Meet Max and Bubba!!!
Max is an older paint gelding, who is a bit under weight possibly due to teeth but he is loving his soaked hay cubes and senior feed.
Bubba is a 15 yr old lil stud muffin. His hind feet were so long they had curled under and started twisting his legs. We did a lil bit of correction trims when we got back home to help him be more comfortable. Soft bedding and some pain meds to help.
Such cuties.

This girl named Journey is such a special girl. We have walked back and forth from her inside stall to her outside stall multiple times today with all the storms coming through our area. The dentist also aged her as a yearling. She may end up being a good sized girl when she's done growing.

Great information for our local area for the droughts we have had.

Great information for our local area for the droughts we have had.

If you are in this drought and your horses are on grass there are some things to consider.

Grass that is trying to survive with little water is in a state of stress. It will almost always test lower in nutritive value if the water has been absent very long. Vitamin e is one very important thing to think about in a drought state if you are grazing your horses.

Not only will the grass have less E at this time, but your horses also won't have the opportunity to store it to get through the winter with a lack like nature designed them to do.

If your horse has an illness or injury, E is one of the things that the equine body uses to help heal itself. Therefore, if it is short already in the grass, then your horse has to fight something off, he/she may be whoppingly short and start showing symptoms of ataxia (More people will start to think EPM but will not have the spinal tap performed ) or itchiness or eye issues.

If you are living in drought, you really might need to consider supplementing with a quality source of Vitamin e and maybe even continuing in some form throughout the winter.

This really dry grass is usually found to be much lower in protein content also. You may notice that your horses look kind of meh or perhaps your youngsters don't quite appear to be thriving. It may be necessary for you to add a commercial source of protein if you are seeing these things. It is also important to remember that your hay grown during drought will Also be lower in protein, so getting equines through winter looking great may take more effort on your part.

We already know that stressed grass is grass that high in NSC, and going into fall this can be a double whammy.

Make sure that you are watching the crest on your horse and also how they are walking and turning a curve at least once per day and preferably twice.

If you have horses that already struggle with laminitis or EMS or Cushing's then you REALLY REALLY need to take protective measures.

Once a horse has had a bout with laminitis then you owe it to them to never let it happen again. This is Work with a capital W and takes a lot of love, effort and diligence on your part.

During this drought and the following winter, it may help you to take similar stance pictures in 3-week intervals for comparison. Sometimes we have a "blind" effect because we see them every day and are not as apt to notice changes.

"Hey there, kind humans! ๐Ÿด
We're part of the lucky herd here at Angel Wings Equine Rescue, and we're feeling better each day with all the love and care we get. But thereโ€™s one little thing we still need some help withโ€”our teeth!

We havenโ€™t seen an equine dentist in a long, long time, which means our mouths could use a good check-up. We have a hard time chewing and sometimes feel a bit uncomfortable, especially those of us who are older, like Percy, who has no front teeth. The nice folks here want to make sure weโ€™re not in pain and can munch on our food happily, but visits from the equine dentist arenโ€™t cheap.

Would you consider sponsoring our dental care? Your support means we can keep getting healthier and maybe even find a forever home soon. Every bit helps, and every dollar brings us closer to happier, healthier smiles!

With love and a big โ€˜neighโ€™ of thanks,
The Angel Wings Herd ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’•

Sacred Journey:::
Look at our girl!!! She trusted us enough to walk out to the round pen with us. Took our time and steps at a time but she was very good.. she really likes the sanctuary of her stall but now she can see the other horses for a bit and know she is not alone. She keeps coming over for butt scratches. And hangs out with me.. she's so special. I'm so happy and proud of her. Step by step.

Goodnight from Journey!! She's been up all day long. She is so sweet and now asking for scratches everywhere. SMH.. she's a hoot. I have laughed and smiled a lot with her today.
I don't know what they did to her before and during that trip from Wyoming, to make the hauler/owner tell us how crazy and wild she was. But she has never shown us any part of that. She is patient and let's me work on her with no halter. Prayers if she gets down tonight that she has the strength to get back up on her own, if not we'll be there to help her stand. She is now showing signs of her sores surfacing of being down so long. But we will treat her as they show up. Her muscles are starting to waken up as she is asking to be rubbed all over and she will position herself next to for what she wants rubbed. She's quite the communicator and I love it. Goodnight. Today has been a blessed day!! Thank you.

Journey was down this morning, but had a bit more energy and strength so all I had to do was help hold her rear end up, she got up like a cow, but she did it!! I'm so proud of her. She took all her meds like a champ, still eating and drinking good. She had some visitors this morning and was very nice saying hi. I'm sure one day she'll show her wild side but she still knows we are here to help her.
We had an angel donate her whole vet bill, so we are so thankful to you all who help. This month has been full of miracles, yes we are tired, but have definitely counted the blessings. One donor this month paid for the rescues hay for the whole winter. She is a gift from above like all of our donors. We can't do this without you and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts . ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ God bless you!

This pony is growing up to move and look like a small/medium hunter type pony. He is such a lil cutie. He really needs to find his own lil human soon. He will be a lot of fun, and he's already had so much don with him and been exposed to a lot. Adoption Fee has been dropped for months of November and December for a Christmas pony.

We need immediate vet bill money so I'll be posting horses up for adoption.

Lucille is available for adoption! Weanling registered Tennessee walking filly. She is halter broke, ties, loads well, and has been body clipped over the summer. She has been growing like a w**d and has the longest, outreaching legs ever! Very big stride and gait. She's so cute and will be a fun baby. She did come to us with a fractured sesamoid bone in her left hind foot. It was x-rayed when it happened as a very young foal and just re-x-rayed on Thursday. The fracture is still present but she doesn't have any lameness issues currently. The vet said she will be broodmares sound and likely well enough to be a trail horse. If you are interested in adopting her and would like to discuss this more please message or call us. I will get her registration papers this week. She should be homozygous for roan.

Well, our girl has been standing for 5 hours already. The vet was just here and journey was all over the place, walking forward, backwards, sideways and all during her treatment and exam. She's eating, drinking, pooping, and peeing all standing up. She was treated for EPM as a precautionary, so she will be on meds all week long. Although she is doing great, she's not out of the woods as she spent a lot of time on the ground. Y'all helped us get her home, and we are so appreciative to all your support. She went from a very wild filly to one who looks for you to be next to her in just 2 days. I know she's already part of my heart.. y'all , I'm so happy right now that she's been standing so long on her own. ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—

A short hello from Journey. She was desperately trying to get up when we came back to the barn this afternoon, and she even whinnied at us, it was the cutest!!! So she's up for a bit and we'll let her rest when she asks to lay down.. she has been rubbed down with liniment to help her body, she will hopefully start EPM meds when the vet gets here later ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ. We went to the store to get more supplements to help her muscle recover and get her replenished. She refuses to eat grain so oral is all she can have. She may get more fluids again tonight, but she is drinking very well. Keep praying for Journey!!
