What a whirlwind 2 weeks in Vegas that went by in a blur! Some things we will never forget about the 2023 NFR:

- Being locked inside the Thomas & Mack with our horses, listening to helicopters and sirens outside while a horrific shooting was occurring right next door… the crazy feeling that the place we strive all year to get to ends up being our safe place, and inside of that building, if it weren’t for our friends and family on the outside, we’d have been completely oblivious to all of the evil going on around us. We will never forget that day, those who lost their lives, and all of the first responders and everyone involved in keeping us safe.
- Million dollar Missy! I don’t set many goals but this was one I secretly set a few years ago. It’s an honor to see her name on that list of only a handful of mares that have accomplished winning $1million in their lifetime.
- Team South Dakota rocked it in the barrel racing… not so much in the grand entry! For some reason our horses didn’t like being squished into a space big enough for only one horse at the end of the line. Nicki got fired after round 3 and Lisa’s horse got fired after round 4. 😂 Thank you to the Barnes PRCA Rodeo family for letting me ride Mojo the last 7 rounds.. I did get kindof attached to the quirky little guy!
- Missy was voted Horse with the Most Heart, 3rd place Horse of the Year, and placed in 6 rounds and 6th in the average.
- The outpouring of support from so many is always almost unimaginable. So many kind words from people met at autograph signings and people at home on social media. I think I say this every year, but what an honor it was to compete with 14 amazing women- all great competitors, but mostly great people.
- The ground was amazing this year- thank you Randy Spraggins! And thank you to Anne, Heidi, Jimmie, Diann and all of the WPRA ladies for all that you do for us!

A huge thank you always to Joe and Jana for the best accommodations, and for being such great friends. Thank you to the amazing Jada and Ella- our time in Vegas would be 1,000 times more stressful if we didn’t have you 2 taking care of kids and horses!

So many thank yous… of course my family… Riley, kids, parents, in-laws, friends we consider family- you know who you are! Too many names to name. Gary Westergren- none of us would be here without Westergren Quarter Horses, where you’re only limited by your imagination. 😉 And to all my sponsors, vets, farrier- everyone who plays a part in keeping Missy and I going throughout the year, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
