Long overdue post, but we just wanted to say a big thank you to Ellen Smith for her generous donation of $200 that went toward Scuttle’s amputation! 🤲🏻❤️ He has healed beautifully and is even feeling well enough to make friends! Sebastian, who is FIV+, and Scuttle love to wrestle and play with each other. They make the cutest pair. 💞 Both are looking for their forever homes and are available for adoption! 🖤🤍 Thank you so much Ellen, for supporting Scuttle on his journey to a new home!🐾🐾

Peach has found her person! 🎉 Her new owner had sent in an application last year, waiting for an orange long haired cat. We knew Peach was just what he was looking for, and he fell in love right when we placed her in his arms. 🍑 Thank you so much for adopting!! 🧡

Let’s talk about Kong! We owe it to Kong’s interested potential adopters to be honest and transparent about his past and his reactivity, even if it’s not very pretty. Kong originally found himself here on a rabies watch after he was running loose in town and attacked another dog who was nearby with his owner. Both the dog and the owner sustained serious puncture wounds after the owner covered her dog with her arms to try and protect him. Kong was hyper-focused on getting to the other dog and ended up biting her arms in the process.

Since he has been here in a kennel environment, Kong has become reactive toward the other dogs that he is in close proximity with. Our runs have a gap in the doors where the dogs like to stick their paws through. If Kong is not being controlled on leash, he will go after those paws and bite them, having injured a couple of our dogs that way. Unfortunately, the way that our kennels are set up, crammed into such a small space, the layout does not allow for us to keep Kong away from those situations every time we are moving him in and out, posing a risk to our other dogs and chore staff who are having to handle him in the heightened, reactive state that he enters when he is barking, growling, and lunging at the kennel doors of the other dogs.

When Kong has been brought outside on leash with those same dogs that he is reactive toward indoors, his demeanor is completely different. Kong will lay down, sit, and walk alongside those dogs, tail wagging loosely and a light pant. Calm and content to be in the same space. We have tested him with a few different dogs with varying temperaments. He did well with a calm and friendly dog, a snappy and growly dog that he’d never seen before, and even his arch nemesis, Muffin. When Lucy snapped at him several times, Kong backed off and didn’t engage in any fighting or confrontation. It is possible that the loud, stressful, overstimulating kennel rooms and runs are causing him to be reactive, and once he is outside on leash, he is calmer and more accepting of new dogs. It is important to remember though that the original attack that led him here in the first place occurred when Kong was off leash and roaming- not in a loud kennel room. We can’t know all of the details surrounding the specific circumstances that led up to the event, but we do know that it happened, and it’s something to keep in mind.

Kong definitely has the potential to live with other dogs, but it needs to be handled by an experienced dog owner who can read their body language and introduce them the right way. Dogs should not be expected to get along immediately. It takes long periods of separation and gradual increases in interactions at the dogs pace to make sure that everyone is comfortable and that they have the best chance of success in the long run. We have seen what can happen when dogs are introduced the wrong way, and we have seen what Kong is capable of if he is put into stressful situations.

We know Kong would make a great dog for someone and deserves a chance at a new life, but keeping him here for too much longer is putting our other dogs at risk. He has sadly been scheduled for euthanasia for 7/16/25. It’s not something we want to do, but like we mentioned, our kennel setup is not ideal, and it makes it difficult to keep everyone out of harms way. We are asking around to other rescues near and far, trying to find placement for him, but when they hear that Kong has a bite history, it’s an immediate “no” for most places, and we don’t get any response. Not to mention that most every other shelter is full, just like we are. While we continue searching for other rescues, his best chance right now at being saved is getting adopted by someone who understands his situation and can see his potential!

Enough about Kong’s struggles, let’s talk about his true personality! Kong, our loving, happy, playful, cuddly 3 yo. Pittie is looking for his forever home! We don’t think he’d ever played with a squeaker toy before because he was quite hesitant at first, but he caught on quick and now thinks that they are the best thing ever! Well, maybe not the best thing ever- that title would have to go to being pet by his favorite humans. Kong is a total lovebug and will take all of the attention and cuddles that we can give. He especially loves butt scratches. We don’t think he had much practice on a leash considering going for a walk means “let’s race!” in his brain, but every time we take him out he improves more and more. All Kong wants is a lap to sprawl out across, a squeaker toy to chew on, a warm patch of grass to explore and lounge on, and patient humans who will set him up for success. If you can give him those 4 things, he will be a happy dog and you will be a happy human!

We have recently recieved concerns about our increase in pricing for certain items. Due to inflation and not having adjusted our prices since 2016, we have had to increase pricing for all of our food that we sell here and medications prescribed. Thank you for your understanding!

UPDATE: Adopted
❗️STRAY❗️
This pregnant mama climbed into someone’s car last night in the Walmart parking lot, searching for someone to help her out! She’s about ready to pop in the next couple weeks, and we count at least 5 squirmy babies inside that big round tummy of hers- possibly 7 😳. She’s super friendly- is anyone missing her?

URGENT ❗️MAX CAPACITY❗️EUTH DATES SET❗️
No time for perfect, posed photos. No time for elaborate captions. We are quite literally overflowing with dogs, and we are desperate for adoptions. Large dogs cramped in small cages, 2 dogs living outdoors in the shade with a fan because we don’t have space inside, 2 dogs that were adopted from us being returned this week, and 5 dogs with a bite history that we believe still deserve a chance- 2 of which are set to be euthanized on July 17th if we cannot get them out of here. More dogs are coming in than dogs going out. We have two additional dogs not even pictured- one is here for a rabies watch and one has a pending adoption. This is serious. We need help. The dogs need help.

Please. Share, tell your friends, fill out an application. No meet and greets will be allowed unless your application is approved. We don’t have the time to bring dogs up front to meet you if you aren’t serious. Filling out an application will let us know that you are. Message us with additional questions about the dogs, or check out our website/ past posts. And please- keep a close eye on your pets. We seriously cannot handle anymore dogs being brought here. When we say we’re full, we mean it, and we’re running out of time.

EDIT: We want to make clear that we have been looking into other rescues, and that we are not euthanizing all of the dogs. The two dogs on the euthanasia list have specific behavioral issues that are putting our chore staff and the other dogs being housed here at risk of injury.

Kitten season has hit us hard this year, and we could really use your help! Fancy Feast Kitten Paté is our go to food of choice for our tiniest critters, and with 12 of them and counting in our care, we go through it quite quickly. Anyone willing to pick up a box or even just a few individual cans from Walmart and bring it our way will be helping us out tremendously during this busy and stressful time.🩵 The kittens thank you!! 🐾🐱

UPDATE: Please make sure you choose the specific “KITTEN” variety, not adult. We will use whatever has been donated already, but we are most in need of KITTEN paté at this time!
