Sweet Pea Pygmies

Sweet Pea Pygmies We raise registered and unregistered pygmy goats, all being pure bred pygmy goats. Established 2013, Stonecreek, Ohio 43840

Started in 2013 as a hobby/pet, Sweet Pea Pygmies started after buying twin unregistered doelings, Sweet Pea and Lola, from our friends in 4-H. The following year we added their niece, Bluebell, and our love for the breed grew even more. After breeding the twins, we had 3 kids born in Spring of 2015. One of Lola's twin does were retained, giving us our youngest doe to date, Luna. We hope to add a registered doe in spring of 2016, to begin our official herd.

I currently have 5 pygmies for sale: 1 unregistered wether, 1 unregistered doeling, 1 registered doeling, and 2 registered non-breeding adult does (that will be sold as a pair). Please PM me for additional information. Pictured are the three kids.

I have been meaning to post, but things have been busy between work and life in general. We have three does due at the end of March, with only 5-6 kids expected. All kids will be registered (unless they do not meet the breed standard). We will have no unregistered kids available this year, as we lost Sage 2 weeks ago unexpectedly. I am only going to open a wether waitlist, as chances are doe kids will be retained, at least temporarily, depending on how many we have, and if we have some available, they will be out of Peach and Erika. Hopefully I can get some pics later this week of all 4 does. Please note the kids this year will be weaned a bit later due to their birthdates, so kids will not be available for earlier fairs this year.

Finally got the girls to go outside for a bit today after our bad weather, and boy are they starting to look round! Only 90 days until kidding season! Erika is still a little on the smaller side, but with this being her 1st kidding we are expecting her to be. She is really deep though. Pictures in order are Sage (expecting 2-4), Sage again, Erika (expecting 2), Precious (expecting at least one), Peach (expecting 2), and Snow Drop (this year's keeper kid, who is not bred).

12/14/2022

I am very excited to announce that we have FOUR bred does! All four were bred to Echo Springs Gunner within a five day window so we will have lots of kids due at the end of March! All four should kid at around the same time, so hopefully these kids will be the best of friends! The expecting mommas are:
GVS Pygmies Midnight Trouble (Precious)
Spurwood Minis Peach
Woodclyf Erika (1st time mom)
Sweet Pea Pygmies Sage UR (kids will be unregistered)

11/26/2022

Just sitting here waiting to see if the does go back into heat or not, and so far so good! Hopefully in the next two weeks or so I will schedule an appointment for blood test or ultrasounds (depending on when it is for sure) so we can 100% confirm the does are bred! We are currently at 21-29 days bred, so kids will be due towards the end of March, beginning of April!

10/02/2022

I apologize for the lack of post this summer, it has been one of those years it feels like. We are getting ready for breeding season now though! We are breeding our 4 breeding age does: GVS Pygmies Midnight Trouble (who is fine contrary to her behavior at the Wooster OPGA show this weekend), Sweet Pea Pygmies Sage (unregistered), Spurwood Minis Peaches, and Woodclyf Erika. They are all going to be bred to Echo Springs Gunner, unless they are playing hard to get, in which case I habe a back up "catch all" buck that the three registered does can use. Going to try some methods others have been using to increase my chances of doe kids, so hopefully I can have some for next year (to keep and sell).

06/06/2022

I am very excited to announce that all three of our 2022 wethers have found a home! We will be retaining the two doe kids for now, so no more kids will be available until 2023!

☆☆☆☆THEY HAVE FOUND A HOME☆☆☆☆

I have two registered wethers ready to go to a new address after their registration papers arrive! Born 2/28, these two boys are weaned, disbudded, wethered, and utd on their CD&T. These boys were bottle babies, making them extra friendly, and are already somewhat lead trained! They are perfect for pets or 4-H projects! The light grey is Fruit Loop, the dark grey is Captain Crunch (which does have a nicer back than what is pictured, I'm not sure what his deal was). Please contact me for additional information!

Formally introducing Sweet Pea Pygmies Snow Drop UR (pink) and Sweet Pea Pygmies Snapdragon UR (purple). It may seem like an odd choice for the one with less white to be Snow Drop, but Snapdragon has a butterfly shapped dark area on her face, and typically Snapdragons are good for butterflies, so I found it more fitting. These girls are NOT available at this time (if we decide to sell, we have a waitlist to go through first).

These are the three kids I have available this year. I'm currently going through my waitlist, but if you want more info on them, feel free to comment or message me. All three are wethers, who will be registered with the NPGA, banded, utd on vaccines, and are already disbudded.

