Peeking out from his cozy box is Oreo, a 7-year-old domestic longhair with the sweetest little face! He’s currently sporting a sleek new look, thanks to a much-needed buzzcut after arriving with some seriously tangled mats—but don’t worry, his luxurious locks will grow back in no time

Cute face and hairstyle aside, Oreo is an incredibly friendly cat who absolutely adores attention. His previous owners shared that he loves being held, enjoys pets, and can’t resist playing with anything that moves or has a bell attached (bonus points for toys with both!). Believe it or not, Oreo was even known to tolerate wearing sweaters—though we can’t promise he loved them as much as his humans did! While he’s been a bit shy during his time at the shelter, Oreo is looking for a patient and understanding home where he can truly shine. He’d prefer to be the only cat in his new home, so he can soak up all the love and attention.

Does Oreo sound like the guy for you?

2025 has not been too kind to this gorgeous girl… but we’re determined to make it right. 🤎

Earlier this month, 10-year-old Ferber was surrendered to us when her beloved owner passed away. The abrupt change in routine has understandably been a lot for this friendly little lady, who values snuggle time above all else. Our dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure every animal in our care feels safe and loved; but, no matter how hard we try, we know there’s no substitute for the warmth and comfort of Home. We’re certain this girl is longing for quiet, slow evenings spent snuggled up on the couch with her person.

Ferber has a whole lotta personality in her 30-pound body and is an absolute treat to be around. She’s a Beagle mix and does have some of those breed-specific tendencies (including an adorable little howl when she gets excited). She has a good amount of energy, and will greet you with a wagging tail and some adorable little hops when you approach her with a leash in hand. She would be a great adventure buddy—so long as you don’t forget that every adventure should be followed up with ample snuggle time. 🥰

Does Ferber sound like your kinda girl? Our team would love to introduce you to her! Stop by our Adoption Center at 104 Portsmouth Avenue in Stratham, NH between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. any day except Wednesday (closed).

When we introduced you to Capri just last week, we shared her story as a shy, reclusive kitten seeking a calm and patient home. Today, we’re overjoyed to tell you that Capri, now named Elsie, found exactly that—and she’s already blossoming in ways we could have only dreamed.

Elsie now shares her new home with her shy feline brother, Albie. Though the two haven’t officially met yet, their mom describes Albie as having a gentle curiosity about his new sister. Albie’s own journey to confidence has been slow but steady, and his mom believes Elsie’s calm, quiet nature will be the perfect match for him in time.

And Elsie? She’s making remarkable strides! Though she spent her first two days mostly hiding—a behavior we anticipated—her mom has approached her with patience, love, and plenty of space to feel safe. By the end of day two, Elsie surprised everyone by sitting confidently in a desk chair, letting her new mom pet her, and even showing her playful side. She’s already graced her family with the sweetest little purrs and the ultimate sign of trust: rolling over to show her belly.

Stories like Elsie’s remind us how an animal’s behavior can change when they leave the shelter and find the safety and stability of a loving home. In just a few days, Elsie transformed from a timid kitten who stayed tucked in the corners into a more curious companion who no longer hides in the shadows.

To Elsie’s new family, thank you for seeing the potential in this shy girl and giving her the space to shine. We can’t wait to see how her bond with Albie grows and how her personality continues to unfold!

Say hello to Russell, an affectionate and sometimes goofy 2-year-old bully breed mix weighing in at 67 pounds! Don’t let his size fool you—Russell is 100% convinced he’s a lap dog and will gladly snuggle up for some quality cuddle time.

This active guy looks forward to his outdoor playtime every day. In fact, there's not much in life he enjoys more than zooming around like the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes within the confines of our gated play area!

Russell is a strong boy and can sometimes forget his own strength, tending to be a bit strong on leash. However, with the right training, we’re confident he’ll improve his leash manners in no time. He has also shown some resource-guarding behavior in the past, so it’s important for him and any future canine siblings to enjoy feeding and toy time separately. This kind of setup will help ensure everyone feels comfortable and respected, as Russell values his personal space in these moments.

Are you ready to welcome this big-hearted, playful, and loyal pup into your life? Russell can’t wait to meet you and become the best companion you could ask for!

Dwayne is a dashing potbellied pig on a mission to find his forever home! This friendly fellow has a big personality and an even bigger sense of adventure—in fact, he was actually found out and about exploring a neighborhood! 😅 Dwayne was not claimed by his former family, so we're excited to help him find his perfect match. To keep his wanderlust in check, Dwayne will need a home with sturdy fencing to ensure he stays safe and sound.

Since Dwayne isn’t castrated, his future piggy companions should be other males or spayed females to keep things harmonious. He’s an active guy who thrives on fun, so he’ll need piggy pals or plenty of enrichment activities to keep his clever mind and happy snout busy.

Dwayne comes with a clean bill of health. He’s up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and ready to trot right into your heart. If he seems like the guy for you or you have any questions, please reach out to us at [email protected] today!

Want to come by and see Dwayne in person? Stop by any day between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Please note, our Adoption Center (dogs, cats, small animals) is open during those same hours but closed on Wednesdays. We are located at 104 Portsmouth Avenue in Stratham, NH and hope to see you soon! ♥️

While you can't adopt every single animal that pulls on your heartstrings, you CAN still make a profound difference to them by becoming an Adoption Angel. This sponsorship program allows you to make one tax-deductible donation to help provide shelter, medical care, enrichment and hope to animals in our care for an entire calendar year.

Are you interested in becoming an Adoption Angel? Our Angels are recognized with a brushed silver tone plaque that will hang on our kennels or stalls for the year (depending on what type of animal they choose to sponsor)... and each plaque carries a message that is unique to that sponsor.

Do you want to give hope and comfort to animals in need for an entire year? Learn about becoming an Adoption Angel here: nhspca.org/adoption-angel-sponsorship/ ♥️

Looking for a way to make a big difference this year? Our team would love for you to consider becoming a barn volunteer at the New Hampshire SPCA! 🐴

UPDATE: Capri has been adopted! ❤ When an animal comes to us seeking a second chance, we can only imagine the journey they've been on—the challenges and heartbreaks that have shaped their behavior. That’s why we meet little Capri with nothing but understanding and patience, embracing her shyness as a part of her story.

From the moment she arrived, 7-month-old Capri was extremely reclusive, spending her days curled tightly in the safety of a corner, away from the world. It was clear she needed time, understanding, and a space where she could feel truly safe. To help her come out of her shell and to better understand her unique personality, we sent Capri to live with a kind and loving foster family for a few weeks.

In her foster home, Capri’s shy nature has not changed much, but with her foster family’s patience and gentle encouragement, she began taking small steps toward becoming more comfortable. For the most part, she wasn’t very interested in human attention, but she never hissed, scratched, or lashed out at anyone when approached—a small but meaningful victory. With a bit of coaxing, Capri would emerge from her hiding spots and settle in, sitting quietly with her foster mom or their 8-year-old child, as long as she could find security under the warmth of a blanket. We also discovered that Capri gets along well with other cats. Though she and the resident cat didn’t interact much, they coexisted peacefully and even shared the same bed one night,

Capri is looking for a special home where she can feel safe and loved, whether she decides to come out of her shell or continue living life on her own quiet terms. She may never be a lap cat, and that’s okay. If you have a soft spot for shy kitties and a calm home where she can feel secure, Capri could be the perfect addition to your life.
