Though fleas, ticks, and mosquitos are slowed down in the winter months, many areas in the United States don't get cold enough to truly kill these parasites and stop their activity! We STRONGLY encourage you to continue to administer flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, even during winter months. These products provide continuous protection and skipping doses can leave your pet vulnerable.
Fleas: Fleas are resilient creatures that can survive year-round in warm and cozy indoor environments. As the temperature drops, they will seek refuge indoors, infesting your home and tormenting your pets. Flea infestations can cause allergic reactions, intense itching, and even lead to more severe health issues.
Ticks: Ticks are active at temperatures as low as 40°F. In many areas, tick activity increases in the fall and winter as they seek hosts before entering a dormant phase. Ticks can transmit serious diseases such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and anaplasmosis, posing a significant health risks to our pets and humans.
Heartworms: While mosquitoes are less active in colder months, they don't disappear entirely. Mosquito bites cause heartworm disease; even a few warm days in the winter can provide a suitable environment for mosquitoes to thrive.