Red Collar: Sweet Pea Pygmies Captain Crunch 2/28

Got some pics of Sage's does and a better pic of Precious' buckling! Sage's does are grey agouti, one plain and one with lots of bling! Precious' boy is a grey or black agouti with a small slash on the right side.

03/23/2022

Twin does for Sweet Pea Pygmies Sage UR and Echo Springs Gunner born via c-section today (ring womb). All three are doing good, Sage is definitely in the worst shape of the three, but that's to be expected. Pics to come later.

I suppose I should announce the new arrivals since they are almosr two weeks old and have been disbudded and are out of the woodwork from that! Intoducing Sweet Pea Pygmies Captain Crunch and Sweet Pea Pygmies Fruit Loop (spelling undecided). Proud parents are Spurwood Minis Peach x Echo Springs Gunner. Twi wucks, Crunch is the dark grey, and Fruit Loop is the light grey (white slash on right side and bling on both back feet). Both are being bottle fed (as are all of our kids this year due to some issues).

I have decided to only open my wether waitlist this year. This may be a odd choice, but I'm hoping that only making a list for wethers means I will get lots of does! That being said, if I have alot of does 🤞, I will post when they come available. So if you want wethers, let me know, and I will put you on my waitlist. This goes for both registered and unregistered. They make great 4-H projects and pets, and are great introductions to the breed! Pic is of Sweet Pea Pygmies Cherrio in an awkward stage, who turned into one of the prettiest show boys!

Still waiting on our blood test results, but I'm excited to state that we are seeing our first udder development in Peach! I'm so excited for kidding season to start, and I'm hoping we get lots of doe kids! I already have some named picked out for some does' kids, regardless of their gender, so I might share some in the next few weeks, along with a highlight of some of our does!

01/14/2022

So our suprise/project is Cl, Cae, and Johnes testing! I don't feel any of our girls have any of them, but I'm trying my best to ensure that the kids we raise have the best potential to succeed in life! We should have the results next week, and when we do (pending they are all negative, with the exception of Rody and Erika's preg checks), I will officially open our waitlist! I'm excited, yet nervous, to get these back!

I'm hoping to open our waitlist sometime in the next two weeks. It is waiting a bit longer than normal as I'm scheduling something for the girls and I want to wait until that is over first. Once it is, I will be opening the waitlist for March-April kids!

12/18/2021

After some family discussion, we have came to the conclusion that we will not be rebreeding Starburst this year if she is not pregnant. This is not due to any fault of her, its more of a calender issue. If we were to breed her next week, her kids would already be a month behind the youngest kids from our other does, and that's if she took right away. Don't worry, we are not retiring her, just giving her an off year. This does mean that we will not be having ANY brown agouti kids this year (unless Rolo bred does through the fence, and it better be any doe but Sage). Its a bummer, but with 6 others bred, we will be busy. And besides, that just means this cute face doesn't het hormonal and will always love her snuggles (and the unthinkable is less likely to happen and she's my baby girl).

12/17/2021

Just got a call from the vet! Woodclyf Erika is bred! She will be due around April 10th! I'm so excited to see her and Gunner's kids! Unfortunately, that same call said that Starburst is going to need rechecked, meaning her blood levels were not high enough to say she is certainly bred, but not low enough to say she is open. Our guess is that she was bred when we saw her kids a month ago, but lost them somewhere around Thanksgiving, and her hormones just haven't went back to normal yet. But we could be wrong, so we will be rechecking in a few weeks.

Unfortunately Kylee's not going to be well enough anytime soon to help me do a proper introduction, so I will introduce her myself! Introducing our newest addition Woodclyf Erika! Erika is a two year old doe with great show potential Kylee purchased back in October! She is so beautiful, and actually won Jr Grand Champion at a show this summer! We are extcited to see how she continues to develop for us! As of right now, she is exposed to Echo Springs Gunner, but I don't think she is bred, pending her blood results. She will be reexposed once we know (unfortunately her kids will not be a good age for 4-H for the 2022 show year)

We had another ultrasound session on Friday to scan the does again, and the results were a bit more unclear this time:
Sweet Pea Pygmies Rhubarb Pi- Pregnant with twins possibly
Saltbox Farm Rody- Possibly Pregnant, recheck next week
Sweet Pea Pygmies Starburst- not pregnant????, although she was scanned for kids last time, we took her up to get another scan for possible numbers, but didn't see any signs of pregnancy this time.
Suprise doe I'm hoping Kylee will feel up to announcing soon: not pregnant 😢

We are going to pull blood this Friday to check for sure that Starburst and our new addition aren't bred, and if they are not, then they will get a dose of Lute and thrown back in with the buck. I'm really hoping they are bred, just maybe not showing.

