Meet Opie, a very sweet 3-year-old looking for a loving home. This petite girl has a heart as big as her ears! She is very good at walking on a leash and she loves outdoors, working for treats. and walking with you for miles. She's been spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated, plus, her adoption fee has been reduced to $25, and that still includes all our regular perks likea free vet exam voucher and a starter bag of food. By utilizing the online resource Home To Home™, potential adopters are able to view animals out in the community who are in need of new families. 📢 Introducing: Benchwarmer Tryouts! A new foster-to-adopt program for select dogs at WHS!
“Benchwarmer” is the label we lovingly give to dogs who’ve been with us longer than average, along with a lower adoption fee and increased promotion. To get our benchwarmers back in the starting lineup and help them find their match, we’re excited to introduce “Benchwarmer Tryouts.” Through this program, you can take a benchwarmer home for up to 7 days to see if they’re a good fit for your team. If you fall in love and want to add them to your family’s roster, you can complete the adoption online from the comfort of your own home.

To get started with the Benchwarmer Tryouts program:
1️⃣ Complete our foster application online now at wihumane.org/foster/apply and indicate you’re interested in Benchwarmer Tryouts, so we can get you approved as soon as possible! You only need to apply once, and we encourage you to do so right away to expedite the process so you’re on the fast-track if you find a potential teammate.
2️⃣ Once you’ve been approved by our foster team, simply stop by the WHS location nearest you during adoption hours to meet the available benchwarmers and take home a pup the same day!

If you decide it’s not a great fit during the tryout period, no worries! Simply bring them back to WHS and they'll be prepped for their next tryout, having benefitted from a shelter break and the "home-court" experience! Should another benchwarmer catch your eye, you're welcome and encouraged to do another tryout until you find your match. ❤️

This Valentine’s Day, in honor of the many animals in our care at WHS, our dear friends Bridget and Mark Kirkish are offering a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10,000 for donations received now until 11:59 p.m. on February 14! Your gift will make a difference for animals like Tinkerbell and Ezekiel:
❤️ A troubling mass on Tinkerbell’s left hind paw led to surgery within two days of arriving at WHS. When test results came back indicating that the mass was cancerous, we also learned that it had spread to the surrounding tissue beyond repair. After consulting on her case and considering the best options for this 2-year-old pup, our veterinary team agreed the best chance of a long, happy life meant that Tinkerbell would need surgery to amputate her cancerous leg. Thanks to her care team and foster family, Tinkerbell is now cancer-free and has learned to navigate the world with all the strength and confidence we had hoped for!
💙 Ezekiel’s right eye had us immediately concerned when he arrived at WHS. Sunken, watery, and clouded with cataracts, our vets started the 5-month-old kitten on an aggressive course of medications. Unfortunately, the problem had advanced too far. Ezekiel’s eye remained resistant to treatment, and he underwent surgery to remove the infected eye before it could lead to more significant problems. He has made an impressive recovery thanks to all the cold compresses, meds, and love his care team and foster family have provided, and we can't wait to see him find a home of his own once he gets a clean bill of health!
