What an amazing weekend for the first Mackinaw Dells 2 Advanced Glue On Skills Class hosted at The Stables at Yellow Creek!
Students spent their weekend learning advanced techniques, tips, tricks, hacks, finding the center of rotation, and how to utilize technology to track objective measurements and proportions on hoofcare cases.
Sunday started with a demo and everyone was assigned a horse for the hands on practical with a partner. Each group took before & after videos and pictures that we reviewed as a group to close out the class. Every horse walked off amazing!

I’m so proud of all these MD2 graduates and their hunger to learn more and do better for our horses. Y’all rock!!!

Thank you The Humble Hoof for hosting such an amazing and collaborative clinic!

Each clinician lecture was amazing and the breakout sessions gave us a more intimate setting to tie it all together. It was a fun, educational, and supportive weekend for horses and practitioners.

Thank you to Dr.Jenny Hagan, Ula Krzanowska (The Hoof Architect), Celeste Lazarus, and Pat Riley for the time and knowledge shared with us each day! I’m excited to get home and get my hands on the horses ❤️

What is a “balanced” foot?
Psychology has proven the human brain is attracted to symmetry. So, does our human nature cause us to aspire for symmetry in horses in the name of “balance”? I think so.
I often find myself expressing that a balanced hoof doesn’t necessarily mean a symmetrical hoof! Proving it with multiple dissections and comparisons of asymmetrical coffin bones (and pasterns).

This is one of the gazillion reasons I’m so excited to attend the The Humble Hoof Podiatry Clinic this weekend! Learning and nerding with some of the most brilliant and like minded professionals in our industry to better understand our horses and expand our approach to helping them be as comfortable and “balanced” as possible!

2 months progress. Shoes were pulled and an aggressive thrush treatment program was started along with a proper mineral balanced diet. Check out that happy, healthier frog shining through 🥹

I see it often and it’s the hoofcare hill I will die on.

This sweet horse flinched when my hoof pick barely touched the infected frog on the left. If the pressure of my hoof pick is painful, imagine how it feels supporting the weight of the horse on abrasive sand…

Heel first landings are not a gait fault.

One of the most common questions I get when owners inquire about glue on shoes: “does the glue destroy the hoof wall?”

No!
And unlike nails, glue on the outter hoof wall will not rip the hoof wall off if they pull a shoe before the cycle is over.

In the small number of cases I do see some damage to the hoof wall after multiple consecutive cycles, it’s due to a nutritional deficiency or pre-existing damage we’re working on growing out. *But* even in these cases the damage is minor, not destruction!

Caudal Failure • Pr*****ed Frog • Contracted Heels
This sweet guy’s owner has put in the WORK this year and his feet are doing so much better because of it!
With the help of Vermont Blend minerals and Scoot Boots he’s on the mend from years of open heeled shoeing.

Hoof rehab with hoof boots can be tough but always oh so rewarding! Trouble shooting the fit, fighting Mother Nature, walking the pasture for the thousandth time searching for a lost boot after late night zoomies, purchasing questionable amounts of baby powder and Desitin when you don’t even have a baby 😅

But needless to say, the hard work pays off.

(Honorable mention to the relaxation of that RF hairline 🤩)

I am excited to once again host Ida Hammer’s “Exploring the Equine Hoof” course this year at my farm. This 1-day class is ideal for horse owners, riders, equine practitioners, and anyone that is interested in better understanding their horse’s hooves. We’ll cover basic anatomy, common pathologies, how the hoof functions and how it relates to the entire body. We’ll also discuss how diet, exercise, proper trimming or shoeing, and environment all impact the health of the hooves and the horse as a whole and how you can support them.

This is a combination of lecture and hands on learning with preserved cadaver specimens.

I was fortunate to be selected by and to receive some samples of new or un-released shoe designs.

The shoe I’m most excited to try is this new design that has the dual density base of the Easyshoe One and ergonomic tabs adhered with cyanoacrylate super glue. And who better to test on than the cobbler’s kid himself?!

🔘 Prep and application were the same as the Octo shoe design.
🔘 I love the fit and length of the shoe making it easy to fit proportionally around the COR.
🔘 The new tab design hugs the hoof perfectly and if glued correctly are almost invisible! 👀

I couldn’t get my camera up fast enough to capture this 24 year old cow cantering around the track after application! Looking forward to this shoe coming to market!
