Happy Thanksgiving from us here at From Wags to Wiggles! 🦃🐾

As we gather around the table with friends and family today, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude to all of our wonderful pet parents for trusting us to care for your beloved fur babies. 🐶🐱

We know just how important your pets are, and we want to make sure everyone has a safe and happy holiday! Here are some Thanksgiving day safety tips to help keep your pets safe and sound:

1. Avoid Holiday Table Scraps for Your Pets

Many traditional Thanksgiving foods, like turkey, stuffing, and gravy, can be harmful to pets. Make sure to keep these delicious dishes out of reach of your curious companions. Chocolate, onions, garlic, and certain spices can be especially toxic to pets.

2. Secure The Trash & The Leftovers

After the feast, be sure to securely cover or dispose of leftovers and food scraps. Pets may scavenge from the trash, which can lead to ingestion of bones, fat, or spoiled food which can be dangerous.

3. Create A Quite & Safe Space

With all the excitement of guests, all the new smells, and a busy kitchen can be overwhelming for some pets. Consider creating a quiet, safe space for them to relax while you entertain. A cozy bed or crate in a quiet room can help reduce their anxiety.

4. Keep an Eye on The Decorations

Holiday decorations, like candles, tinsel, and centerpieces, can be tempting for pets to chew on or potentially knock over. Be mindful of where you place these items to prevent accidents.

5. Ensure Your Pet Has Proper Identification

But how do you choose which is the right options for your pet you ask? With each choice having specific advantages and downfalls, it makes it essential to weigh out your options based on your pet’s unique needs. Here are some key factors to help you decide which service is right for your pet.

1. Comfort Level
Pet Sitting: If your pet thrives in their home environment, and doesn’t like to stray from their day to day routine, pet sitting might be the best choice. Staying in familiar surroundings and sticking to their normal routine can reduce anxiety and stress.

Boarding: On the other hand, some pets may adapt well to new environments and enjoy the social aspect of boarding facilities. If your pet is outgoing and friendly, they might find joy in mingling with other furry pals.

Once you’ve made the decision on which option is best for your pet; how do you decide what sitter or what facility to use? Family and friend referral is always a great place to start. I recommend always taking a tour of the facilities before leaving your beloved pet in their care. Most pet sitters offer a complimentary meet and greet before they will be caring for your pet, take full advantage of this. Here at From Wags to Wiggles we require the meet and greet before we can have your pet in our care.

I’ve also included a list of some important questions that may help narrow down your options:

Questions for your potential pet sitter:

Do you have any certifications?

Are you fully insured and bonded?

Do you have references that we can contact?

How much do you charge?

Do you have experience caring for pets with ( insert any special needs your animal has)?

Will you provide regular updates?

Can you meet my pet prior to services?

Questions for potential boarding facilities:

Are staff present 24/7?

How often do pets receive one on one attention?

How often will my pet be in group play?

How many hours a day will my pet spend in a kennel?

Are there specific pick-up and drop-off times?

Ultimately, the choice between pet sitting and boarding depends on your pet’s personality, behavior, and specific needs. With each of these options having their specific advantages its important to take the time to evaluate each option. Whether you decide on the loving touch of a pet sitter or the excitement of a boarding facility, knowing your pet will be well cared for will bring you peace of mind while you're away.

Chocolate is Danger: Many pet owners know that chocolate is toxic to dogs. Ensure all Halloween candy is stored securely and somewhere out of reach.
Sugar-Free Sweets: Be cautious of sugar-free candies containing xylitol, which is extremely harmful to pets.

2. Create a Safe Space
Quiet Zone: With all the commotion of trick-or-treaters, create a calm, safe area for your pets to retreat to. This can help reduce stress and anxiety.
Comfort Items: Make sure to provide their favorite toys or a cozy blanket to make the space more inviting.

🌲🍂 Autumn is here at Willow River State Park! Today we had an amazing hike with Ollie, a beautiful rough collie we get the pleasure to take on hikes once a week. The park is bursting with fall colors, and we couldn’t resist capturing a moment in front of this massive tree. And how stunning is the waterfall? Nature is truly at its best right now!
