As of June 5, 2024, renovations will be complete and intake will re-open. We DO NOT have walk-in availability. Intakes MUST be scheduled with our Intake Coordinators. John-Fred is currently our longest stay dog at the shelter. He has been with us for 264 days as of May 15. 😔 None of us can understand why he’s still here because he is such a good boy.

John-Fred gets along great with every dog we have introduced him to and he responds to correction very well. As a matter of fact, John-Fred is our “test” dog when we do behavior assessments on new intakes.

John-Fred knows to sit for his food and treats. He walks like a pro on a leash. And did we mention this guy is a looker! 👀 Ladies, if you want a good man in your life, THIS is the one!

Simple Analogy—Why we can’t saved them all…

Every time rescue is asked to take an owner surrender- we have to somehow make room on our little raft for that dog.
When an owner says stuff like “I don’t have time to give them the best life” or “I have to move” or “they have too much anxiety” it really falls flat because that means if we bring them on the raft, another dog out there in the freezing water gets to die.

Every day rescue adjudicate life and death by gate keeping who can get on the boat.

Rescues and shelters are the tiny Rescue Boats.

The Ship is our community at large.

The iceberg is comprised of puppy mills, careless owners, backyard breeders, and a$$hats who won’t spay/neuter.

Our kids are selling raffle tickets for Ko Op for kids. This group raises money through a Casino Night Fundraiser and raffle tickets. The money collected is used to support the hard working kids in our area at their county auction as well as at SA Rodeo.
