2 months progress. Shoes were pulled and an aggressive thrush treatment program was started along with a proper mineral balanced diet. Check out that happy, healthier frog shining through 🥹

This sweet horse flinched when my hoof pick barely touched the infected frog on the left. If the pressure of my hoof pick is painful, imagine how it feels supporting the weight of the horse on abrasive sand…

One of the most common questions I get when owners inquire about glue on shoes: “does the glue destroy the hoof wall?”

No!
And unlike nails, glue on the outter hoof wall will not rip the hoof wall off if they pull a shoe before the cycle is over.

In the small number of cases I do see some damage to the hoof wall after multiple consecutive cycles, it’s due to a nutritional deficiency or pre-existing damage we’re working on growing out. *But* even in these cases the damage is minor, not destruction!

This sweet guy’s owner has put in the WORK this year and his feet are doing so much better because of it!
With the help of Vermont Blend minerals and Scoot Boots he’s on the mend from years of open heeled shoeing.

Hoof rehab with hoof boots can be tough but always oh so rewarding! Trouble shooting the fit, fighting Mother Nature, walking the pasture for the thousandth time searching for a lost boot after late night zoomies, purchasing questionable amounts of baby powder and Desitin when you don’t even have a baby 😅

But needless to say, the hard work pays off.

I am excited to once again host Ida Hammer’s “Exploring the Equine Hoof” course this year at my farm. This 1-day class is ideal for horse owners, riders, equine practitioners, and anyone that is interested in better understanding their horse’s hooves. We’ll cover basic anatomy, common pathologies, how the hoof functions and how it relates to the entire body. We’ll also discuss how diet, exercise, proper trimming or shoeing, and environment all impact the health of the hooves and the horse as a whole and how you can support them.

This is a combination of lecture and hands on learning with preserved cadaver specimens.

I was fortunate to be selected by and to receive some samples of new or un-released shoe designs.

The shoe I’m most excited to try is this new design that has the dual density base of the Easyshoe One and ergonomic tabs adhered with cyanoacrylate super glue. And who better to test on than the cobbler’s kid himself?!

🔘 Prep and application were the same as the Octo shoe design.
🔘 I love the fit and length of the shoe making it easy to fit proportionally around the COR.
🔘 The new tab design hugs the hoof perfectly and if glued correctly are almost invisible! 👀

I couldn’t get my camera up fast enough to capture this 24 year old cow cantering around the track after application! Looking forward to this shoe coming to market!

I saw a FB post recently declaring the trim doesn’t matter if you have a talented shoer shoeing your horse.

I’ve also chatted with several people over the last week about how the hoofcare industry is entirely unregulated in the U.S. There is 0 requirement for education, certification, experience, or ***continued education*** to identify yourself as a Farrier/Hoofcare Provider.

Finding a provider that continues their education and holds philosophies that align with your goals for your horse is so important. Trimming affects the whole horse and should be done so with a whole horse approach.

The trim always matters.

We’re still working to heal the central sulcus infection, but just look at the transformation in less than 10 weeks out of steel shoes 😍

Toe and heels have come back, digital cushion is re-engaging, and we’re already seeing a more natural round shape.
