With holidays right around the corner, fall is in full swing!
Keep your pet safe with this list of things to avoid this season!
🌽Never let your dog chew on a corn cob - decoration or otherwise - as they can cause an obstruction.
🌱Outdoor plants now inside-keep them away from your dog or cat if they are poisonous.
🪻Keep your pets inside while you’re planting fall bulbs.
🍄‍🟫Always check fertilizers and mulches for mold.
🍄Keep pets away from potentially poisonous mushrooms in the yard.
🌳Keep your pets away from acorns. They cause digestive issues, but they can also be a choking hazard and can damage teeth.

Did you know just like the Municipal Pound program (what we use to make sure all our pets go out fully vetted), the state offers a Low Income voucher program?

“The Low-Income program helps CT residents to vaccinate and sterilize their owned pets. To be eligible for benefits, recipients must be a Connecticut resident and on one of six public assistance programs outlined in C.G.S. Sec. 22-380e and approved by the Department of Social Services. Once participation is confirmed, vouchers are then issued by the APCP to low-income recipients for up to two pets. The voucher will provide a one-time sterilization benefit of $80 for a male cat, $120 for a female cat, $180 for a male dog and $200 for a female dog.
Please note: If the veterinarian’s spay/neuter fee exceeds the voucher amount, the eligible owner is responsible for the difference. In addition, payment for any additional procedures and/or medications is the responsibility of the pet owner. Pets too young or sick may be granted a medical extension only by a CT participating veterinarian.
⭐️The program will begin accepting applications on Monday, November 4th, 2024. Additional information for the application process will become available by the end of October.”

We combined our and our favorite young man together for the best post yet!

Did you know about the APCP (Animal Population Control Program)? In 1995, Connecticut established an Animal Population Program to help reduce the number of unwanted pets with spaying/neutering and decreasing the spread of disease by providing core vaccinations. This program has several benefits:
• Low Income Program- provides help to families
participating in a state assistance program to
spay/neuter and vaccinate their owned pets • Feral Cat Program- aids non-profit rescues in
spay/neuter and vaccination for populations of feral
cats
• Municipal Pound Pet Program- provides spay/neuter
and vaccination benefits for any pet that is adopted
from a Connecticut Municipal facility.

This program is funded with state dog licensing, the $45 fee in municipal shelter adoptions, and getting a “Caring for Pets” license plate that can be purchased from the DMV; the proceeds of the sale go directly towards the Animal Population Control Program.

And the best help? Geoffrey, who every year sells the most delicious baked goods, to raise funds that allows us to do additional bloodwork/procedures and send our pets in tip top shape!
At the Celebrate Mansfield festival Geoffrey raised $464 for our shelter!!

He’s pictured here with our adoptable Whitney! Idina, also up for adoption, double checked the donations!
They are both available on and applications are on our website

Did you know the majority of calls/cases our office deals with are with not neutered/spayed animals?

One of the best things you can do for your pet is fix them! “Any change will be for the better. After being altered, your pet will be less aggressive toward other dogs or cats, have a better personality, and will be less likely to wander. Spraying (urine marking), which is often done by dogs and cats to mark their territory, diminishes or ceases after pets are altered”

A GREAT article with more information and reasons to spay/neuter⬇️⬇️⬇️
