Please become a fan today & support our mission to help homeless animals find their forever homes. was founded by husband and wife team, Shirley Moore and David Bernier, of Wayland, Mass. After volunteering at local shelters and seeing the detrimental effect that kennel life had on some dogs, they decided to begin fostering and to build a foster network for the dogs they took in from local and rem

ote dog pounds. They targeted many of the big city shelters and would load up their vans with many adoptable dogs, foster them, provide medical care and a holistic protocol, and put them up for adoption to approved homes. Save A Dog has grown over the years and now we have over 100 volunteers who help on an as-needed basis, and approximately 25-30 volunteers who help on a weekly basis. With over millions of pets being euthanized annually, our goal is to save as many lives as we can with the limited resources that we have. One way to maximize the number of lives we can save at one time is to bring in groups of a dozen or so dogs at one time. Puppies are thrown in dumpsters, drowned, or left in a box in the woods to die. We work with several humane societies in the south who are overwhelmed with dogs. They foster the dogs for us prior to sending them up for adoption. The dogs we receive from rural humane societies all would otherwise have been put to sleep. We also take in many dogs from local owners who can no longer care for them.

I’m Rascal, a 1-year-old, 53-pound Basenji-looking, possible Border Collie mix. I’m an active boy who loves to run and play. I like to give hugs. I get along well with other dogs, and my Southern foster mom says I’m happy all the time – my tail never stops wagging! I will make a great adventure buddy. I weigh 53 lbs. and I have a slender build, like a Sighthound.

We had a wonderful two fold visit yesterday from representatives of Troop 1 Southborough.
Henry Gostik presented us with a donation raised as part of his Eagle Scout project. For his project he built the shelter a Sensory Walkway in our Enrichment yard. To read more about it, its use and importance, please click on the relevant photograph below. We hope to use Henry’s generous donation to further expand the variety of activities in that yard.
The younger scouts are completing their Dog Care merit badge and came to better understand shelter operations and to meet some of our current dogs - Alaska, Dolly and Vibe were more than happy to spend time with them.

We will be hosting a Meet and Greet on Saturday, December 14th from 10am-noon at Wag N'Wash, 1173 Main Street, West Concord. Please check our website at www.saveadog.org a couple days before to see which dogs will be at the event. It's best to fill out the on-line application ahead of time and let us know if you will be coming on Saturday. We have lots of cute dogs and puppies waiting for their forever homes!

Our adoptable dogs got a turn sitting with Frosty too! Vibe, Vegas, Dolly, Lucy, Meg, Laura, and Alaska are all hoping to be home for the holidays.

Finn is in week 3 of his board and train and has made incredible progress! Here he’s showing off his leash walking skills, look at his engagement and focus! We’re so proud of how far he’s come but still need to find him a home! Please share him with anyone who is looking for an exceptionally smart adventure buddy.

Finn is learning loose leash walking at his board and train program! Two of our staff members went out to work with his yesterday, his leash walking skills are much improved! Finn has 2 more weeks in his training program in Southborough, MA and is available for adoption. He’s an extremely intelligent dog and is willing and eager to learn!

Achilles and Alexander are two of the best behaved young dogs to come through our shelter. They are in a foster home together and they play together, sleep together, and snuggle with their foster folks together. The curly chocolate fur on their backs speaks of Chesapeake Bay Retriever, but they are mixes, probably with a touch of Bully, we think. They each need to find a special home.
