People often ask me what it’s like living with a lot of dogs and my answer is always the same. It’s no different than living with one or two (aside from dedicating more time to them). I want to live a life with dogs in it, not a life annoyed that I have dogs.
Managing a larger pack is easy because my dogs know exactly what is expected of them. I set them all up for success by showing them exactly how I want them to live in my world and giving them structure to prevent things I don’t want, until they are ready for more freedoms.
Of course, I still must dedicate a lot of time to my dogs. I can’t expect them to be perfect if I’m not giving them an outlet with physical and mental exercise. I work with each dog individually every single day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. It’s important that my dogs have a healthy relationship with me and find more value in me than eachother.
Before adding another dog to your household, it’s important to ask yourself if your current dog is truly where they need to be training wise. It will make life so much easier!
