This incredible little kitten survived a plunge off the Sturgeon Bay Bridge into the waters below and lived to tell the tale, all thanks to some keen-eyed drivers and fast-acting boaters! ❤️
We have no idea how this 2-month-old found herself in such a dangerous predicament, but she was spotted darting back and forth on the bridge in a panic before jumping over the side to escape the traffic. Stephanie S. saw it happen and quickly turned her car around, dropping her daughter off to run down to the docks to try and find the terrified kitten.

The kitten was well out of reach, but thankfully, they were able to flag down nearby boaters who rushed over and immediately began attempting to fish the kitten out of the waters. Melissa L. and her husband were able to extract the little one and brought her to the dock, where she was immediately wrapped in Stephanie's daughter's sweatshirt for warmth. The family named her Splash and brought her home, where she got a nice warm bath, a hearty meal, and some much-deserved sleep on a heated blanket.

When they brought her to the WHS Door County Campus, our stunned veterinary team gave her a relatively clean bill of health considering her harrowing circumstances. Aside from an upper respiratory infection, she had no broken bones nor signs of any aspiration pneumonia. The little trouper is doing well and getting lots of rest through her treatment at the shelter; her current prognosis calls for a full recovery!

We are truly in awe of the heroes who came to Splash's rescue. Melissa and her husband thought they were just heading out for a "quick little last boat ride of the season" but soon became feline first responders, assisting Stephanie and her kids in a lifesaving race against the clock. You all are incredible and we're so lucky to have such compassionate, selfless neighbors like you in our community!🫶

Koda arrived at the Wisconsin Humane Society in terrible pain, unable to place weight on his right hind leg. He was tense and shaking, but calmed by the vet team, who wasted no time taking X-rays to assess his injuries. His leg was unfortunately beyond repair, and Koda underwent amputation surgery to give him the best chance at a happy, healthy life. ❤️‍🩹
His sunny disposition has served him well as he relearns to navigate the world with the help of his foster family, but he could use your support as he completes his recovery. 🫶
Gifts of any size can change the lives of animals like Koda, and your generosity today makes a world of difference for the animals and families served by WHS. Thank you so much for your kindness!

Our Story

The Wisconsin Humane Society is an independent non-profit working locally in the Sturgeon Bay, Green Bay, Saukville, Milwaukee, and Racine communities to help animals and the people who love them. WHS doesn't receive any general government funding, nor is WHS affiliated with any national organizations like ASPCA, HSUS, or PETA, so donors like you make a huge difference in the lives of local pets!
