Info from shelter:
Nova came to us last year as a stray. She was very overwhelmed by the shelter environment almost immediately - overstimulated, reactive towards other dogs, anxious (you know the drill). She was adopted out to a single man a few months after she was brought to us. One of our staff members' parents lived next door to the person that adopted her and was able to keep tabs on her. She was frequently kept outside in the backyard on a long line that would get tangled up, and she had limited food and water access. The man would raise his voice at her frequently. There was never any proof of physical abuse, but she would flinch to sudden movements at times. Rarely was he seen interacting with her other than to feed her. She was involved in dog fights with the neighbor dogs when they got out on a few occasions, and she did get minor injuries. Because of her living situation, the neighbors did express their concerns to him, urging him to return Nova back to the shelter if she was just too much for him to handle. Eventually, he did agree and returned Nova to us about two weeks ago citing it was for financial reasons. He sadly never filled out any surrender profile detailing how she was in the home. Since being back with us, she has returned to her anxious, overstimulated ways. We decided that this is just not a good environment for her to remain in and will only inevitably make her behaviors worse.
Nova is a spayed 5 years old girl, playful, energetic, sociable when she wants to be, and absolutely LOVES to play ball! We've found she is the most well-behaved when she walks with a ball in her mouth! She would need an animal-free home with older, respectful children who can handle her energy and need for space. She is on Trazadone to help with her anxiety here in the shelter, but otherwise she has nothing else to note medical-wise. She really is a special dog that needs time, patience, and some basic training and structure. Unfortunately, she cannot get that consistently here in our facility, and our foster base is severely lacking for dogs like her.
