For many, many dogs, Fetch must be taught... especially all parts of it: it involves a chase, a pick-up, the return, and the drop. Some dogs have no interest. Some will engage in parts, but not the whole.

For owners who need to exercise their dog, playtime matters. Play skills can be learned. Fetch is a great part of that arsenal.

Yesterday I had the joy of reading David Wroblewski’s masterpiece, Familiaris, on the couch with one of my beloved Canis Familias. Usually I read this magnificent work first thing in the morning, but recently I skipped to his Acknowledgments because I need to start writing my own and wanted ideas.

Imagine my surprise and gratitude when I read: “A great many people educated me on subjects integral to this story … Patricia McConnell showed me what it means to dedicate one’s life to the well-being and happiness of dogs.”
