the breeders, owners and scientific teams who worked together to make this test a reality. We are happy to have contributed to this important genetic research and the future health of the breed.

All breeding dogs at Bandana Kennel have been tested, and we’re awaiting results. We’ve had several puppy inquiries lately, and all breeding plans are pending until testing is finished.

If you have questions about the disease or this new test, please reach out!

This past weekend was a success for both Bandana (Texas) and Coal Dust (Wyoming) kennels in OKC. Black tri Perseus, bred and owned by Jerisha Ganske at Coal Dust Kennel and trained at Bandana, won majors most days. He ended the week one point shy of his championship and a Best Opposite the same day his Bandana niece, Sparkle, won her best of winners and her first major.

Much thanks to the respective judges.

Also, couldn’t have done it without Julie Barger with her cheer squad of kids and shelties, as well as ringside help, Roger Ganske. All who managed to avoid any photos. 😂

OKC was a great show!

Sparkle did just that, with a Best Of Winners under judge Steven Keating. She has been healing a leg injury, so we were happy to see her feeling spunky enough to take a spin around the ring.

Sparkle is a Gunner x Poppy puppy. Gunner was trained here and owned by Alta kennel. Poppy was bred by Coal Dust Kennel.