4 out of 7 confirmed bred at the first ultrasound isn't bad at all! The other 3 aren't far enough along yet, but here's what we know:
Spurwood Minis Peaches is bred, expecting twins
GVS Pygmies Midnight Trouble is bred, expecting multiples
Sweet Pea Pygmies Starburst is bred, number unknown,
Sweet Pea Pygmies Sage Ur is bred, number unknown

Saltbox Farm Rody is believed to be bred, but is not confirmed for sure, and the other two nothing was seen.
Ps, look how smart they are, they can sort by color 😂

11/19/2021

Tomorrow's a big day! We will find out who is bred (well, most of them, I don't believe that all of them will be far enough along), and about how far along some are! I'm very excited to see if my guesses are correct or not!

10/31/2021

The girls have been busy at the breeders the past 4 week! We know about when 3, maybe 5, were bred (I'm think Starburst and a surprise were bred fairly quickly, while Peach, Sage, and Rody were all bred last weekend). We are very excited to bring them home in around 2 weeks when we have finished the 2nd heat cycle in with the bucks!

10/27/2021

I've been noticing alot of scammers recently, and thought I would share on how you can avoid falling for their traps:
1. Deposit without seeing the goat
If someone requests a deposit to hold a goat without you seeing it (or offering to let you see it), proceed with caution. There are circumstances when a deposit without seeing the goat does happen (travelling over state lines for example), but most of the time, see it as a red flag.

2. They require the goat to be paid for online (ie. Paypal, Zelle, or other payment service).
This is a big red flag, and is a double one when they require a friends and family payment, due to the inability to get your money back when you don't get the goat.

3. Post goats to good to be true.
Blue eyed, tri color, polled doe kid with moonspots and milking stars on both sides of the family for only $150! (trust me, this is good in the dairy goat world) Seems a little odd, right? Well, it's because it is odd, and even if it isn't a scam, I would say it could be sick or her parents aren't who they were registered as.

4. Ask for more money
If you already gave the "breeder" $150, and then they say there is an issue with transport that requires an additional money transfer, it's almost certainly a scam, as typically breeders don't require additional payment, nor do they require a full payment for a goat you haven't got yet (now this may have exceptions for overstate lines and large transports across county, but I don't do that, so no concerns here).

5. You can't seem to get pictures
If the seller can't provide you with any photos, and if the photos don't match, stay away.

I hope these steps can help you to prevent being scammed in goat, or any other animal, buying!

So this is kinda late (considering the does are already in with the bucks, whoops), but here are 3/4 remaining breeding pairs!
Breeding pair #4
Spurwood Minis Peach x Echo Springs Gunner
This is the next best cross for Peach, as Gunner and Russell were fairly similar in shape in structure. Still hoping we can increase the width between her hocks and correct her slight toe out as a result of her hocks.

Breeding pair #5
Sweet Pea Pygmies Rhubarb Pi x Echo Springs Gunner
Rhubarb is our up and coming first freshener, and I'm excited to see her kids. I'm hoping to get some more smoothness of blending and less random white, otherwise there isn't much to improve. Oh, and because Gunner's family is known for multiples, I'm hoping to add that to Rhubarb to prevent more single child syndrome.

Breeding pair #6
GVS Pygmies Midnight Trouble (aka Precious) x Echo Springs Gunner
Precious is an older doe we added to the herd this year with some great lines! Really, we aren't looking to improve much to start, but are breeding her to Gunner to keep her overall structure and body capacity intact. I'm currently planning to retain a doe kid from this pairing.

Breeding Pair #3
Sweet Pea Pygmies Sage UR and Echo Springs Gunner
This is a new breeding pair, that I hope will play on both their strengths, while adding strenght of bone and Gunner's amazing kidding history! I'm hoping for some does!
☆☆☆Kids will unregistered, with the exception of the wethers being possibly certified if desired☆☆☆☆

Our Story

Started in 2013 as a hobby/pet, Sweet Pea Pygmies started after buying twin unregistered doelings, Sweet Pea and Lola, from our friends in 4-H. The following year we added their niece, Bluebell, and our love for the breed grew even more. After breeding the twins, we had 3 kids born in Spring of 2015. One of Lola's twin does was retained, Luna. Now, three years later, we have a herd of 5 does, three of which are unregistered, and two registered.
