Story time….
Guy calls shortly after dark. “Hey guys my 13 year old got on a good buck right around the corner we might need help”.
If you know us you know we sprung into action. Get down there and start tracking him. Wet pine needs make for a hard track so we decided to call in the dog. Get my good buddy Blake Rider with Gear’d Up Wounded Deer Recovery on the phone, him and scoot are on the way. Scoot arrives on scene and is quick to work. Didn’t say a word, well this is where things got western. The buck gets up not 100 yards from where we back out at. Scoot is nose to ass with Blake hot on the trail.. silence. Lights are off everything is still where me and the hunters decided to hold up. Chatting about how mad mom is going to be because finals are tomorrow. Then phew, phewwww, pheewwww. Phone rings it’s blake “uh deers down but he is sinking we might need a boat” home boy had found the largest beaver pond in south Alabama and decided he was going across it. No hesitation we broke get to blake and we see what we think is the side of the animal, the whole time the dad to the boy was telling me he couldn’t let me get in the water. Little did he know, I was going in the water and getting that boys buck. Located the dam and away I went. If you know anything about beaver pond they cut tunnels in the bottom don’t ask why they just do. So one minute it was ankle deep the next step was waste deep. Granted it wasn’t that cold last night but the water… boy was it. So I waded out and made the recovery! Floated him back across and delivered him like ups same day delivery. The young hunter was ear lobe to ear lobe grinning. And that moment made what we were doing all worth it!
