Howdy friends! 🤠

Today we our little Duke here! He is hound looking for a howling good time!

Duke is a youngster who is fully of energy and love. He love going on his walks but really loves his time in the yard. He plays a great game of fetch.

Not only is this guy playful, but he is smart as well. He knows his very well and will definitely appreciate treat for reward. 😉

Joel wanted to pop in to say hi. We know our page has been super quiet and have been lazy with the posts but we wanted to remind you there are still dogs at the Sugar Land Animal Services looking for their forever home. Joel being one of them!

Joel is a big ol’ bear of a canine pal. Don’t think his bear-y looks deter you from meeting him. He is actually a good fellow. He enjoys his leashed walks.

He does have a prey drive so likely do best in a home that is little critter free (like cats, ferrets, rabbits, etc).

He is medium energy. He enjoys his outside time in the yard and leashed walks but would love to just chill with you at home.

It’s Wednesday y’all! We are half way through this week and that’s exciting. While it will be rainy for the next few days, the shelter will still remain open so come on by.

Kelley wanted to pop in to say hello. She is still waiting for a someone to call family. She is a great girl who would do well in an active family who will provide her time in the yard playing fetch. It’s her absolute favorite game! She can go for hours.

Aside from playing a great game of fetch, she does really well on walks! When she is not being active, she does enjoy a good cuddle and enjoys being with her humans. This bench picture with her is a favorite place for her to stop to get some loving in on her walks with her volunteer friends.

Kelley does know her basic obedience like sit and down. She is quite food motivated so would likely pick up training easier than most.

One important tidbit about Kelley is that she does need to be an only dog at the moment. She does not have a high affinity for other canine pals, and likely a feline free house as well.

Happy Monday! It’s been a while since our post, but we are back. Today we have Mac here to greet you for the day!

Mac is a German Shepherd and he would do great with a person or a family. He would make a great addition to the family.

Mac knows his basic obedience and he is a sweetheart as well.

One little thing about Mac is that he does not do well with the feline friends. He is eager to chase them and would do best in a home without any feline friends in the household.

For those who are still without power and are seeking refuge from the summer heat, Fort Bend County Fairgrounds have a cooling center accepting pets.

Owners are responsible to bring their own crates for the pets and keeping them on leashes while in the facility.

As we hunker down for our first Tropical Storm/Hurrincane Beryl 🌀, please remember to keep your pets safe as well and have their supplies ready as well! Pets are family!

As Sugar Land continues to monitor Tropical Storm Beryl’s progress towards the Texas coast, it is crucial to prioritize the safety of your pets alongside your family's emergency plans. Remember, never leave your pets behind. Here are essential items to include in your emergency kit:
📌Ensure you have sturdy leashes, harnesses, or carriers to safely transport your pets.
📌Pack enough food, drinking water, bowls, and if your pet eats canned food, a manual can opener.
📌Include medications and copies of medical records in a waterproof container and microchip information up to date.
📌Prepare a pet first aid kit for any unforeseen emergencies.
📌Current photos of you with your pets to assist in case they become lost, reducing confusion and aiding identification.
📌Have information about medical conditions, behavior issues, and your veterinarian’s contact details readily available.

Cadet here!

Cadet wanted to show the public his new love, the kiddie pool. Many of the dogs are enjoying pool time and we don’t blame them, it’s hot out here!

Cadet not only enjoys his pool time, but he also enjoys playing (or collecting) balls. He is such a silly boy.

Cadet hasn’t been a huge fan of leash walking so yard time has been great for him. He also will sit so nicely for picture and requires payment in treats or love. He also will immediately give you a good paw. He is such a sweet pup.

Currently we believe he will do best as an only dog as he doesn’t seem fond of other canines.

PSA: Cat Intake and Cat Adoptions closed until further notice!

Since dogs and cats are in separate building, dog adoptions are still on!

The Sugar Land Animal Shelter has temporarily closed the cat building. We have recently had several cats test positive with panleukopenia. To keep our pets and your homes safe, we will be unable to accept new cats nor adopt out cats at this time. We hope to reopen the cat building July 11th, but stay tuned for updates. Our dog building remains open and unaffected, so come on down to see our adoptable dogs today!

It’s our Mariposa! Mariposa is beautiful girl with the most vibrant red-brown fur. Not only is she a beauty, she is sweet, friendly, and playful.

Mariposa enjoys stretching her legs in the yard and spending time with her volunteer friends. She will run and play for a bit too.

She has shown she can learn be dog friendly but it is still a work in process. It may just be finding the right personality in her playmate!

Good morning everybody! Today we have Bruno here to grace your feed.

Bruno is a sweet boy who is fairly active. He enjoys his walks and playtime in the yard. Not only does he enjoy his playtime, he does settle down for cuddles and chill time.

Bruno does know his basic command sit and he does it well. He also walks fairly well on the leash so all a great foundation to be a lifelong companion.

We are still learning more about his personality so stay tuned as he continues to settle in.

Adorable Twofer Tuesday! It’s Jackie Chan and Max.

These two are kennel mates (& likely brothers) are waiting for someone to take a chance on them! They are a great pair who enjoy the company of each other.

Jackie Chan (black & white) loves playing with his tennis balls and Max (tan & white) really prefer to play with his humans. Max (like a typical brother) will pretend he wants the ball to get on his brother Jackie Chan’s nerves.

These two keep each other entertained and a great reason why adopting dogs in pairs is a great idea. It’s a built in play pair for them!

On this New Year’s Day, we have a newbie to share with you.

She has been on the adoptable floor for 3-4 weeks now, and she is settling in. Mystic is beauty of a grey pittie mix girl.

We are still learning her personality as she settles in but she is so far just a sweetheart. She enjoys her time outside the kennel to roam the play yard, and will come up for some attention from her volunteer friends.

Manny is a young pup who is fine tuning his manners. Sometimes his puppy antics gets the best of him but he is learning.

It’s our Zelda checking in with you on this Monday. She is still patiently waiting for her holiday wish to come true. What is her wish? A forever family to call her own of course!

Zelda is a playful and active girl who would love a family who will play with her or take her on adventures.

Zelda loves her playtime with her humans and certainly will ham it up for you to get you to smile and laugh.

Zelda is dog selective so we strongly suggest slow introductions to other dogs. She can be picky on her dog friends. She use to have a faithful doggie playmate at the shelter.

Dear Santa Paws,

This is my 4th Christmas that I am asking for the one thing I really want, my own human. Anyone who has met me says that I am a sweet boy with a big heart and even bigger personality. I love blankets, treats, cuddles and anything that squeaks (even though I eat them) I am a very smart boy who is a real people pleaser. I want nothing more than to be the best boy for who ever would let me. I give the best kisses, will be your co-pilot on any car rides, I will also happily explore the great outdoors with you. With New Years' around the corner I can assist anyone wanting to be more active on their new jogging resolution. Even the Vet says I am well behaved! I don't know what else I can do to find my family but I promise you that I will continue to remain on the "Nice List". Please Santa sprinkle a little christmas magic my way.

Look into my eyes and be mesmerized by my sweetness AND come by the shelter to meet me, Sammy, or any of my adoptable friends. We have plenty of dogs and cats who are looking for their Christmas wish to come true. What would our Christmas wish be? Well, to have a forever family of our own!

Sammy is one of our long time residents who is patiently waiting for someone to sign their name on his adoption papers!

Sammy is a sweet, low key boy who just wants a family to call his own. He is doesn’t require much with his ‘old soul’ personality. He enjoys his leisurely walks or time in the yard but isn’t overly active. He loves being with his people so wherever you are, he would just follow along.
