Lake Animal Hospital is a locally owned veterinary clinic that specializes in dogs and cats, although we have seen birds, rats, ferrets, rabbits, and turtles. Who need some cute kitten pictures? 🐱

These three were found on W 8th street a week ago. We had trouble figuring out there age because their size didn't match with their development! When they were brought in, at 4 weeks old, they were barley 9 ounces. Now at 5 weeks, they have big appetizes and bigger voices. 🗣

Artemis is the biggest out of the three but tends get bullied when there is food, her foster mom helps her out though. Apollo has the most energy out of them all, even back on day one.⚡️ Then there is Athena, small but mighty. Do not get in her way for food, she has quite the fight for being the smallest. 💪

They are weaning off of formula and won't be ready for adoption until at least 10/13, when they are 8 weeks old.

ADOPTABLE 🩷
Bubbles had been going through treatment for several infections one after the other since her day of intake in July, and she finally recieved her last dose of medication last week. 💊 Her two sisters Buttercup and Blossom are almost done with their treatment, but Bubbles is ahead of the game and ready for adoption! 🫧

Bubbles is 4 months old with a passion for purring, playing, and chewing on arm rests apparently. 🧶 Pumpkin is not quite sure what to think of his “mini-me”, but he’d sure be glad to see her go to a forever home! 🏠

Check out our two FIV+ cats, Sebastian and Olive! 🐄🫒 Both of them don’t let their weakened immune systems slow them down one bit. 💪🏻 Cats with FIV often get turned down by potential adopters because of their diagnosis and the misconceptions that come with it. FIV is NOT a death sentence, and they are NOT permanently “sick”. 🙅🏼‍♀️ FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and is similar to HIV in humans. Cats with this virus may be more susceptible to illness and infection, and they may take longer to recover if they’ve contracted something, but most cats with FIV live long and healthy lives when kept in a clean environment🧽, being fed a healthy diet🍽️, and brought to the vet regularly for checkups. 🩺 All things that should already be done for any other cat that you own!

And no need to worry if you have a cat already at home. It is often believed that FIV+ cats can only be placed in a home alone or with other positive cats to eliminate spread of the virus. This is just not true. Sebastian and Olive can only spread their FIV to another cat if they were to engage in a serious fight with a deep bite wound. The saliva of the infected cat must directly enter the bloodstream of a negative cat for it to spread. 👅💦➡️🩸 This means that sharing food and water bowls, litter boxes, and grooming each other is safe for them to do! 🐱💞🐱As long as you properly introduce the cats gradually and safely, you should not need to worry about any fighting. Especially with these two who are just the friendliest guys under the sun. ☀️🥰

These two kittens were found in a drainpipe in Havelock, IA today. Is there anyone out there who has the resources and the experience to take these kittens in and give them the care that they need? The staff member interacting with Pancho here was a stranger to him once, but look at what he is capable of once you earn his trust! Pancho bit a stranger in the past and ended up here, no longer allowed to reside within city limits. We don’t want that one incident to define him. Pancho will make a great dog for someone who is dedicated to his success. He just needs you to take it slow, move at his pace, and understand that affection and trust isn’t forced, it’s earned over a period of time. A period of time that will be so worth it if it means Pancho gets his second chance at a furever home.

If you are a calm, confident, patient, and dog experienced individual who lives outside Storm Lake city limits, has a heart for the misunderstood, and a willingness to give Pancho a fair chance, please let us know, and we’d love to have you begin the process of coming here regularly to spend time just simply being around him.

Not the greatest pictures, but we wanted to get their faces out there. Meet Olive, Moon, Jack, and Ophelia! These 4 sweethearts found their way here after a devastating house fire that left them homeless. Sadly, their owner is no longer able to provide them with the proper care and shelter that they need. They are now in our care looking for their new home(s).

🫒Olive: Male, black, 3 yo., FIV+
🌙Moon: Female, black, 1 yo.
🧶Jack: Male, silver tabby, 7 mo. (Ophelia’s brother)
🎀Ophelia: Female, black, 7 mo. (Jack’s sister)

All four of these cats are super duper friendly, affectionate, and sweet with humans and each other. All they want is to cuddle and spend time with you! If you would like to welcome one or more of them into your home, fill out an application today!

Sebastian is a little lonely now with his two favorite playmates gone. He loved chasing Scuttle and batting at Marble and just hanging out with them🐈. Even with new faces in the cat room, it's just not the same. He would love to have another cat to play with❤. Sebastian is FIV+ which means that he has a compromised immune system, but with the right introductions, he can live with other cats just fine.
