Our two puppies (Requiem and Cantiga) that are staying with us a bit longer just got baths and nail grinds today. I wanted to show a video of how we create positive emotional responses to the nail grinder. You will see in the video that both puppies are completely relaxed and unconcerned about the grinder, me touching their paws, or their nails being done. I do start as a '2 person job' but ultimately I reduce the treats to after each paw. All my adult dogs are trained this way and I can do each dog by myself with the dog relaxed in my lap for their pedicures 😊
Our 4 remaining puppies went on a nice walk in the neighborhood today. Here is a short clip :)
The puppies go on a short walk in our neighborhood every day so that they get more and more comfortable with the outside world. Here is a cute little compilation of puppies on leash. I just love how cute they run and their flopping ears
Tonight we introduced buttons that make noises when pressed. Ultimately, we would like the puppies to press the button but training a behavior is often done in increments. For this first session, we clicked and rewarded any interaction with the buttons. Next session we will try to ask for a little more with the goal of ultimately getting the puppies to press the button to make the sound.
The video is very long for those that want to watch the puppies kinda figure it out. In many, you can see the puppies actively make the decision to chose to interact with the buttons once they figure out that that is how they earn a treat.
Puppies also encountered (and subsequently took down) our resident JA lawn ornament 🤣
RIP red Akita lawn ornament~
Another cute video of the puppies playing in the front yard. It's been a busy few days with visitors and doing table work/creating positive emotional responses to restraint and body touching for the puppies.
Puppies graduated to the outdoor play area in the front yard. Here they are exposed to cars driving by, mail/delivery people, children/adults walking by, and anything else that happens in the neighborhood.
During outside time today, Minuet gets a close up digging lesson from her momma~
Nocturne "catching the fish". The puppies all had a grand time chasing each other around and trying to steal the fish from each other
Requiem decided the ball pit was his
