EMERGENCY FOSTERS OR ADOPTERS NEEDED:

These 3 sibling cats are in dire need of placement (together or separately) ASAP. They are 8-9 years old, spayed/neutered, in good health, and "fully vetted."

All 3 are extremely affectionate and friendly with humans and other cats, and they would likely adjust to a dog as well.
Grey/White - female
Orange/White - male
Black/White - male

Last month, the American Psychological Association reported that almost 9 out of 10 (89%) of Americans polled felt emotional and/or financial stress during the holidays, due to missing loved ones, family conflicts, or pressures around store-bought gift-buying.

In an almost simultaneous social media poll, readers were asked, "What are life's greatest gifts?" Among the most consistent responses, none were store-bought. They included: health, unconditional love, and animals. If you have even one of the three, consider yourself fortunate. If you have none of the three, rescuing or interacting with an animal can instantly fulfill two.

Even if you have no ability to see a dog or cat today, ThE HoUnD! (aka Allou) and Weevil are here to cheer you. Merry Christmas, Happy Howl-idays (per HoUnD!) and as always, thank you so much for the cards and greetings.

After many years of work by animal advocates across the state, this bill finally passed the New York Legislature this past summer; however, the governor still has not signed it with only 3 weeks left for it to be enacted. These bloodsports staged for "thrills," cash, and prizes have been allowed to continue under the false guise of being "wildlife management." Please make a quick call - the more calls received, the more likely she is to sign.

Handsome EthVet patient Leonard (Woodstock, NY), modeling the type of corrugated cardboard scratching post recommended by Ethical Veterinary.

If a scratching post:
1.) Moves around while the cat is scratching it, or
2.) Does not allow the cat to *fully* stretch its front limbs across it...

the cat will prefer furniture instead, since furniture fulfills both criteria!

*Most* scratching posts on the market do not come close to fulfilling the basic criteria. Do not waste money on a scratching post unless it is dense/immobile and large enough in size.

In addition, it's worth knowing that cats have been found to prefer corrugated cardboard as their scratching substrate; just make sure you replace it when it's worn out.

Ideally, cats should have both vertical and horizontal scratching posts in the home; some will only use one type but not the other.

Exciting news!!!

Although I reached full capacity for new clients a while back, I've finally launched the page on Instagram. This page will give my best (hopefully daily) general animal health and advocacy tips to any interested dog/cat parent anywhere in the county, nation, or world.

Tips will be based mainly on The Home Guide to Dog and Cat Care, as well as the most frequently asked general questions I've received from clients and fellow veterinarians over the last 15 years.

My intention is for this proactive educational project to save a lot of lives, reduce preventable animal distress, and save animal parents substantial money and heartache along the way.

If you have an IG account, please follow along and share far and wide with those who want to advocate for their animal(s) at the vet's office and beyond.

Thank you everyone, for your continued support over the last decade plus...it has been an ever-rewarding adventure and will keep going!
