Will you help animals like Penny this holiday season? 🤝
Penny arrived in the arms of a kind-hearted person who found her alone, trembling, and blind. Her eyes were swollen, watering, and ruptured. The signs of infection were clear and had already led to blindness in both eyes. We started medication to fight the infection and hand-fed her to rebuild her strength. As soon as she was stable enough, she underwent surgery to remove her eyes before things could get even worse for Penny. ❤️‍🩹
The morning after her procedure, she perked up upon hearing her first visitors, warmly greeting her care team and rolling over for belly rubs. As her incisions healed, her joyful spirit began to shine. Contentment turned to bouncy tail-wags whenever we approached, and we were more than happy to return all the love she had to give. Once she was medically cleared for adoption, Penny wasted no time finding a loving home and has been thriving there ever since.
Please consider a gift of any size to support animals like Penny during this crucial time of year. As part of our Hope’s Lights campaign, you can even sponsor a holiday light at WHS in honor of someone special, or in memory of a lost pet or loved one: www.wihumane.org/hope
Thank you so much for shining a light on animals in need ♥

Every summer for the last 9 years now, Paul & Julie’s flower and vegetable stand in Ephraim has collected funds for the animals at the WHS Door County Campus. This year alone, they raised $1,647! 🎉
As if this wasn't enough, they also rescued a pregnant dog from the side of the road! After helping mom raise her 10 puppies who are now in loving homes, Paul and Julie welcomed Betty as part of their own family.❤️
We are endlessly grateful for their kindness and support 💚 The Door County community is truly amazing!

Penny was blind, alone, and helpless when a kind-hearted passerby wrapped her in a towel and brought her to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
Her eyes were swollen and ruptured, which led to complete blindness. Our veterinary team started Penny on pain meds and antibiotics, and as soon as she was stable enough for surgery, we removed her eyes before things could get even worse. Today, Penny is thriving in a loving home. ❤️

⭐Giving hope is an essential part of what our community does – and it wouldn’t be possible without you. Hope propels us forward, to create a better future for all of us, animals and people alike.

✨ We would like to introduce you to some special pups in search of loving homes! These pups are some of the dogs we received after Hurricanes Helene and Milton hit the Southern US. They were already in their local shelter when the storm hit and were sent north to find homes, making room in their original shelter for all the animals newly displaced by the hurricanes.
Now they are ready to meet you, put their southern charm to use, and join your family!
If you’d like the final leg of one pup’s journey to end in your home, be sure to come meet them today! 💖

There's no way to know how long 4-month-old Cubbie was painfully wedged in the crook of a tree, but it caused such significant swelling and pressure sores that he could no longer use his back legs by the time he was found. One of our amazing veterinarians took him home to administer meds, treat his wounds, and perform daily physical therapy. After 5 weeks, he was back on his feet, racing around her house like any other kitten 💖
As you've likely seen in headlines, shelters – including WHS – are scrambling to keep up with incredibly high demand for services while donations struggle to keep up. If you would consider donating just $7 towards the ever-rising costs of care for animals like Cubbie, it would mean the world to us! You can give using the Donate button here or online at https://wihumane.me/SupportCubbie. Thank you so, so much!

💜 Did you know it's National Estate Planning Awareness Week?
Thinking ahead and making plans for the future is so important – for everyone! It’s never too early to give yourself peace of mind by ensuring a thoughtful estate plan is in place.
After a life-changing experience with WHS, Linda G. made the meaningful decision to include WHS in her estate plans and joined fellow dedicated supporters in WHS’s Buster’s Legacy Society…
“When I retired from my library career, I knew I still wanted to make a difference in the world…I became a [WHS] volunteer in September of 2008…I was doing dog bathing at the time, and I will never forget the very first dog that I gave a bath to that came from this puppy mill. I think there were more of my tears in the bathtub at that time than there was water from the faucet. All of a sudden, he let out a deep sigh - and relaxed - and buried his little face in my neck. There and then, I knew I had found my legacy… And it was going to be helping animals through the Wisconsin Humane Society. The Wisconsin Humane Society SAVES LIVES every day. And I am going to be able to help continue that mission even after I’m gone, by being a member of Buster’s Legacy Society.”

With a simple plan to shape your legacy, you can make an incredible difference for animals and the people who love them ❤️
You can learn more about planned giving options and joining our Buster's Legacy Society (which comes with incredible perks!) by visiting https://wihumane.plannedgiving.org/ or by requesting an information packet be sent to you here: https://wihumane.plannedgiving.org/will-trust-gifts/intent-form

Your generosity makes our work possible 🤝 Thank you.

Aren’t seeing your match in the shelter? Explore our Virtual Rehoming page to discover incredible pets actively looking for caring individuals! By utilizing the online resource Home To Home™, potential adopters are able to view animals out in the community who are in need of new families. This allows the animals to search for an adopter from the comfort of their current home, plus it leaves more room at the shelter for animals who don't already have an advocate.
All listings contain information from the current owners whom you’ll work with directly to find out more about the animal’s personality, ideal living situation, and to coordinate adoption.
If you're looking for a new best friend, be sure to bookmark this link: www.wihumane.org/virtual-rehoming. Choose “Seeking a new pet,” then click on the photo gallery to view the full list of available animals ❤️

10/14/2024

A mere 10 days after we were called to support shelters affected by Hurricane Helene, we were once again mobilized to help in the wake of Hurricane Milton. On Saturday, we welcomed a flight of 26 animals from Florida shelters. The efforts, in partnership with the BISSELL Pet Foundation and Cathy Bissell, allowed for a successful evacuation of 16 cats and 10 dogs who had already been in-shelter before the storm hit, making room for the inevitable influx of displaced animals to stay in care locally in hopes of reuniting them with their families.
Some of these new arrivals may be available in the next few days, while others will need more treatment and care before they’re ready for adoption. We are so grateful to our generous community — your support makes it possible for us to respond again and again at a moment’s notice when emergencies like this arise. ❤️

Looking for ways to help? You can donate using the button below (or online at https://wihumane.me/SupportHurricaneMiltonAnimals), sign up to become a foster parent at www.wihumane.org/foster/apply, or adopt an animal at www.wihumaneorg/adopt to make room for more animals who have nowhere else to turn.
Thank you! 🩷

Our Story

The Wisconsin Humane Society is an independent non-profit working locally in the Sturgeon Bay, Green Bay, Saukville, Milwaukee, and Racine communities to help animals and the people who love them. WHS doesn't receive any general government funding, nor is WHS affiliated with any national organizations like ASPCA, HSUS, or PETA, so donors like you make a huge difference in the lives of local pets!
